  1. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 29, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) what is this? AJ throwing out a would-be base stealer. looks like things might be starting to turn around...then again, Richard Hidalgo is not exactly a burner. Don't forget he's catching perhaps two of the slowest deliveries in the league with Contreras and Hernandez.
  2. YES, our 4th run has crossed the plate!!11!!! Now the deficit is only 4 runs. Which might as well be 10 runs for this anemic offense.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) I love nerds... http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/te...les_050527.html I have yet to browse the website, but I suppose if this were posted on FARK if would be accompanied by an OBVIOUS tag. If a wormhole/Time Machine were ever created, what person would be brave enough to subject themself to the experiment? Again, if this were on FARK someone would have posted a picture from Contact or Donnie Darko about now. How exactly do you determine whether or not the time travel occupant travels one minute in the past, or one billion years, when the machine exceeds the speed of light? Far as worm holes, it's apparent their unreliable because there's no certaintly where you may end up, or how you expect on returning. Could you even summon a duplicate worm hole to draw conclusive results of its receiving end? Get on the case Hawkings!
  4. Disappointing pitching performance from McCarthy. For once, I'd like to witness a minor league prospect perform immediately. It looks terrible on our organization when our top rated pitcher surrenders 4 HR/6ER. For all the hype he's received, you'd think he'd string together two quality outtings. I'm not giving up on him, but he does need further work developing his changeup. While his curveball is great, a straight 90mph fastball won't fool many big league hitters if there's no offspeed pitch to offset it.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 26, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) Zoom, yes, he could have taken one more shot. But even then, he still wouldn't have been able to resign them, win or lose. Object of baseball is to win championships, not secure starting rotations in 2010. Mulder/Hudson are, right now, where Beane is (likely) projecting Haren/Blanton to peak several seasons from now. But Mulder/Hudson have already established themselves as outstanding pitchers. Nothing is guaranteed with Haren/Blanton, regardless of meaningless projections. Why not take one more shot with two pitchers with proven success in the major leagues instead of waiting half a decade for prospects to blossum? It's such a ridiculously simple concept. I guarantee Oakland fans would tolerate Mulder/Hudson leaving without significant compensation if it brought them a champsionship. -Worst Case Scenario #1: Oakland reaches the playoffs, loses (again), and Beane fails to receive compensation for Hudson. While their postseason choking is inevitable, it's difficult to be in this position without 2/3 of the "Big Three.". Funny how countless publications installed faith in Beane to produce a winning product this year. I'll have fun at the end of this season bumping threads I saved-- namely Skip Bayless' slurpfest of Beane. Beane is in a win-win situation. If Oakland were to exceed expectations; playoff appearance or 85+ win season, Beane's genius label is reestablished. Oakland falters, it's "Well, injuries and inexperience effected this team. Although their 2007 World Series Championship is still guaranteed." -Worst Case Scenario #2: Mulder and Hudson are injured simulateneously; thus receiving no interest from competing clubs. Apparently, expecting return product from your aces exceeds the needs of winning in 2005. That's fine. I'm having fun watching Oakland lose and their fans moaning and crying.
  6. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 25, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) b****ing? please dont tell me you thought this was even a passably well announced ball game. they are both nice guys. as announcers.... eeh. No, I'm not debating whether or not the game was well announced. Until the bottom of the 9th inning, I had been listening to ESPN 1000 returning from work. I was merely asking Hideaway to explain why DJ and Don had "reached a new low." For anyone not watching the broadcast, as was my situation, they would have had no idea.
  7. Would you mind explaining what you're b****ing about.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 25, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) That said, it's easy to kick a guy when he's down. Jason Kendall is hitting .233, Eric Chavez is hitting .224, and a couple of their key parts have been DL'ed (Swish and Dotel and Crosby). I'm not saying I expect them to win their next twenty and take over the division, but they certainly haven't "clicked" at all this year. You're absolutely right-- it's easy (and quite fun) to kick Oakland while they're down. Witnessing Fats*** Blanton disgracing the Oakland organization was tremendous. My MLB Extra package covers its outlandish costs whenever I witness another Oakland meltdown. Interesting article printed last week: http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/s.../blog/05_17_05/
  9. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 24, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Per ESPN Radio 1000's Mac, Jurko, and Harry: Whispers of a deal surrounding Joe Crede and Brandon McCarthy for Eric Chavez have been revisited. Perhaps this has actually picked up a little steam as Kenny may or may not have been in contact with A's GM Billy "I can do anything with three twenty-game winners" Beane. Only purpose this trade scenario serves is for discussion on an internet message board. I would love to hear the justification Williams would spew forth IF he were to include McCarthy in a package for Chavez. "Prospects are prospects. After 85 years of futility, winning now is our organizations highest priority." Then when McCarthy fills out his 6'7 frame, throws 94+ mph, and solidifies the Oakland starting rotation, we'll be scowling Beane for ripping Williams off. Again.
  10. I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow's article. Monumental bullpen collapses coupled with a Sox victory should be entertaining reading.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) Well he was going to lose Hudson next year anyways.... So? No one can convince Oakland would have faired worse if Hudson/Mulder were still pitching for Team Beane. Why not hold onto Hudson/Mulder, and if the team falters midseason trade for necessary pieces? But of course, most supported this trade because he is Billy Beane. Apparently, trades involving predominamtly unproven players exceeds the need of assembling a contending club with proven winners. All this, of course, is configured before the team took the field.GENIUS! And it's showing this season!
