  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) It looks like the Timo's off the hook here, soxtalk has a new whipping boy. I'm not even going to bother with the rest of your post. Timo and Blum are arguably two of the worst commodities this team has. Blum's only redeeming quality is his versatility in the infield and switch hitting abilities. Too bad he can't hit worth a s***.
  2. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Our crowd sucks tonight; it's like they are expecting us to lose. That Paulie homer should have ignited the place as hot as Paulie has been. He deserved some major love after that HR. You must have left the room when the crowd cheered until he came out for a curtain call.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Pauly gets the Sox the lead. Buerhle cannot give it up. This is exactly where Buehlre needs to shut the Angels down. Nothing shifts momentum in a game and deflates you club like a pitcher giving up a lead immediately after scoring.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Santana's line tonight: 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 hits, 2 walks, 2 k's. I guess he's not an ace either Flash? Now go and find his record since the All-Star break. Compare that with Buehrles. One poor outting for Santana is an aberration. Lately, a bad outting for Buehrle is common.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) What does Johan giving up two runs to make it 4-2 Indians have to do with this game? Well, nothing because I never connected them. I meant it more as a sarcastic comment to ask if a ace (which Buehlre is considered, no?) typically surrender leads immediately after their team scores.
  6. Hey, do aces usually give up two runs after their team scores the previous inning? Happens yesterday with Garcia and now with Buehrle. It's frustrating the hell out of me.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Cleveland is so good it's scary. KEEP HITTING SOX!! Wait, so their team didn't wet itself before Santana even threw one pitch? Around here you'd believe his hand was molded from God and there's no need to play.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) I'm thinking Kotsay will come away with the GG. Nah. Aaaron has already received all the exposure necessary.
  9. JP Howell follows the path of Douglass in dominating our club with an arsenal of junk. Hawk even pointed out he dominated our team with two mediocre pitches. You can't even suggest his command and was superb because he walked 5 batters. It's a game I place blame entirely on the offense. Howell deserves no credit. His numbers speak for themself. Next week, I expect 4 runs off this t-ball stand. It sickens me to watch these games such as tonight and wonder how the hell a pitcher such as this managed to do well against our club. I would just like to ask our hitters what made him so tough. What about a floating changeup or a straight 86 mph fastball is tough to hit?
  10. Possibly the worst aspect of Howell's game to stomach was his poor location and equally poor arsenal. I compare his pitching performance to Douglass in that if we were to face him again, I guarantee the team scores more than 4 runs. They simply put together terrible AB's.
  11. QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) :puke These are the worst pitchers to have trouble against. Someone tell me how exactly our hitters are overwhelmed by Howell? What has he shown that you can understand his dominance thus far? In my view, his ERA is perfectly reflective of his weak arsenal. Their approach tonight is TERRIBLE. I'd be embarrassed to pay money to watch this crapfest. I
  12. Not even DJ can justify this offense scuffling off Howell. I expect this offense to absolutely murder him the second/third time through the lineup. Talk about throwing meatballs--Howell is almost on line with Douglass.
  13. Well, I guess I'm wrong in suggesting tonights game would draw 25,000+. Camera shots opening the game showed a sparse crowd. Looks like we'll all have to endure attendance bulls*** for one more game.
  14. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) http://www.cthulhulives.org/CoC/movieinfo.html The HP Society has just finished shooting what will probably turn out to be the ultimate film on an HP story. The film was done in a silent film version to set it in the time the story was written in. Watch the trailer, it looks amazing! Subtitle of this thread assumes there haven't been any good HP Lovecraft adaptions. Ever watch Re-Animator or Necronomicon? I just finished watching the trailer, and must admit I'm not particularily fond of silent films--aside from Nosferatu. Blame my generation for failing to appreciate good movies without blood/guts/gore/explosions. If it does well and I hear the film was good I may consider watching it in the future, though.
  15. Media scrutiny relating to attendance is going to be worse next season if this team extends far into the playoffs. Every game under 15,000 will be a moaning experience: "Where are the people?!" "WWAAAAAAA" And yes, I'm aware some of you won't care about the attendance issues if the Sox win the World Series. Most don't care now. Personally, it bothers me that people are making this an issue in the middle of a winning streak. Does anyone become personally aggrivated when they notice blue seats in the upper deck? I couldn't care whether or not there are five people. It's just odd how two weekday home games against KC can cause such a commotion. Let out your complaints now, because we won't have to hear attendance bulls*** for the remainder of this year. Today may the final day for the media to bring up this topic.
  16. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) I guess I shouldn't be surprised that players fall for being setup by these writers. I believe this as well. They (media/players) may feel fan support is poor, especially in the midst of their winning streak, but for the next month this issue will be nonexistent. Attendance won't be an issue past tomorrow again during 2005. Hopefully this topic will no longer become an distracting issue, because I'm f***ing tired of Bruce Levine complaining about the attendance and criticizing our fans for 15 minutes following a postgame show. Hell, I'm tired of him period. Could anyone have less chemistry on the air than Dolgin and Levine have for Chicago Baseball Tonight?
