Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 4m Micah Johnson, your big league future is coming very soon
-
I hope we get a player instead of cash lol

Montas is eligible for the rule 5 draft? I think Bassitt, Wilkins and Smith would get picked if not protected by the 40 man.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Good day with Guererro and Danish starting together. Zack Stewart is starting against Charlotte and he'll probably get shelled. And Martinez for Great Falls. I can't believe Stewart is still in baseball.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) To try and put out the fire before it starts, Flowers' current BABIP of .353 isn't entirely unreasonable - 72.8% of the balls he's putting in play right now are line drives or ground balls, which are your highest percentage of balls in play that will result in base hits. It may be a little high, but it's not outrageous. I also think there's probably some room for organic growth within his line - his power numbers are down this year and while some of that may be conscious effort, some of it could also improve as he continues to get more experience. He does have an fWAR of 1.2 this year (for what that's worth to people). Among catchers with 350 plate appearances, that number puts him right in line with offseason darlings Jason Castro (1.5 fWAR), Brian McCann (1.2), and Dioner Navarro (1.1), as well as Alex Avila (1.5). Frankly, I have no problem with what Tyler has done this year. There are better catchers, but I agree with Hahn that he could absolutely be the starting catcher on a winning team. (this also marks the 2nd straight season I was completely wrong about Flowers) I agree with everything you have said. Like I said yesterday, if Flowers can maintain a BA between 240-250 with 10+ HRs and 50+ RBIs out of the 9 hole with his familiarity with the pitching staff, I'll take it. With this, there is no point of wasting valuable assets to acquire a catcher that Flowers has had equally a decent year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) https://twitter.com/SouthSideSox/status/502261944708259841 LOL I love Moises. I hope he sticks. -
If Basto can just be an average fielder, he can be a legit prospect. He's only 20 in high A and has pretty good power and could hit for average.

Barnette got shelled in his 2nd appearance for Charlotte. 8 ER in 1.2IP

Hahn- Deal could happen before Aug 31

Garrett Richards was just carted off in the Angels game. Was covering first and his left knee buckled I believe. It looked real bad, Angels are saying patella right now but nothing more. They could be looking for a starter now. -
Peter 2-3 with 2 doubles. Average back up to 277

Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 11m Hahn on Flowers: "I would certainly say that he can be an everyday catcher on a winning team" Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 10m Hahn praised Flowers defense and handling of the pitching staff above all I agree with this. If he can manage to hit 240-250 with 10+ HRs with what Hahn said, I don't mind. This will let Hahn address the bullpen, another starter and a lefty bat instead of wasting assets on a catcher. -

Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 11m White Sox expect 5-8 players to be Sept. call-ups. Carlos Rodon Josh Phegley Taylor Thompson Carlos Sanchez Marcus Semien Andre Rienzo Matt Davidson Andy Wilkins Jared Mitchell Those are my guesses. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) Wayne Randazzo @WayneRandazzo 2m Hahn: Rodon responded to the challenge last night. Decision to call him up in September will be based strictly on his development. #WhiteSox Can't wait to see him September 1st.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) Scot Gregor @scotgregor 2m White Sox GM Rick Hahn: AAA Charlotte 2B Micah Johnson ( hamstring) done for season He's had a successful season even though it looks like injuries plagued him all year. That should tell us something. Does he need to be placed on the 40 man this next year?

Nathaniel Stoltz @stoltz_baseball · 10m Have a long thing about him coming up. Rotation ceiling. RT @wildabeastt Tyler Danish? Reliever or rotation ceiling?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 47m More White Sox minors news: The Sox have requested waivers for the purpose of granting the unconditional release of LHP Charlie Leesman. Good. He was nothing much.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) Dunn. Keppinger and Downs, to a lesser extent. Swisher. Javy. Edwin Jackson. Manny Ramirez. Liriano, Myers and Youkilis. Griffey, Jr. Although none of the players that KW gave up for these guys have amounted to anything.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) I like it, though it is obviously far-fetched. Here it is: Trade Viciedo, Beck, Hawkins and Sanchez for Jay Bruce and Sean Marshall. Why would the Reds make that trade? Sign relievers Andrew Miller and Luke Gregorson. That's going to cost $35-40M. 3 years at $6M per for Miller; 4 years at $5M per for Gregorson Trade Danks to anyone that will take on most of his contract. Don't see that happening. Sign Justin Masterson to a one year prove it again contract. Would love this, although I hope the SOX at least dabble with Shields. Sign Michael Cuddyer to a 2 year contract. DH him and let him play OF for when someone needs a rest. Like the idea, but Cuddyer's days in the OF are over. Sign Emilio Bonifacio to play a utility role. Love it. They reportedly made Latos available this trade deadline. Phillips is on the wrong side of 30, Votto although great, is very injury prone, Bailey and Latos are both injury prone also and Latos is getting expensive. I would love to get Shields, but I obviously went another route focusing on the bullpen with 2 of the better arms on the market and a starting pitcher in Masterson that can net you a good return if he pitches well, or extend if you feel like he can be part of the future. He's a sinker baller who's experienced in the AL central. Cuddyer would strictly be DH and could even rest Abreu at first too. Every contending team needs a guy like Bonifacio in my opinion.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) I really think the majority of additions to the roster next season come from the trade market. I expect Alexei will be made available for the right return in the winter meetings and that Hahn will make a run at Tomas and probably at Pedro Alvarez as an alternative to re-signing Dunn. I think Alexei could go for a pretty good return as the Red Sox and Yankees are both likely to be in the bidding along with the Dodgers if they feel that Hanley either won't sign or has a future at 3B. If Red Sox want Alexei, I'm asking for Boegarts.
