  1. Rowand advanced the runner--ONE OUT TOO LATE. Dead, you've disappointed us yet again. Uribe, need you here.
  2. Are you f***ing kidding me, Dye? I'm tired of this bulls***. What's with these weak flyouts this game? Bring this run in and save your season.
  3. This has to be the largest thread in Soxtalk history. Well over 1,300 posts.
  4. Bob Howry is entering the game. Let our fan base, which he insulted, give him hell after he (please) surrenders the game tying run. This run needs to f***ing score. HOLY f*** does this run need to score here. 0 outs, runner on second, I don't want to see Dye bunting. Let him hit.
  5. It's unbelievable they managed to claw themselves back into the game, take the lead momemtarily, than blow it. They better come back and score a few more runs before this one ends, or else it just epitomizes their collapse.
  6. Wait--is Milwood's ERA 0.00? Don't make excuses Hawk/DJ of his supposed bad luck. He, like Santana, are capable of giving up runs. In a situation such as a gift runner at second base, this runner NEEDS TO f***ING SCORE.
  7. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Not right now. I think our pitching and defense is better than their's. But they obviously have us in O. Of course, so do most other MLB teams It's amazing observing the contrast between these two clubs. They're simultaneously aggressive and patient. It's as if they have an understanding of which pitches to hit in certain counts. Rarely do they waste AB's, and even outs are hard hit. Indians came in here determined. We wet ourself thus far.
  8. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) 6 of those 10 wins were by a scant 1 run!!! We'll be lucky to bring this game within one run--win or lose.
  9. Can someone remind me how much we've owned Indians in the past? I was assured it would determine our fate this evening. 'WE'VE DONE SO WELL AGAINST THE INDIANS IN THE PAST!!!!" 3-0 Indians. /avatar.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) f***ing walks. God I hate f***ing walks. I hate how this inning has progressed. You almost expect a three-run HR. Garcia has suddenly lost his testicles and has decided not to pitch inside. Way to step up, Chief.
  11. Listening to Hawk, you'd believe it's impossible to defeat the Indians. "Good fastball hitting team with several players capable of hitting offspeed pitches." How the hell is Garcia supposed to pitch this team without fastballs? Just breaking pitches?
  12. Why run Dye in that situation? I'm sorry--this early in a game you don't run yourself out of an inning. Mismanaging like this in big games leads to losses.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) "We'd have 10,000 a lot of nights in Chicago [and] they were loud and a great 10,000, but outside of that little loyal bunch, fan support there stinks," Howry said of Sox crowds that average 17th in the league at 28,692. "It's brutal. You have a team that for the longest time had the best record in baseball and a team that's been in first place by a huge margin all year long, and you can't pull fan support?" I'd like to believe this could be used as bulletin board material. Except the White Sox probably agree with Bob Howry. You wonder what exactly led to Howry commenting on our attendance. Is that typically a question a Cleveland journalist would ask? I doubt it. Who else is as concerned about attendance as our own Chicago media? I'm willing to bet a Chicago Tribune employee covering the Indians before their arrival to Chicago decided to catch up with him and print another attendance angle. I'm so sick of hearing about it. Of ALL the questions to bring up, you have to ask a former White Sox player "How do you feel about the lack of support concerning the White Sox?" BTW, I figured it's going to be a tall task for the White Sox to clinch at home. At this point I'll be happy with a clinch anywhere, but I thought some would be interested in what it would take. 1. Scenario #1: win, at the least, 2/3 against the Indians. Bring the magic number down to seven. Sweep Minnesota. Hope Indians lose 3/4 against KC. 2. Scenario #2: Sweep Indians. Bring the magic number down to five. Win 2/4 against Minnesota. Hope Indians lose 2/4 against KC. Or, if Minnesota somehow handles us 3 losses, pray Indians lose 3/4 against the KC.
  14. Where the hell are all these Tribe fans coming from? Their fans, whether from MLB.com or another member owned board, must have been aware of Soxtalk and decided to wait five months to register. After 4 years in the gutter, their fanbase has reemerged where they left off in 2001--cocky and arrogant. Personally, I don't mind them here. If they maintain their composure and resist trolling then it should be interesting to hear comments from Indians' fans. Look at it this way: if Sox pervail, we gloat; if Sox lose this lead, we ban them. Win-win.
  15. QUOTE(SouthSide2004 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) I'm not trying to be an asshole, but can we get rid of these 'choke' pictures as avatars. I just don't see the point of them. A lack of faith among our own fans is the last thing we need. It's within the control of the White Sox to decide whether or not this avatar is removed. I hope the administrators don't force our hand because several are upset our team is wetting itself.
