  1. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Look at the current starters. Only Buehrle and McCarthy were drafted by the Sox. You can always make moves to improve your minor league system. Removing Haigwood and Gonzalez from our system hurts our pitching status years from now. Confounding problems is within the next two years, nearly our entire rotation will be eligible for FA. Neither may have been pitching in 07 or 08, but by that time either they're regressing or on the brink of promotion. At 2008, either our payroll should be hovering around 95 million or there better be several prospects (both pitching and hitting) ready to contribute. It's going to become difficult finding the funds to keep our rotation entact. Honestly, I don't mind Thome--but I'm weary of our club handing over these particular prospects.
  2. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Honorable mention goes to 'One More Night' by Phil Collins. This song was playing the first time I ever felt boob. It doesn't qualify as one of my favorite love songs, but I somehow felt it deserved to be here...Josette Skorski from 7th grade..this ones for you!!! I have a similar honorable mention-- 'I Can Dream About You,' by whomever. It's one of those songs I don't necessarily enjoy, but whenever I hear it (which is seldom) I immediately think back to one of my old girlfriends who absolutely loved the movie, 'Streets of Fire.' The song is featured within that piece of s***. It's just one of those songs which you consider a soundtrack to the events of your life. Personal favorite: -'Unchained melody,' Righteous Brothers
  3. I can't vouch for its health--obviously it was well enough to live 14 years, but didn't it appear to be in extreme agony? Tumor (I assume) near the owners left hand, cataracts, loss of fur and teeth--thankfully it doesn't have to be an exhibit anymore.
  4. Where's the supposed information detailing Cruise's anger? More than insulting his psuedo-religion, I'd be willing to bet South Park's insinuation of Cruise "not coming out of the closet" pushed him further. Eh, but what is he going to do about it? My ass he'll sue. He pussed out after someone squirted him with a water-gun!

    "My Humps"

Black Eyed Peas are probably thinking to themselves, "damn--anything we put out people will buy. We created this song in 5 minutes!" The reason "My Humps" is successful is the catchy hook. We all know there's absolutely no substance to the lyrics--but then again, we all recognize the tune. Mission accomplished, I suppose. Get people talking about the song, good or bad, and the more recognition BEP receives.
  6. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Still no one has explained what the deal with Pentangeli was in Godfather 2. I could never figure out that scene in the bar. I gotta watch it again. What bar scene is this, and what happened which you don't understand? Your description is so obsure.
  7. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) No, Part III sufffers from major ball-suckage. Every time I try to tell you guys it stinks, and I think I'm finally out. . . THEY KEEP PULLING ME BACK IN!! It's a poor film in comparison to its predecessors. Not bad in itself. I didn't mean to include III among several of the greatest films of modern cinema. Didn't structure my sentence well. I hope no one left for the video store expecting III to be as good as the first two. Anyone doing this will likely get the message when the first two aren't available and several copies remain behind III.
  8. Both are excellent films. No wonder Saddam Hussein was a huge fan. Any movie starring Pacino where he isn't endlessly screaming is a plus. Seriously, though--find any Pacino film where he doesn't devote 5 minutes to screaming at the top of his lungs. You'll have one or two. Until last year, I had never seen Godfather 1 or 2 in their entirety. Whenever AMC or SpikeTV would broadcast the movies I'd always tune in near the endings of both films. I recall feeling sorry for Vito Corleone stabbing the old man in his home town--and Michael disposing of you-know-who in the sequel. After viewing the films, and thus understanding the proper context of both events, they were understable. If anyone has yet to watch all three (yes, even three) you're missing out on the several of the greatest films of modern cinema.
