Werent you literally arguing like 2 hours ago that Leury is a fine bet to replicate Segura's production at 2B for 1/3 of the cost?
-
Not really. He was only used as a starter for part of 21 because we were absolutely riddled with injuries. He's never been a "starter" for the Sox. Its not Leury's fault everyone got hurt in 21 and he didn't.
-
We've literally already been told he's not going to be used as an everyday starter in RF/2B, so you can stop repeating this now.
-
If by starting 331 games over 9 seasons is a starter for you, then sure. This move was obviously going to happen. Sox like Leury - Leury loves the Sox. He was always coming back. I was hoping more in the 2/$8M range. 3/$20M would be kind of gross, but still not large dollars. Leury is useful to have around. I'd much rather him cover the IF for a couple weeks when Yoan/TA/future 2B hit the IL than Mendick.
-
Leury is very useful in this role. My guess - 3/$16M. Good for Leury.

Hahn is alive!

It is. Which is why I've succumbed to the Segura move as being option A. I don't love picking up Kimbrel's option to flip him for a guy making the same amount, but he's probably the best fit ASSUMING the Sox can solve LHB/+ hitter against RHP/decent enough defender in RF. Anderson SS, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Grandal C, Robert CF, Eloy DH, Conforto RF, Vaughn LF, Segura 2B is a really, really, really good offensive team.

Pin this post.

I mean, I'd take him. I'd vastly prefer Conforto and a defense plus 2B to bat at bottom of order though. Story is a good player that makes the Sox better, but he's also a reflection of this team's offensive issues.
-
I think that would be a fantastic offseason. I'd shoot for Archer on the last bullet, but I think that team wins the central easily and is a legit WS contender.
-
Jsut what this team needs - another below average hitter against RHP for a huge price tag!
-
Shrug. It never made sense though. Said as much since he first started pushing that narrative.
-
Depends on what types of deals we're talking about. I fully expected the Sox to sign a guy like Conforto to a deal similar to Yaz. I think that fair to expect given team needs and overall financial situation. I truly do not think they plan to finish off the 2 holes on this roster with bargain bin junk (at least I sincerely hope). But I never expected the Sox to hand out $100M+ deals to guys like Scherzer, Ray, or Semien, or be a player in monster deals to the elites like Seager/Correa. There is a very clean delineation there.
-
I think $180-$190M is where they'll land. Subtract Kimbrel's $15M, and they have $25-35M to spend. Conforto can definitely fit into that, even in the unlikely scenario that they keep Kimbrel.
-
I don't think Scherzer/Verlander fit into the budget and never have - so no - I don't think that is the case. I think they see a guy that didn't pitch over 5 innings the 2nd half of the season and know his arm is fucked and that $18.4M isn't worth the gamble that he takes it.
-
Sox wouldn't. Or they'd have given him the QO. And the Sox know more about his arm/shoulder than any other org in the game.
-
Some fans lack of understanding that the Sox operate within a budget and likely always will (even once JR is gone) is equally maddening. You're getting mad at something that was never going to happen anyway. Sox have ~$170M+ committed to this team as is. No way they're going over $200M. Only so many dollars to go around.
-
Sox SP flopped in the playoffs. Rodon included. No ifs ands or buts. But I will take the 162 game sample over the 4 game sample EVERY SINGLE TIME.
-
His career would certainly indicate otherwise.
-
I don't see Scherzer at $43.5M AAV or Sox smashing their biggest FA contract ever for Robby Ray as realistic fits when we already have one of the best rotations in the game. So I don't find it all that subjective - I find it realistic.
-
I'd love see the Twins hand Rodon 3/$55M just to see him make 30 starts the next three years.
-
This. Sox fans thrive off this shit. No one of note off the board was a realistic fit. Yet this place and Sox twitter is burning down. Big time yawn. Talk to me when ST is approaching if we still haven't made any meaningful additions.
-
It helps. Sox are a 2B away from sporting all star team. Yes, definitely righty heavy, but Conforto, Moncada, Grandal and perhaps who ever is at 2B provides balance. Gavin will mix in. Probably won’t be the best offense in the league against RHP, but very very good if healthy. Will, however, still absolutely mash LHP.

This is a good post and precisely how I feel. It hurts to see the studs go off the shelf, but there is plenty of time. Even if it doesn’t happen next day or two. Money wise, they’ve all felt somewhat tough to swallow. And no, I’m not paying the salaries before someone asks.

Expanded Playoff Proposal - 7 Teams from each League
ChiSox59 replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Please don't expand baseball playoffs. Its what makes it better than all the other major sports that half the league doesn't get in. Don't fix what isn't broken.
