  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) I don't think that's necessary at all. Jimmy found it interesting so so be it. I didn't know Dunn wanted out. I didn't know Keppinger had family issues. I figured ADA was on the way out but an insider saying it's a sure thing is interesting. It wasn't a shot at Jimmy. Was a shot at Levine for saying obvious things.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) As many of you may know, Bruce Levine is on 670 The Score now. He was just on the night show with David Shuster and mentioned some interesting things. He made it sound like he would be completely shocked if De Aza were on the team. Says he will definitely be traded. Also basically said he'd be shocked if they didn't add another catcher. Mentioned that they need another RHP and possibly a utility guy because Leury Garcia didn't hit at all after his arrival last year. He also mentioned that Sox would love to move Keppinger but that nobody would be picking up that $8 million. He also said that he expects Keppinger to have a bounce back season because he was dealing with some serious personal issues last year. I was unaware of these? Also, he mentioned that even though Dunn is the only LH power hitter on the team, that he is not a fit. He said that Hahn would love trade him and mentioned Houston. He praised Dunn for being a great guy but said that Dunn doesn't want to be here anymore and is ready to be out of Chicago. He really made it sound like Houston could be a landing spot because he is from Texas and they need to draw down there. Did he say anything that we all already don't know?
  3. I don't see why Brewers would trade Lucroy?
  4. Can I get a one paragraph summary of that book please?
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:38 AM) He wouldn't be a number two on this team. He's not very good. Yep, super overrated. Wouldn't want him in this park and in the AL.
  6. Damm new people and their misleading titles. I'm sure this will be changed quickly
  7. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Still a lot of good LH relievers out there. One of Eric O'Flaherty, Jose Mijares, J.P. Howell, or Scott Downs, in that order would be great additions I think Howell just signed with the Dodgers.
  8. And Carlos Sanchez. We might have a lot of trade chips soon
  9. Just imagine if Hawkins, Anderson, and Micah Johnson ban out. Hope they all have great years. Johnson could end up being the most interesting one with his speed
  10. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Why is there doubt about him making the 25 man roster? Who will beat him out at third? It isn't that. The question is does he need more seasoning in the minors or should he start in the bigs? Same question for Semien basically
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) Micah Johnson, Tyler Flowers and Scott Snodgress. Sign a LH SU man and call it an offseason. If only Kevin Towers were still the GM of the Padres... No to Johnson.
  12. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) This trade is exciting and I know they're building for the future, but the White Sox are going to lose 100 games in 2014. I hope everyone can stomach that. It's gonna be tough. I don't see us losing 100 games and even if we do we will get another top draft pick that will make us better. But just because we have younger players doesn't necessarily mean we lose more games. I think we have gotten better on paper
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) I believe Gillaspie has options left so he can be sent to AAA. Keppinger is probably gone. Already have Konerko and a backup catcher on the bench, a DeAza/Vicedo LF plattoon, so the last bench spot has to go to somebody who can play 2B, SS and 3B. L. Garcia
  14. Will Davidson start from the beginning or will he start at AAA?
  15. Awesome!! This is the guy everyone has wanted. I'm fine giving up Reed, hopefully he pans out and starting but mid season. This young core is looking better and better
  16. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I agree, I for one am definitely not near ready to give up in Gordo. I think he finally puts it together this season, so long as he stays healthy. I do think Seimen will be a decent MLB'er he needs at least another half a season or a whole season to develops in the the minors. We rush Beckham similarly as we have Seimen (quicker even) and I believe that is why it has taken Beckham so long to put it together. Allowing him to jump to the majors without seeing any kind of failure in professional baseball till he reached the Majors effected his psyche and stunted his growth. I think it would be a major mistake trading him away, and I believe whichever team we would trade him to will recover the Beckham we thought we drafted out of college. He's one of my favorites and I want him to become what he should be on the South side not somewhere else. I also think we need give Steverson a chance to work with some of these kids. What he did in Oakland shouldn't get unnoticed for the potential he can bring to our hitters with some work. Semien has over 1000 AB's in the minor leagues. Beckham had just over 200 AB's before being brought up. Didn't even spend a full season in the minors. I don't see how you can compare the two when it comes to being rushed.