  9. Before opening this thread, I assumed there didn't exist ONE real element to Laguna Beach. Watching the show on several occasions, it appeared no different than OC outside of the real relationships the actors/actresses may have had. Staged drama exceeded reality in my view. With a show this popular in a region that snooty, why don't people purposely disrupt the set or interact with the characters when they observe them? I assume they completely cordon off sections of the beach/town/wherever the characters stroll through. Otherwise, I'd fly out and kick the s*** out of the male characters for being pussies and take their women. They're from Laguna Beach--no one taught them how to fight.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines We can move this to the Free Agent Resource thread later. I wouldn't mind Eyre in Marte's departure, but I honestly doubt we'll sign him. When his agent indicates he's "looking out for Scott's best interets," we know he really isn't looking beyond the most lucrative deal for his client. If Boston and New York are involved--as the article indicates--you can bet the Cubs will have to overpay. Let them. Then while they're at it, give Furcal and Giles 10-12 million for 4 years each. It will be fun when Prior, Zambrano, Lee, Barrett begin commanding high salaries. Although I love how the Tribune suggests Cubs stand a better chance of obtaining Eyre because of his 'familiarity' with the National League. Yeah, I'd don't believe familiarity is exactly a trait which relievers embrace. Ask Shingo, wherever he is.
  11. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) And I don't know the policy at your schools, but for classes that fill up quickly, I just see the professor on the first day of class with an ADD CLASS form in hand. I've never had trouble getting a signature. Where did you pick up Add Class forms for your school? Was there a general form you given, or did you have to ask the specific department (of the class you registered) for permission? I'm guessing these policies are same across campuses.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Hendry doesn't give up talent, he'll end up fleecing the Marlins for Pierre, it's what he does. Hendry's trademark is locating trading partners who, for whatever reason, are desperate to unload talent--mostly due to impending salary hikes. If I'm Florida--especially Florida--I'm being absolutely sure to squeeze as much out of Hendry as humanly possible. Hendry too has to remain cautious not to give up another raw talent, such as Dontrelle Willis.
  13. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) I f***ing hate class registration with every inch of my being. That is all. Yeah--I absolutely love attempting to register for a required class only to find it completely full. And what happens when I ignore the trap and move onto another course? Can't do anything-- because the prerequisite of a higher level class always happens to be the course I intially couldn't register for. Oh, and cordinating class schedules to avoid conflicts is equally as frustrating. It's as if every damn class at school is 1-1:50 MWF or 11-12:15 TR.
  14. Denying the approval of a morning after pill must reach beyond ethtical issues--right? Is the Bush Administration afraid more women will engage in unprotected sex because of the pill? Just seems like a trivial reason for Congress to establish clout within a company intended to serve the general public.
  15. Did anyone happen to catch the commericals for, the actual showing of, or 'Best Week Ever's' recap of this week's Trading Spouses? If you haven't, this one enormous woman is a God-fearing Chrisitian who fills the hour-long segment with hilarious rants criticizing "non-believers." It's worth watching BWE, or better yet, finding internet links. I found one link, but I have a problem uploading it's content. Not sure what it's showing. http://www.break.com/articles/tradingspouses.html "I'm a God WARRIOR!!!!" EDIT: This link works. http://video.download.com/3800-11166_53-7673.html
  16. Several points. One--regardless of his mental health or physical condition, he'll never be charged with engaging in unlawful sexual activity. I doubt Florida's legal review board allows their state prosecutors to formally press charges. They'll move him to a nursing home before he'll ever steps foot in a prison. This kid, however, will never live this down among his peers. Three seperate encounters the 16 year old had with the old man? Something odd about that.
