  1. Depends on what types of deals we're talking about. I fully expected the Sox to sign a guy like Conforto to a deal similar to Yaz. I think that fair to expect given team needs and overall financial situation. I truly do not think they plan to finish off the 2 holes on this roster with bargain bin junk (at least I sincerely hope). But I never expected the Sox to hand out $100M+ deals to guys like Scherzer, Ray, or Semien, or be a player in monster deals to the elites like Seager/Correa. There is a very clean delineation there.
  2. I think $180-$190M is where they'll land. Subtract Kimbrel's $15M, and they have $25-35M to spend. Conforto can definitely fit into that, even in the unlikely scenario that they keep Kimbrel.
  3. I don't think Scherzer/Verlander fit into the budget and never have - so no - I don't think that is the case. I think they see a guy that didn't pitch over 5 innings the 2nd half of the season and know his arm is fucked and that $18.4M isn't worth the gamble that he takes it.
  4. Sox wouldn't. Or they'd have given him the QO. And the Sox know more about his arm/shoulder than any other org in the game.
  5. Some fans lack of understanding that the Sox operate within a budget and likely always will (even once JR is gone) is equally maddening. You're getting mad at something that was never going to happen anyway. Sox have ~$170M+ committed to this team as is. No way they're going over $200M. Only so many dollars to go around.
  6. Sox SP flopped in the playoffs. Rodon included. No ifs ands or buts. But I will take the 162 game sample over the 4 game sample EVERY SINGLE TIME.
  7. His career would certainly indicate otherwise.
  8. I don't see Scherzer at $43.5M AAV or Sox smashing their biggest FA contract ever for Robby Ray as realistic fits when we already have one of the best rotations in the game. So I don't find it all that subjective - I find it realistic.
  9. I'd love see the Twins hand Rodon 3/$55M just to see him make 30 starts the next three years.
  10. This. Sox fans thrive off this shit. No one of note off the board was a realistic fit. Yet this place and Sox twitter is burning down. Big time yawn. Talk to me when ST is approaching if we still haven't made any meaningful additions.
  11. It helps. Sox are a 2B away from sporting all star team. Yes, definitely righty heavy, but Conforto, Moncada, Grandal and perhaps who ever is at 2B provides balance. Gavin will mix in. Probably won’t be the best offense in the league against RHP, but very very good if healthy. Will, however, still absolutely mash LHP.
  12. This is a good post and precisely how I feel. It hurts to see the studs go off the shelf, but there is plenty of time. Even if it doesn’t happen next day or two. Money wise, they’ve all felt somewhat tough to swallow. And no, I’m not paying the salaries before someone asks.
  13. Please don't expand baseball playoffs. Its what makes it better than all the other major sports that half the league doesn't get in. Don't fix what isn't broken.
  14. I want nothing to do with anything that involves 2 of Eloy/Vaughn/Sheets in the corners everyday. Would I accept it? I mean, yeah? I watch 155+ games a year. I am not about to "not accept" it when I've watched horseshit baseball for the lionshare of my 30 years on this planet while we have the best rsoter in my lifetime. But I'd be disappointed if the Sox don't sign Conforto.
  15. The nice thing about Conforto, especially at 4/$70M-80M is if he bounces back to 2019-2020 numbers, he's a BARGAIN. Then if Colas or Cespedes explode, you have an awesome problem on your hands and can trade Conforto for a meaningful return AND get the team younger and cheaper while doing it.
  16. I guess I just have a little more faith that the Sox will make the finishing touches to this roster and not go cheap. This is the offseason to do it. I wasn't expecting elite additions. But Conforto, trade for LaStella or Segura, trade Kimbrel for a cheap controllable reliver, and sign a guy like Archer all seems doable and like a team that wins the central easily. I also don't think Joc is half the player Conforto is.
  17. Probably would. Wouldnt like it near as much. The answer is a resounding yes if you could tell me it wouldn't impact future endeavors, but we all know that isn't the case.
  18. The Sox suck against RHP. We need LH batters. Generally left handed batters are not as good against LHP. Conforto is 36% above average against RHP across over 2,000 PA. He's a great hitter against RHP, a clear team need. I don't want to give Conforto $100M either. I think 4/$70M is my bid, and I'd stretch a bit above that to make it happen. Maybe he gets 5/$100M. He certainly would have if he had a better 2021, which is why I think there a possibility of getting him at what ends up being a bargain. You were just advocating for Joc Pederson. Not only does he suck against LHP (68 wRC+) in his career, but he is also a clear step down from Conforto against RHP (123 wRC+) and is a wrose defender. Just for those keeping score, Conforto wRC+ against LHP is 94. At least be consistent.
  19. He looked awful at it. He cost us at least a game or two because he was so awful.
  20. Lol. The numbers where Conforto has a 136 wRC+ against RHP in his career in 2,187 PA. Look, Gavin was very good against RHP in a very small sample. I am not suggesting we dump him - he has a spot on this roster, and would be a great injury fill in. But he has zero defensive value whatsoever, and is a DH only. Nice guy to have around? Yes. Our long term solution in RF, or a reason to pass on quite literally the best realistic fit for team needs? Absolutely not.
  21. We should not be trading or pushing anyone to the side for Gavin sheets. He will get his at bats. He's a DH only and absolute butcher in the field. He's not a guy we should be building around, but simply a nice guy to have around with 2 more option years.
  22. How in the world are there not enough at bats for Conforto? He's probably instantly be the best hitter on the team against RHP.
  23. No. No we do not.
  24. Giordano's thin crust pizza? Really?