  17. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) I think we should block Semien with someone & make him earn a starting job. No bench, no multiple roles, no "here's the job, go ahead and lose it." I also have no issue dealing Beckham for value & starting Keppinger at 2B since we're probably going to suck anyway. Make Semien earn the promotion, and if you have Sanchez at Charlotte too then maybe you get a nice little post-ST position battle going on to see who is going to come in & save the day at 2B. Well obviously he will have to earn it in spring training. Nobody has came out and said it was his job to lose.. Even if we do trade Beckham that doesn't mean Semien is the starter, he has to beat out Garcia and Kepp still. I would rather Beckham be the guy off the bench who can play 2b, SS, and 3B
  18. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) A few facts about Gordon Beckham last year: 1. Beckham hit .287 vs RH pitchers, but only .195 vs LH. That is the exact opposite of what you would think. 2. Beckham broke the hamate bone in his wrist after the first 7 games of the season. He missed six weeks, came back and through July 22nd had his average well over .300. On that date he re injured the wrist, tearing the ligament away from the bone. He continued to play the rest of the year, but hit .240 in August and a lowly .210 in September. When RV says he was hurt, he is not kidding. I think we need to give this kid a break. If his wrist has healed, there is no reason why he cannot be an above average 2B offensively - better than Semien - and certainly he is already an "A" defensively. There is little doubt in my mind that the Sox are going to commit to him unless somebody knocks them off their feet with an offer. If he wasn't healthy after the 6 weeks he missed then why did he continue to play?? Especially through September?? What was the point if he was hurt? Let him get healthy. I am done making excuses for Beckham and I think you should too. He is 27 and entering his 5th full year and hasn't progressed at all.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) I agree. I want Semien to get an extended trial at AAA. What would happen if Beckham were traded and Semien (predictably) started the first 2 months of the year putting up something like .230/.270/.300? We'd be calling for him to get demoted and his confidence is shot. If you keep him at AAA, not only do I think he's more likely to succeed and possibly even force his way up, but if he struggles, he can work it out down there rather than facing the stress and rigors of an MLB atmosphere. You could also say after getting time in the bigs last year and being brought back to AAA could hurt his confidence especially after thinking he has a shot of making it.. Or we could just start him at 3B but I don't think that would be the right thing to do for him
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) So Phengley made his debut in 13 @ 25 yo in 204 AB's and is never going to amount to anything? Wasn't aware we had scouts posting on this board. I'm not saying he'll will be the next big thing at catcher, but I'm not going to write him off @25 yo after such a small sampling, that's just stupid. You just can't please some fans, I mean scouts. ST should be interesting with the competition at catcher. Could light some fires under a few asses for sure. Agreed, if they can't find a proven catcher in think Phegley needs to start, if he sucks through June then make a move
  21. I think we really need to trade Beckham. I want Semien to start from the start of the season to see what he can do
  22. Just let him start, who cares? He could end up being decent.
  23. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) I think if the Sox are trying to move Viciedo, it goes to show you how out of favor he has fallen. Not saying he doesn't have talent/value, but the Sox must feel his swing is just never going to come around and be that big threat he has the potential to be. After last season, I don't see Viciedo turning into anything more than a Delmon Young type player. I honestly think it is because De Aza can steal bases and hit some home runs and isn't a station to station player so they would rather have him in the line up then Viciedo. They probably think we will have home runs from Dunn/Abreu/Garcia and that we need players who can do more then just hit home runs. De Aza gives you some speed and has some pop.
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) Anywhere he wants. You make room for that kind of bat! I sense sarcasm
