The guy pitched 28 games for the Cubs during the regular season and was flat out dominant. Without him, worse relievers get bumped up a spot and also accumulate more total innings. Nobody knows how that would have shaken out. Sure, Aroldis didn't have the best postseason. His numbers were by no means bad in the postseason, though. He pitched 15 2/3 innings, so he was getting worked by the Cubs. We also know how important good bullpens are in today's MLB. Look at how hard the Indians rode Andrew Miller. Trading for one of the most dominant relievers in the game was a no brainer for the Cubs.