  17. They'll have less to complain about after tomorrows game--which I'll guarantee is above 25,000. Remaining home games after KC are against LAA (3), CLE (3), MIN (4). All of these will be heavily attended, especially with the division winding up sometime during the 7 game homestand.
  18. Marte has officially reduced himself below Vizcaino's value with this bullpen. If he's unable to consistently retire LHH, as he's proven is true, his talent is wasted. Why has he suddenly forgetten how to pitch to lefthanders? What we witnessed ten minutes ago is disgusting. How can anyone expect him to pitch under the pressure of October? Guillen also needs to be consistent with the closing situation. Either give it to Hermanson or Jenks.
  19. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) If they started banning posters here for having a history of negativity associated with their chosen ball club, it would thin the place out a lot. And that would be unfortunate, because right now I know that however badly I take a Sox loss I can just jump on here and see somebody with their head in the oven taking it worse. Makes me feel downright sane®. We haven't won a World Series title in over 80 years--there's reason in itself to question this team down the stretch or in a possible playoff series. I realize posters are often annoyed by constant negativity, but its the nature of baseball fans. I'm content with watching their moderators run that place into the ground. They're too proud to admit mistakes, and too proud to backtrack on their rules.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) And therein lies one of the big differences between Soxtalk and WSI, we let people talk about what they want to talk about, even if not all of us like it. Personally I don't care what WSI does, and could care less if I ever see a thread about them again. I see it like they have their own thing, and we have ours. People can make their decesions about which format they like better. I can see the appeal of WSI to some, especially when you consider there are a whole lot worse places that people could go for their Sox fixes. The thing is, as long as people are being decently respectful of each other while talking about this, I don't see this as any different than any of the other conversations that we do let go on here. Contrary to what their posters may believe, posting foul language is not something which alone puts this website above WSI in my view . It's the freedom to discuss a variety of subjects (political, etc), relationship among members, openness of moderators, freedom for debate without fear and banishment, AND language which, when added together, paints a different picture between the two sites.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I use the "f" word at WSI, and here, and I've never been banned there. I've also been negative, critical, and even at times I attack Henry - although he deserves it Yet I somehow manage to do all that within their "rules". It's not that hard, really. You know its different for you and Hendry, Steff. I guarantee you could post an attendance thread without it moving or receiving a suspension. Did you read what LV posted? Justify that banning. Where in their rules does it state posting legitimate concerns about the team is grounds for banishment? Professional courtesy? What's professional about a fan-website? Often their moderators take threads and change titles around to insult members. Trolls may deserve it, but should Chisox233 (for example) know he's a "whiner?"
  22. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Here is something I posted right at the end of August, after the Texas series, on another board: I've seen posters suspended (possibly banned) for attendance threads and negative posts ranging from the future of Jeremy Reed to Guillen's in-game decision making. But never has their overhanded dictatorship extended to this. Can anyone find anything wrong with what he posted? No one can defend WSI here. I've seen members question their authority before only to be replied with "Start your own board," "pay the bills yourselves." You have to wonder who they are trying to appease with their stringent rules? The White Sox organization may prefer WSI's tamer posting atmosphere over ours, but last I checked Kenny Williams doesn't pay their bills. Does the occasional interview, radio plug, or newspaper reference somehow give them a belief WSI is a representative of the White Sox? That's just moronic. Fan websites are expected to be outlandish and highly emotional depending on the teams play. It's understandable to control inappropriate comments. It's quite another to limit political discussions to a road house or ban members without reason. This is a problem I've always had. I've already spent too much time talking about this. It seems ridiculous to be concerned about fellow fans' website, but they need to know what they're doing wrong before the entire board moves on.
  23. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Tony has made me post a thread about this We're talking about camping out the night before, or something along those lines and just wondering who's done it in the past. What were your experiences like? How early did you get there? What's the sox policy on all this? and a question no one can answer: WHEN THE f*** ARE THEY GOING TO GO ON SALE! that is all. Searching through our archives, I found one thread which discussed receiving 2003 playoff tickets the 19th of September. I have to believe, if history is any indication, we'll find out within the week. For your other questions, I've never known of anyone who's camped outside the park for White Sox tickets. Honestly, I wouldn't mind doing it myself if the weather was reasonable and no exams were scheduled the following day. If I recall correctly, tickets went on sale two years ago during a weekday--tuesday or wednesday I'd guess. Good thing about going to UIC is if I'd ever consider camping out I'd only have to travel 10 minutes to school.
  24. QUOTE(56789 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) WTF Perhaps Kanye West can blame this incident on George Bush ignoring blacks/poor and refusing to provide help. LOOK WHAT HE DROVE THEM TO! Oh wait, assistance has arrived and increases by the minute. We're not dealing with people looting to feed themselves or their families anymore. We're witnessing pure savages treating the streets of New Orleans as their own Mad Max movie. How does firing upon a convoy assist yourself in anyway? Without law, certain people can't hold themselves under control. I hope violence doesn't escalate--who knows how the word passes through the streets regarding this. When tempers are flaring and people remain homeless it's a possible combination for rioting.
