  1. QUOTE(Johnny @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) going to turn into alot of drama by years end. We've been saying this too often these last few years. He's already gone in my view. Honestly, I wouldn't be too upset with Konerko's departure if his lost production is compensated. I expect anoter addition out of Williams this offseason in either the OF or 1B.
  2. Charlotte has absolutely dominated the inside parimeter. Penetration is almost encouraged. And the crowd--could it get any quieter? I know the Bulls aren't giving them reason to cheer, but it sounds like Minute Maid after Pujols dismantled Lidge.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) I don't expect there to be. The others have human element to them. A ball 300+ feet away this/close to a foul line (that shouldn't be there in the first place IMO) isn't going to get the same attention as a call that the umps had major input in. You're missing the true scope of the home run. It led directly to a run. All the other instances of umpiring gaffes, while noticeably bad, could have been overcome in every circumstance. If any play during the playoffs was a case for instant replay it was this one.
  4. I browsed MLB.com searching for spin relating to the gold glove awards. This statement, in particular, is hilarious: "On the surface, Jeter had a modest season with the glove, his 15 errors and .979 fielding percentage ranking middle-of-the-pack. But like Varitek, the Red Sox captain, the Yankees captain's take-charge presence in the middle of New York's infield presented a compelling case for voters. " Wait--so remind me again how "take-charge" factors into a GOLD GLOVE, yet the statistics used to determine a fielders effectiveness are ignored? I mean, Hunter's take charge attitude in the clubhouse--especially with that meathead canuck Morneau--must have also warmed over the hearts of voters.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Totally disagree but what someone else stated rings true, the World Championship matters and not much else. I realize this and it still annoys me Hunter won. Can't wait until he's traded to the National League some day, where he can battle Edmonds on the "reputation alone" division of the GG.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Did anyone actually THINK Rowand was going to win a gold glove this season? Mate, I certaintly believed Rowand held a reasonable chance of winning the award. Honestly, I'm upset about this--not that Rowand lost in itself, but why give it to Hunter? Sounds like the All-Star balloting process where the marquee name alone, whether or not they deserve to be there, are voted in. '
  7. Updated follow-up posted several hours ago: http://journals.aol.com/dcsportsguy/mrirre...nt/entries/2167 Yesterday's post about a mystery man who has tested positive for steroids sparked a few items that warrant mentioning, so here's an update:
  8. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) A+++++++ experience. Me and other UIC students lined up on Harrison and went nuts. Then after they passed, almost everyone bumrushed the blue line so we could meet them at LaSalle. Greatest party ever. There was this one prick wearing nothing but Cubs garb though and taunting everyone. Where were you watching the percession? I was standing near the bus stop right outside the BSB. There was some kid wearing a Cubs hat starting s*** a few people over from where I was standing. f***ing jealous Cub fan.
  9. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) It was not 100,000 people. Tens of thousands, yes. Probably 20-30k. It certaintly appears like 100,000 when you're in the middle of a crowd which extends beyond your vision. Either way, they were rowdy and it was a good experience. This picture alone would appear to be 10,000-15,000. And this is just half the front view (which extended further back) and none of the side vantage points.
  10. I feel sorry for all of you who didn't have the opportunity to either watch the motorcade or attend the celebration on LaSalle street. It was amazing. I had an awesome vantage point of the motorcade when it rode down Harrison past UIC. One negative, although it certaintly isn't significant, is they were traveling very quickly down the street. And it's understandable with the amount of neighborhoods they had to cover. It's funny--several people standing next to me didn't even know what sport the White Sox played. The rally on LaSalle was equally impressive. From Canal to LaSalle Street you couldn't walk five feet without encountering someone wearing White Sox apparel. Once you reached LaSalle, the streets were littered with confetti clippings. When you approach the main stage off the Chicago River, it was nearly impossible to get within 200 feet of the area. It was packed beyond comprehension. I wouldn't doubt any figures if it was estimated 100,000 filled the small area. People were standing ontop of any structure which could elevate their view--including bus stops and even porter potties. Yes, some kids were sitting on, and sinking in the roof, of the porter potties while people were going inside. I couldn't hear much of the players comments until I moved forward through the crowd. Hawk stood out above everyone else, as far as projecting his voice. Ozzie had the loudest ovation of the evening once he announced his return to manage next season. Possibly the cheesiest moment was when the lead singer of Journey sung his tune at closing minutes of the celebration. I hate that f***ing guy and hope we never have to see or hear from him again. Nice firework display almost made up for Perry ruining my afternoon. When the players re-boarded their trolleys for the Cell I had a great view. Buehlre came up to the fans inciting them to yell and they began cheering wildly. Frank, AJ, Guillen, and especially Konerko were the recepients of several chants from the hordes of fans near my section. When they began chanting for Konerko to resign, Williams--who was sitting right behind him, smiled and began raising his hands for us to continue chanting. When they were close to leaving, Konerko wrote a note on paper which simply said, "THANK YOU." Class act that guy is. Although I'm exhausted from standing on my toes for nearly an hour, it was well worth it.
