  1. Not exactly like Christmas-- for me atleast. Usually don't have to complete writing assignments and study for exams. Or attend classes which run from 3:30 to 4:45. Other than that, I must admit I'm very nervous. I'll leave it at that rather than going into 'dark cloud' talk and diminishing the feeling of optimism around this website. Learned from the last week not to be outspoken about the supposed pitfalls of your club. This first game is HUGE. Game 1 means so much more to us than Boston. Even if we were to win, not many pundits would panic with last years miraculous comeback still fresh. I doubt many Bostonians would sweat with a 0-2 deficit. However, if Boston wins tomorrow, we'll hear talk about a repeat of 2000. Pressure mounts; players press.
  2. Didn't Williams wish success for the Cubs during their 2003 playoff push? It's a good gesture, sure; but I'm always weary of anything occuring at Wrigley. Although this sure as hell doesn't make up for the article written in today's Tribune.....
  3. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Yes Greg, we've all realized your position. Several times. You've managed to talk about it for two straight days. I'm not the only one talkin' about it. Somebody had another thread about it and I posted my opinion. If you are sick of it, you should not have posted a crude remark about it saying you only kept posting it to piss people like me off. The Sox did not choke. You almost seem like you wish they did. I had to look at the choke sign for a couple weeks and it made me sick, just like my posts are making you sick. Too bad. You legitimately seem upset over this. It's just amazing to me. Ultimately, it was just a simple avatar. Do you realize this?
  4. Congratulations Just what the world needs--another lawyer. Time to abandon your conscience to uphold the integrity of the law! Well, there is some truth to the last sentence. I've always wondered what exactly is asked on these exams and how the questions are administered. Is it typical to a common test; where you can expect multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, essay questions?
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) The choke avatars were distasteful. Yes Greg, we've all realized your position. Several times. You've managed to talk about it for two straight days.
  6. I'm interested whether Joe Torre will preserve the "integrity of major league baseball" and pitch Mike Mussina, as well as put his full lineup out tomorrow. Wait, of course he won't. ESPN wants Boston in the playoffs. They'll insist it's wise of Torre to rest his starters for Tuesday. Meanwhile, Guillen better put his entire starting lineup out tomorrow against Cleveland or else criticism will continue. I really believe it's odd people are debating whether Guillen's lineup schuffle degrades baseball. Yeah, isn't there this whole steroids issue which continues to linger over MLB? It's ridiculous to insist resting starters on game 160 somehow ruins the game.
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 1, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Dump Vizcaino. What has he done more than El Duque? WAY TO GO FRANK!!! I HOPE YOU GET YOUR RING !!! There's no need to hold a pitcher such as Vizcaino on the postseason roster. If we're ahead or behind 5+ runs, and need innings eaten, we can count on Hernandez. Vizcaino may also serve this role; however, Hernandez is more useful if the worst case scenario unfolds and of our starting pitchers are removed early in a game.
  8. QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) Could anyone give a recap of what the PTI guys said about it? Both concluded we don't owe anything to New York or Boston, YET Guillen shouldn't have considered benching 6 starters in one day. Could have accomplished the same effect, according to those two, benching two each game in the series. Perpetual whining continued for a minute longer.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) If you need help, you dont deserve to be there in the first place. Red Sox had 159 games to decide their fate. Guillen doesn't need to cator to FOX, ESPN, and Bud Selig. That's what this is all about--somehow, someway, ensuring Red Sox and Yankees enter the playoffs. I can't say I dislike the Yankees. However, the possibility of a postseason without hearing anything about that Shrek looking bastard "BIG PAPPI" will be pure bliss. GO YANKEES!
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) Lets just say all the people with choke avis are eating s*** right now. That includes who ever started it and all his little followers. You'd like to believe so, but I'm rather content with my decision to post the picture. Watching several members get riled up only influenced my decision to keep it up. There was nothing to the avatar beyond the diminishing lead of the White Sox. But since people were showing their displeasure, it stood up. Heres a beer for all of you
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 04:57 AM) Doing a bit of that right now Flash? Nope. Airways are obstruction free. But if the occasion ever arrives that I am choking, I'll just remember to mimmick the avatar. That was the whole purpose--to instruct our Soxtalk population on the importance of signaling distress when choking.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) They went so indepth into the celebration that they managed to show a few butt naked players on the way to the showers. You noticed that too? I can't recall who's interview it was with--I'd like to say Cooper. But I'm watching it and in the background you notice the ass of one of the players changing. I couldn't believe they'd do that with all the people around. Didn't they see Gail Fischer walking through the locker room?