  17. Several of these movie quotes are only my favorite because I use them frequently--while intoxicated. 1. "I'll be your huckleberry," Tombstone 2. "Hard drinkers--let's drink hard," From Dusk Till Dawn. 3. "I think I'm gonna stick a knife in his heart, Then I'm gonna send him back to ireland in a body bag." --He's from Scotland.-- "Well, tell that stupid mick he just made my list of things to do today. I'm gonna pop a cap in his ass," Rushmore. 4. Alonzo Harris: "Aww, you motherf***ers. Okay. Alright. I'm putting cases on all you b****es. Huh. You think you can do this s***... Jake. You think you can do this to me? You motherf***ers will be playing basketball in Pelican Bay when I get finished with you. Shoe program, n****. 23 hour lockdown. I'm the man up in this piece. You'll never see the light of... who the f*** do you think you're f***ing with? I'm the police, I run s*** around here. You just live here. Yeah, that's right, you better walk away. Go on and walk away... 'cause I'm gonna' burn this motherf***er down. King Kong ain't got s*** on me. That's right, that's right. s***, I don't, f***. I'm winning anyway, I'm winning... I'm winning any motherf***ing way. I can't lose. Yeah, you can shoot me, but you can't kill me," Training Day. 5. "Now go home and get your f***ing shinebox!" Goodfellas
  18. I believe we're all missing the key issue here-- How the hell do you pronounce her name? Is NG "nug?"
  19. There should be absolutely no doubt whether Guillen wins Manager of the Year tomorrow. ABSOLUTELY none. Whether you believe Wegde deserved the award due to the Indians late season resurgence is irrelevant. If anything, the White Sox rebounding from their supposed collapse should only reinforce Guillen's grasp on the award. Even before our postseason surge, when votes were likely cast, Guillen deserved recognition. I understand we won the World Series--and that's ultimately all that matters. But Williams missing his well-deserved acolades disappointed me. If Guillen loses, I'll be convinced a contingent of teams were so upset with our success they combined efforts to vote against us. And on that issue--does anyone know if there's any method of disclosing which teams voted for which person? I wouldn't be shocked if Anaheim, Boston, Minnesota, Cleveland, Detroit, Cubs, Houston, Kansas City, Oakland alone voted against Williams.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) She needs a nose job or something. HA, I expected someone to mention this immediately after the photo was posted. Her nose is almost similar to Jennifer Grey's beak. Now, I'm a guy who can appreciate women without perfect facial features; but it's obvious her nose is WAY out of proportion.
  21. This would have been an ideal opportunity to ask Israel4ever his thoughts on the movie's depiction of the kidnapping, and eventual death, of a dozen Israel atheletes in 1972. Too bad--HE GONE. I've read discriptions of the film, in addition to viewing the trailer, which seemingly portray the Mossad agents as terrorists rather than individuals recruited to enforce retribution. I understand the message Spielberg is attempting to illustrate--Israeli's are hunting down Palentianians terrorists while themselves using terrorist tactics. I just wonder how our members feel about this? You know any direction Spielberg took he was bound to face criticism. Either the Israeli's would complain, or worse, the Palestinians (perhaps Arab's in general) were going to cite the usual USA creating Zionist propoganda rhetoric. I just hope this movie doesn't turn into a biodrama which largely ignores the Palestinians role. I watched the "Sword of Gideon" (an excellent made-for-TV movie which Munich will mirror) several years ago and believed they did well balancing both Israeli/Palestinian angles. I have no preference for either group of people in the conflict--both have committed their share of injustices and both appear unwilling to compromise. In this instance, I have no sympathy for the numerous Black September members murdered. The lone surviving member should be lucky he's still alive today.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/11/05...iots/index.html Rioting continues unabated for the 9th straight night. How long until France surrenders? This is why jokes about their lack of military prowless continue.
  23. I don't understand how you (Addy) can possibly empathize with multi-millionaire artists. Until the moment arrives when live shows--which compile a large percentage of an artists revenues--are no longer sold out, I won't give a second thought to the illegal distribution of music. And many will agree with me--artists complaining about losing several million, whereas still earning a sizable paycheck, is similiar to Sprewell claiming 10+ million can barely provide for his family.

    Jarhead?

Remember that episode of Seinfield where George and Jerry attempt to sell NBC their pilot for a show about nothing? Well, this movie follows a similar route. More than a film which showcases battle scenes, Jarhead highlights the anticipation of Marines awaiting war. If you're intending to view this movie with Full Metal Jacket, or even Three Kings in mind, you'll be sorely dissapointed.