  11. Alright, this is awesome. The percession moves east down Harrison (past UIC) to Halsted--where the route is followed up north to La Salle. Should be plenty of open space to watch the players pass by if anyone is around the area. Here is the remainder of the route leading up to LaSalle: Double-decker buses will depart 35th Street, head east to King Drive to Cermak, west on Cermak to Ashland, North on Ashland to Harrison, east on Harrison to Halsted, north on Halsted to Jackson, east on Jackson to LaSalle, where the Parade of Champions will begin.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) If the appeals process already happened wouldn't our guy have been suspended for the series if it was one of our guys? No. Selig delayed Palmeiro's suspension until he recorded his 3000th hit. It's quite possible he followed similiar procedure to limit all the attention a positive steroid testing would have drawn from the World Series. However, if it is a member of the White Sox, and Selig knew several weeks ago, he'll catch so much critcism for allowing this person to play during the series. You can't just allow a potential steroid user to play the remainder of the playoffs, THEN set the appeal date following the World Series. This rumor will bug for me awhile. And to answer a post of Fathom's earlier, if anyone from our outfield does test positive I want their ass gone.
  13. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Well the odds are in our favor not just in that its 1 in 4 without looking at the players, but you figure that there is a better than average chance that this rumor will not pan out because it seems more often than not that rumors are false. I wouldn't spend a whole heck of a lot of time thinking or worrying about this now. Why would Carol lie about his placement on an appeals committee? It wouldn't look too good of him to mention this rumor without any merit. Odd how the person responsible for interviewing Carol appeared rather enthusiastic about the possibility of a White Sox testing positive. Combine a potential steroid user with the fortunate calls our team capitalized on, our World Series would basically be tainted. I realize many here wouldn't care, but I'd like for people to give our club due respect.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Could you please explain to me why? It's not like their got busted with it in their system during the playoffs. As b>w said, you're assuming people will give any outfielder from our team the benefit of doubt. Do people believe Palmiero only used steroids after his congressional testimony?
  15. This scares me to death. I would have to believe our players would have enough sense not to inject themselves with anabolic steriods. Or for that matter, consume any substance which could taint their urine samples.
  16. Anyone know of the actual parade route the White Sox will take from US Cellular to downtown?
  17. QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) f*** Moneyball. It's all about Kennyball. He said he wasnt that smart yesterday. Well then the only smarter man i know of is Einstein. Ah, thanks for bringing up Moneyball. Now that I've celebtrated our victory, I can criticize Beane. 'Kennyball' exceeds 'Moneyball' in it's most important value--post season success. Perhaps Michael Lewis may want to write a sequel detailing our success. POSTSEASON SERIES VICTORIES BY WILLIAMS: 3 POSTSEASON SERIES VICTORIES BY BEANE: 0.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Buck was waiting to crucify him if he got the call wrong. Yeah, he was. Atleast he was willing to administer praise to the umpire instead of watching the play from several different angles. BTW, update your signature.
  19. FIREWORKS ARE ABRUPTING OVER THE SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO. f***ING UNBELIEVABLE!!! Holy s***. It's just amazing when you spend all your life waiting for the team to even MAKE the playoffs. Beyond that, you never imagine the team you root for, especially our White Sox, would win a World Series.
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) I want those posters on here now who last night kept saying we'd win. I don't feel the W tonight. I don't either. Even with Harris' leadoff single. Lidge has to realize this team absolutely cannot touch a good slider low/away. Continue to throw that, and Harris will be stranded.
  21. QUOTE(Elcaballo45 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) You wanna go ahead and direct that statement at the rest of the team. Backe has dominated all night, regardless of who it is. Well, with Uribe in particular, you think he'd realize after the second slider that was all Backe would be offering. Uribe made absolutely no effort to crowd the plate and have a better swing at the slider he's continually thrown low/away.
  22. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Yah. Juan can't hit that pitch. Just too good for him. If you're a pitcher with a slider, why not just throw it every-single time against Uribe? He's shown absolutely no ability to hit it. Or even recognize it. He just made his own weakness obvious to the world tonight.
  23. THIS IS f***ING RIDICULOUS. How did Uribe get to the big leagues without being able to hit a slider. Jesus, this is becomming embarrassing now. This was our opportunity.
  24. That was the farthest hit ball Uribe will lay into against Backe.
  25. Another baserunning mistake by Rowand. This f***ing idiot, I swear. Didn't even know how many outs there was.
