Its actually less than half FWIW. Colome $6.25M guaranteed in 21. Hendriks $11M guaranteed in 21. The Hendriks contract is a little goofy due to the 4th year buyout/guaranteed money thing, but $13.25M AAV on a 4 year deal (which is really what the deal is) for one the elite closers the last two seasons isn't a bad contract IMO. Now whether or not he can sustain that level of success....we'll have to see.

No, I don't think the Twins are better than they were last year. I think they were better than they were before they signed the FAs. The Twins bullpen is still worse than it was last year. The Twins rotation is worse than it was last year. The Twins offense is worse than it was last year. The only thing that improved is MI defense - admittedly but a lot. I agree Colome is solid addition at $6.25M. But he's not a world beater and his peripherals (and the eye test) suggest significant regression moving forward. Not at all impressed with the Twins offseason.

If you don't think an offseason of JA Happ, Alex Colome, and Andrelton Simmons is dumpster diving for a team that is smack dab in the midst or the back end of their contention window...then yeah, agree to disagree. Bringing back Cruz was pretty important, though at some point that guys age is going to catch up to him. Those moves made the Twins better than they were before they were signed - no doubt about it. But not exactly a huge offseason for the Twins. And I also said the Twins were dumpster diving along with the Sox. Also not impressed with the Sox offseason - though they spent more than the Twins did the entire offseason on just Hendriks.

I don't disagree. He did a solid job. But it was rarely pretty or uneventful. I do agree that $6.25M, its a solid move.

Simmons is a pretty major improvement. They just went from one of the worst MI defense in the league - if not THE worst - to above average with Simmons. Its not flashy or exciting, but it was a very good move for the Twins. Cruz was obviously important for them to bring back. Still think the Twins need another good SP that they're not going to get, and their pen needs work. I agree the Sox look comfortably ahead of the Twins atm.

Probably $1M more than I would have liked, but I wanted to bring Rodon back. I was hoping to bring him back as an insurance policy to a solid backend SP addition from FA. Not as the backend SP from FA. Hopefully the Sox still plan on adding another SP.

Yeah, his days as a SP are probably over. I wouldn't pay $4M for his services either, but $1.5M-$2M to have around as back end rotation depth and potentially a decent lefty reliever? I think thats worth it. If the Sox are done with SP additions, we're scary thin after the top 3 and will be relying on Reynaldo for at least 15 starts. No thanks. Any injuries to Gio/Lynn/Keuchel, and the rotiation is in serious trouble. Not that Rodon changes much - frankly I would have rather brought him in addition to a more reliable back end option. But those are drying up in a hurry.

For one, there is probably a decent chance that the minor league season doesn't even start before April 20 or whatever the exact date is to get the extra year (should be within a week of that). And if he does stay in the minors past April, I don't see him struggling so much that the Sox play the entire season season with Yermin or Collins DHing most the time.

I think Vaughn will be more like 20 days. Kopech I wouldn't expect to see until mid June. But yeah, its really is demoralizing if this is the extent of the moves this offseason.

Not significantly. But Leury is going to be on the roster anyway. And Marwin has more positional flexibility than Leury. I think the better question would be - how much better is Marwin than Danny Mendick. And I think the answer is ALOT.

I just really like Marwin because he can play everywhere. We have guys in LF, 3B and RF that struggle to stay healthy. Marwin is a pretty good defensive 3B. I think he's a great fit, and a guy that can fill in for 2-3 week stints without losing a ton when IL stints happen.

Which is a great reason to have interest. Make the Twins give Cruz a sizable multi-year deal, and hope father time FINALLY catches up to him. I'd be fine having Cruz on an EE deal, but I also am more than fine with Vaughn and Abreu splitting 1B/DH duties for 21. What the Sox really need is a guy who can play everywhere, and ideally bat left handed. Since LaStella is gone, another former Twin Marwin Gonzalez would be my guy.

Good move for the Twins. Both Polanco and Arraez are poor defenders. I doubt Simmons is as good as he once was defensively, but still well above average SS. The bat is nothing to write home about, but this makes them better. Their pitching staff still need quite a bit of work though, in my opinion.

Some folks I know that are fairly connected to the Twins think Cruz is pretty much a guarantee to return to MN, FWIW.

Right. Should be plenty of money to sign a bat and a SP. Embarrassing to not put the finishing touches on this roster.