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 20, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) George Offman typically behind once again. Difference is Offman sounded confident McCarthy was boarding a plane and heading to Chicago.
  13. George Offman: Minor League sources have indicated Brandon McCarthy's scratched start may be due to his eventual callup Sunday. He is definitely boarding a flight and heading to Chicago.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 20, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Cheat says it's happening, and Cheat knows all. Then let's sticky this thread, change the title, and proclaim ourselves the first source to report the news.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Wow, this is finally happening. Let's go get em Brandon . It is? No mention on the radio, WSI, or whitesox.com.
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 20, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) Well, this begs the question: Aren't you worried about the gaping fifth starter hole of the past? Lord knows I am. Perhaps I'm just a bit gun shy, but the thought of having a rookie in the fifth starters spot for an extended period of time really knocks us down a peg or two. If Duque decides to fight injuries from this point forward, and we have to deal with an inconstant Garcia and Contreras we're in deep. Not good. Not good at all. ...not to mention the arbitration clock is now a' rollin' on Mr. McCarthy. Be careful what you wish for folks. Since we're being hypothetic here: Foremost, before any discussion of McCarthy's availability, Guillen should shoulder blame if Hernandez is injured. Several starts this season Hernandez's pitch count has exceeded 115 pitches. I've questioned these decisions before due to our bullpen depth. His arm is more important in September/October than April Depending on our situation Sunday, and Hernandez true health status, perhaps Guillen can start Cotts. Honestly, the possibility of McCarthy's promotion doesn't bother me. Whether he's rocked or pitches a gem, his confidence should remain the same. If not, how can one adopt to life in the majors? Whether his line is 7IP, 0ER, 8K's or 1.3 IP, 6ER, 1K, McCarthy must know this is his first start. The organization believes in him. Anyways, if he can't adapt to pitching now--midseason, how will he fare in the playoff atmospher of late season baseball? Arbirtation concerns shouldn't matter to an organization with a payroll such as ours. If Hernandez misses one start, no need to promote McCarthy. If Hernandez misses an extended period of time, our best choice is for Brandon to go north.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 20, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) Yeah f***ing sportsnight, we want to relive the memories, not watch dan jiggets rambling! This game won't only last 5 more minutes, so maybe this will go later than 5?? How can you not appreciate Dan Jiggets analyzing our newly acquired second baseman "Tadahici Aguda?"
  18. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 20, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Gutierrez is gonna hit a grand slam soon. Hopefully they show another Sox memory next. Chicago Tribune Live begins at 5:00. After this moment we're done. If I had a choice of watching a certain moment between Cubs/Sox it would be Konerko's 2 HR day off Wood. Too bad this "best of" feature won't continue.
  19. /hits record on VCR If I recall his HR, which I haven't seen in 4 years, Lee hits Duncan's 3-2 pitch off his shoes and golfs it out of Comiskey. Great moment in this intercity rivalry.
  20. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ May 19, 2005 -> 07:38 AM) On the A's fan board it mention that Rosenthal reported that the Sox are talking trade with Oakland about Eric Chavez for a Joe Crede and a top minor leaguer.. As anyone heard about this... Haven't heard any news related to this rumor. But if Beane is truly conjuring up trade proposals with Williams, and I'm Kenny, I'd be very careful. Apparently, the Overlord of baseball transactions can do no wrong. No need to rehash concepts detailed in Moneyball. I'll also feel its necessary to take advantage of this thread to laugh at Oakland's mediocrity. Beane supporters, nothing should warm your hearts more than this wonderfully insightful article written several days ago in the Boston Globe. Enjoy. http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/s.../blog/05_17_05/
  21. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) Again I can't stress this enough... WHO THE f*** CARES? You people are amuzing, f*** espn whenever they say anything bad about the sox.. Then worship the f***ing ESPN when they say something good.. Make up ur minds.. and f*** ESPN, we are never going to be the Yankees/red Sox/Cubs in their eyes and who cares I don't.. I watch the games (when I can) and go on my merry way. Again, I can't stress this enough.... Quit whining about this irrevelevant topic. Why can't people post articles they find worthy of discussion on this site. I wish the problems of the real world were as important as whether or not someone decides to post a thread dedicated to an ESPN analyst flip-flopping.
  22. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 16, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) Not one. Not a couple. It's been a few, and that's unacceptable for the less-difficult position on the field. Half of Dye's errors were due to his own laziness. Failing to drop your mit far enough down to catch a groundball in the outfield is unacceptable. I'm willing to accept Everett in the outfield as long as he's producing offensively. If his horrid defense is costing runs, Ozzie may want to consider platooning Dye/Everett against LH/RH pitchers.
  23. I'll never admit Moronotti is right about any topic. EVER. Is there a correlation between attendance and winning baseball? No, I suppose he rather write about our struggling attendance then discuss winning baseball. I can't stand comparisons to the Cubs on this regurgitated subject. It goes beyond simple fan devotion to their favorite ballclub. Wrigley Field, in addition to its serene setting, is an outdoor beer-garden attracting affluent adults with disposable incomes. Location, WGN, Harey Caray, Sammy Sosa, 2003 NLCS have all combined themselves into a national phenemenom. Quit the baseless comparisons, Moron.
  24. What's the excuse today, gentleman? Did Ozzie not properly define his role this evening? Was the lapse in defense responsible?
  25. You can't blame Cotts for his outting tonight. Because.....well...you see....IT"S NOT HIS FAULT. Ozzie misused him!