  16. It's funny because it's true. --Wait, I mean DAMN TROLL. /shakes fist.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) FWIW, Wild Card teams have won the World Series the past 3 years. Angels, Marlins, and the Red Sox each fought their way into the postseason by winning. Sox, on the other hand, appear on the verge of backing themselves into a Wild Card birth. Only saving grace from the White Sox if they blow this division lead is to win a World Series. Might as well create two unbelievable feats in one year.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) The worst thing about this is, IF the worst-case scenario plays out we can never trust ANY lead the Sox might ever have again. ...and I'm not even sure how much I'm kidding about that.... It's funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. Regardless of this season's outcome, every lead this team holds in September from now on will be scrutinized. We'll hear throughout the media, "White Sox maintain a 5 game lead in the division with 20 games to play. Yet, in 2005 White Sox squandered a 15 game lead...." And if Hawk is still around, he'll suggest to the viewers, "This is not like the 2005 team, DJ. Manager Steve Stone won't let this team fold under pressure like Guillen did that year."
  19. QUOTE(Toto Testosterone @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Then he followed that up with a stretch which alone should have gotten Ozzie fired: Yankees, Mariners, Rangers and Tigers, where Duque was nothing short of excellent early but allowed a total 9 "extra" runs in the final 1.2 innings (1, 1, 5, 2 respectively) - all of which came after 90 pitches... My problem with Guillen's management of the starting rotation is too often he leaves in starting pitchers--ie; Garland last night--with no regards to pitch count or how the hitters have faired as the game has progressed. Allowing major league hitters three looks at Duque is a recipe for gopherball. You have to expect-- esp against good hitting teams, they'd gradually adjust to Duque's arm angles after previous AB's. Too often he breezes through five innings then collapses once hitters make adjustments. It's almost guaranteed Hernandez throws one hanging breaking ball per AB following the 5th inning. All you have to do is sit on it. If Hernandez is concerned with prolonging his career he'd embrace a move to the bullpen. He can deceive hitters for three innings without worrying about second looks from the lineup.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) There's not a hitter on the Sox that you watch and think "wow, he made some great adjustments at the plate". Despite Santana's knack for surrendering HR's these last two seasons, against us we've hardly put together good swings.. They're too defensive at the plate. This team just isn't constructed to do well against pitchers with great changeups. Usually it's your fastball hitting teams that a changeup pitcher dominates; which fits our style.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) f*** YOU OZZIE you have got to be kidding me. If he starts next, I dont know what the f*** I am going to do. This is insane. Levine's soundclip of Guillen was unbelieveable. He actually has the audacity to suggest "we need a few days to figure this (deciding between Puque/McCarthy) out." What exactly is there to discuss besides burying Hernandez in the bullpen for blowouts? Guillen doesn't need to talk with Cooper and Williams to realize McCarthy deserves Hernandez's rotation spot. I hate this bureaucratic bulls*** which persists throughout sports when a team is in the transition of replacing a veteran with a rookie.
  22. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) What is Ozzie ball anyway? I have no idea what kind of ball he is trying to get his team to play at this point. I'll take the bashing and the heat if it comes. Or the yawns and crickets for that matter. Ozzie is a train wreck of a Major League Baseball manager. Several months ago I could have given you a definition of "Ozzieball." I would have said sacrificing yourself for advancing a runner or automatically scoring a RISP with less than 2 outs was Ozzieball. I would have said solid defense, superb pitching combined with timely hitting ultimately defined this concept. Now, it appears Guillen is done preaching his philosophy to anyone within an ear shot. Perhaps Guillen has realized his philosphy doesn't work well with a team uncapable of consistently producing runs. It was easy to accept the ideals of some magical concept termed "Ozzieball" when the club held the best record in Major League Baseball. Now, I don't give a f*** what the name is for our style of play. Whether that's "corpseball," or "smartball," this team needs to pull itself together and win this division. After which, we'll hope the pitching pulls itself together in a possible playoff series.
  23. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) I'm guessing by the reaction in this thread that we lost. Did we ever. Hernandez wet himself. Santana dominated our club. Now, Sox fans can all endure the probable Cleveland Indian victory. 3 1/2 games straight ahead!
  24. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) I wasn't able to hear any post game comments from Ozzie. Were there any? And did he address the obvious ..... El Duque is worn out and it's McCarthy's time. I've been listening to ESPN 1000's postgame show and I haven't heard any postgame comments. Unless it occured in the three minutes I changed channels across the dial. Even Guillen has no justification to allowing Hernandez another start. Regardless of incentives or past success, this team can't afford to trot out El-Puque.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) There was no point in trying. We can't beat Santana, just ask any player on the Sox. We face Minnesota one more series this season. I'll guarantee you Gardenhire shifts around his pitchers to place Santana in a matchup against us. And why not? Our offense concedes losses against him. Santana's mark against us this season is about be 5-0. But that's ok. HE'S GOOD!!!! We fail to do anything besides flailing at changeups in the dirt, anyways. I'd be more confident if our hitters would stand at the plate and allow Santana to beat himself.