  13. I'VE ALWAYS BELIEVED THEY COULD DO IT!!!! I'm thankful this potential collapse has been averted. Now it's several days of calm before nerves are rattled again in the ALDS.
  14. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) why wasn't Rowand playing deep?? I was wondering this as well. What purpose did defending Ordonez in shallow CF serve-- Throwing out a potential run at home, from first base, in a three run lead? Rowand crapped himself again defensively in a huge spot.
  15. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) 5 outs left!!!! Some of the most dreaded words ever uttered. 5 outs seems to be an enigma with baseball teams recently.
  16. When you look at the issue of Konerko's impending departure, which I believe is almost certain, it's really an important moment for this organization. If Konerko leaves, Williams is left having to deal OF prospects-- which are several years away from contributing, because with a formidable pitching staff you can't (legitimately) hold faith in this current offense mimmicking it's "just enough to win" success. Without question, Williams has his work cut out. Fail to resign Konerko? He damn well better find a replacement. No excuses about blaming the market or reciting a "Two to Tango" bulls***. I expect more results and less whining. If our minor leaguers advanced a little quicker, or played positions besides OF, we wouldn't be put into these offseason binds year after year when important players are FA's. Instead, raw and/or developing talent will have to be delt to bring us a 1st baseman.
  17. Ah--nothing more satisfying than another postseason without the Oakland Athletics. No more moneyball schills to deal with. Jim Rome and Dan Berstein must be devastated with this news. And Hawk? Couldn't be happier. OH, BUT BEANE STILL IS A GENIUS FOR DOING MORE WITH THIS CLUB THAN ANYONE IMAGINED. THEY REBOUNDED NICELY AFTER A POOR APRIL AND MAY! 2007 WORLD CHAMPIONS!
  18. If Konerko eclipses 100RBi, 40HR--which is entirely possible, it'll just about round his base figure for negotiations to 10 million. Will Reinsdorf be willing to pay Konerko a possible 4yr/40 million dollar deal? Houston, Boston, Anaheim have already set their sights on him. It's obvious to me if you plan on resigning Konerko you complete it immediately following the playoffs. Don't let the issue linger out among the media, upper management, and Konerko himself. I'm interested in how people react if our organization fails to outbid other suitors for Konerko. Will we hear, "OH WELL, that's just the market. Paying Konerko 10 mil/yr is foolish with his degenerative hip condition...etc.."A putrid offense with Konerko, how could it possibly compensate for his departure? Williams has several choices with 1st base: resign Konerko, trade for a player capable of duplicating (if all possible) his numbers, assign Gload/Dye the 1st base position and trade/sign players to balance production lost from substituted positions (DH/RH). I was about to suggest promoting a minor leaguer--than I realized they're 'not ready.' No one is ever ready when we need them. Wouldn't it be great not to worry about a certain position because an upcoming minor leaguer was ready to fill it?
  19. Happy Birthday JR. Odd how only a certain collection of people are wishing you a happy birthday. Shows exactly what this website thinks of you.
  20. Does anyone else recall something similar to this happening in Palos Park a few years ago? Believe the title given to the woman was "Madame of Palos Park." Wonder what she's doing these days....
  21. August 1st--15 game lead on Cleveland. It should have been easy with this lead. Now, instead of a comfortable lead, they need a change of diapers following every disappointing loss. Which have been plentiful lately.
  22. How about Guillen leaving in Cotts for only ONE batter, ONE PITCH, in the 7th inning. Marte is given more respect than that.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Now we're going to hear story after story tonight about how he grew up in Chicago tonight. Good for him, he's a good kid, and we deserved to lose this game. OUR NUMBER 3 HITTER IS KILLING US! Our club had the luxury of controlling their lead tonight. With a victory, and an obvious Indians offday, there was no need for scoreboard watching. They wet themselves. Numerous scoring opportunities were squandered. As for Granderson, a UIC alumni, I enjoy watching him succeed. But I agree--you'll be hearing many quotes from him defeating the club he once watched while growing up in Blue Island.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) You probably just need to reload it. It's not "removed" by any of us. I assumed with all the arguing about 'Rally Crede'' and choking avatar a moderator may have removed mine. There must be some problem with the website hosting the original image.
