8/27 Games
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) I think you just gave a great reason why he SHOULD be traded: his value is super high. He will be 33 come the start of the 2015 season and has a great contract with an option for $10 million each year over the next two seasons. Right now he is the 3rd most valuable SS in the league. The main question is do the Sox think they can compete in 2015 and 2016, thus making more sense to keep your star SS. But that may not be the best move for the future, partially because I don't think the Sox will be a playoff-caliber team next year. It's a tough situation. I do know if Alexei was on the Cubs, he would be traded. We'll see if Rick dangles him this offseason. Oh I completely agree on why he should be traded, but I get the feeling that Hahn thinks this team can compete next year with the right pieces acquired in the off season. If that doesn't happen in the winter, then I could see around spring training that they could pull a trigger on a trade for Alexei if he were to be dealt.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) I noticed today that Jason Parks took a job with the Cubs scouting department. He did always seem to follow their minors pretty closely. Yeah my friend texted me that last night. He is always on the Cubs nuts. Fits him well.

8/27 Games
QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) I don't understand why it has to be either or, I personally would love to see all three of Semien, Sanchez, and Johnson up next year each getting around 400 ABs and competing for starting jobs and playing time between SS and 2B. Plus Semien can get occasional PT at 3B or LF and Johnson could as well in the OF. Of course this means trading Alexei which would hurt but if we actually want to get some young quality pitching or a power bat this off-season, Ramirez being traded offers the best chance of getting that back. I like all 3 of Sanchez, Johnson and Semien, but I don't know if I would trade Alexei just yet. Yes, his value at an all time high right now and he very well could win a gold glove this year, but he's one of those players that is just a White Sox player, homegrown, and a veteran leader that Sox will need when they get good. I would keep Alexei and trade one of 3 prospects. I would not be mad if Alexei is traded but if it were to happen, better be damn good.

Better Future Core: Sox or Cubs?
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Who dose the Sox core consist of? Because I cant define them, and when you cant define your core then you dont have one. Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Garcia, Rodon. Outside but possibly Gillaspie, Alexei (age), Flowers (works well with staff). Not bad if you ask me....

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Good ball game. Feel good about Noesi as the 5th starter next year. I agree. Rotation of Sale, Shields, Quintana, Rodon, Noesi is pretty impressive. Hopefully they can make a run at Shields.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) Given what Hahn said about trading for high dollar contracts last week, I think an Upton deal is plausible. The Sox have some room to take on a contract like this, and it is a guy that makes some sense for the team, if they think they can get him to hit again. At the very worst, you are at least trading for a guy that makes the OF defense a helluva lot better. If you make it a bad contract for bad contract trade, you can add Upton at no cost at all until the 3rd and final year. I wonder if the Braves would think about Danks for Upton. Sign Shields and trade for a lefty bat then. Sale Shields Quintana Rodon Noesi LF/CF Eaton SS Alexei 1B Abreu DH Lefty bat RF Garcia 3B Gillaspie LF/CF Upton C Flowers 2B Sanchez/Semien/Johnson

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 11:19 PM) Baez currently has a 44.4% K-rate. The highest K-rate ever recorded in a season by a qualified hitter was Chris Carter, just last year, at 36%. The kid has crazy power, but his contact skills are atrocious.

Reds Pitchers Available
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 38m Sources: #Reds’ Latos, Leake went on revocable waivers yesterday. Both likely to be claimed, neither figures to be traded. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 38m #Reds expected to trade at least one starting pitcher this off-season, when they can negotiate with all teams, not just a claiming club. I mentioned earlier in another thread about the off season and I thought of a trade to acquire Bruce and Marshall. I really think the Reds might need to rebuild and will explore their options to build around some guys. Even though I'd like to acquire a pitcher through free agency (Shields, my #1 target) and acquire a bat through trade, this does give Hahn options.

At what point is this season not considered a success?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) The one thing that prevents me from completely calling this a successful season is the rash of injuries. It's prevented development for some guys and shown for others that it could be a long-term risk big enough to keep this core from ever being competitive. I agree, but you can definitely see the talent when they are playing. We have pieces in the lineup that can do damage, just have to surround them with a little more. (Eaton, Abreu, Avi, Alexei, Sanchez)

It's about that time of the year again...
QUOTE (daggins @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) Based on what Hahn has said (about "another Eaton like trade") and what the chatter has been RE: Sox rumors, I would guess Dom Brown and Pedro Alvarez will be two names heard often. As lefty power hitters having lousy years in organizations strongly focused on winning, they could be buy-low candidates as Eaton was. No idea what they would cost though. Hahn could also target someone like this: http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=t...itting/2014/ALL As an outfielder in a system deep in star-caliber OF talent, and having a breakout season in AA, he might be attractive to a team like the Sox. I want no part of Brown unless he is the DH, he is worse than Viciedo in the outfield. I'd be trying to get a hold of Dickerson from Colorado. Might cost a lot, but I think he would be worth it. A Dickerson, Eaton and Garcia outfield is solid, and Dickerson brings that lefty bat in the line up.
