QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) I thought that was announced awhile ago http://www.ismyshowcancelled.com/article/2...-with-season-5/ Okay, I saw a lot of links to the announcement on my feed and timeline. Thought it was announced today.

If it hasn't been announced already but Person of Interest is coming to an end. I'm holding out hope that Christopher Nolan directs an episode but with Dunkirk ramping up and getting to shoot soon that looks like an impossibility. (It's his brother's show)

I have a lot of respect for LaRoche, sticking to his beliefs on how he wants to raise his child but I agree with the Sox, his child doesn't need to be there every day. I hope they give Morneau a shot and wait to use the money at the deadline.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) I'm looking forward to Midnight Special. Yeah it was pretty good and Jeff Nichols is pretty awesome. Really nice guy, he gave everyone really thought out answers and didn't really shy away from anything. He brought up Aquaman and said that after Loving, he's going to try to increase the scope of his films.

Forgot I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane and Brothers Grimsby 10 Cloverfield: I like it a lot more than Cloverfield. I did not have a problem with the ending and John Goodman was amazing and put up an Oscar worthy performance. Grimsby: It's not good but it's not bad either, just meh. Lots of male genitalia. I saw it at 7pm and in a theater filled with ten people, a couple actually walked out of it. Not for people who are easily offended. I think Louis Lettier did this movie in, I think he's a hack and I hear he's a terrible person. I think the movie would have done better with a director who was more used to comedy or if Baron Cohen directed it himself.

Saw a few movies: Knight of Cups: Terrence Malick is a huge deal for me and this movies is very memorizing and dreamlike. Christian Bale does a lot with nothing and each chapter is different from the last. I need to see it again to see where I would rank it but it's very good. Midnight Special: WB had a special screening downtown and we got to hang with Jeff Nichols afterwards and he did a Q+A. Equal parts Carpenter and Spielberg, great ensemble, fantastic score and I liked the pacing. My only complaint about it, would be the lack of exposition. Knight of Cups had more exposition and that's saying something. The Witch: Saw it again, not a scare fest but a very tense and psychologically draining movie and that's a compliment. I see Batman v. Superman in a couple days, lots of great buzz surrounding it. WB screened the movie for Anthony Breznican a couple weeks ago. They held company and private screenings last week, theater chains see it today and the junket sees it tomorrow, the embargo lifts on Tuesday at 12:01. If anyone wants to go in cold, I suggest going dark because the ending of the film has leaked online, along with pics.

Adam LaRoche retires
I guess it's Eaton to open the season as DH. And once he's healthy that role will be a rotation between Abreu, Garcia and Melky

That's $13M back in the bank. But what a shocker.

Some Stuff On Lineup Optimaztion
Lineup optimization is basically maximizing the run scoring potential of your batting order, by minimizing the number of plate appearances by your worst hitter and increasing the number of plate appearances of your best hitter. Here is an article that breaks down lineup optimization as it pertains to every spot in the batting order: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17...-your-lineup-by There's a good book on it: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Playing-Percent...ywords=the+book Here is an article on the teachings of the book: http://venomstrikes.com/2015/01/05/optimiz...can-score-runs/

3/12, White Sox at Cubs, Television stations list
QUOTE (aryzner @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) Who would you prefer in the two hole? Me, I like the idea of batting Abreu there, along the lines of that idea of batting your best hitter 2nd. Exactly, you always bat your best hitter second not third like traditional baseball wisdom has been telling us. You bat your best hitter second because, over the course of a 162 game season, the player you bats seconds gets the most plate appearances over the course of the season and that increases your chances of scoring runs. I think the lineup should be Eaton Abreu Cabrera Frazier Lawrie LaRoche Garcia Avila/Navarro Saladino/Rollins

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 05:50 AM) Mickey is a sweet prospect that is for dang sure. for me, i will go back and preach the idea of pitching, esp when there was front of the rotation #1 projected pitchers. same thing for the comp you had quantrill, garrett and shawaryn, but you also had craig, abreu and alonso for the positional players. , I picked who I thought was the best player on the board. I don't think there's an arm outside of Jason Groome that I would have over Moniak, I think his ceiling is that high and since he has a special bat at a premium position it was too good to pass up. I picked Cody because since he's a senior, which would allow to save money and go over in the subsequent rounds of the draft and he might be able to help a major league team in a bullpen role this season. If I'm looking at contending, that appeals to me.

2016 MLB Draft
Had our first community mock draft of the year on the subreddit. I acted as the White Sox and a second team that escapes me at the moment, here are the results. https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBDraft/comments/...103616_results/ I ended up nabbing: Round 1: Mickey Moniak - I was shocked that he lasted that long, I think that he is a top 5 talent and might be the best pure hitter in the class and he should stay in CF and play solid defense. Comp Pick: Kyle Cody - I got a big arm with Cody that projects to be a solid back of the rotation arm for a plus reliever, should be a fast riser through any team's system. The rest of the results are in the link

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) Alec Hansen - RHP - Oklahoma. 3IP, 3H, 2R, 1ER, 3BB, 5K. #MLBDraft. Pitched a total of 4 IP through 2 starts, he's walked 7 guys. He really hurt himself not playing in the offseason and now people are saying that he might be a reliever.

**2016 Films Thread**
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Dude, GTFO with this nonsense. The plot was almost non-existent and anyone saying otherwise is spitting some serious art school bulls***. I enjoyed the movie a ton, but let's not pretend it is something that it's not. Also, Max never had a daughter, so I'm not sure where you're getting that part of the plot from unless you're assuming that little girl haunting him throughout the film is actually his daughter. I knew he had a dead son and I assumed they changed it to a daughter because it's a soft reboot. I have to look that up. But please do us a favor and let's have intelligent conversation, please keep the acronyms in the high school cafeteria. Mad Max had a plot, it might have been simple but it had a plot and told a story. The movie did have themes, did you know that all art whether it's music, photography, film, literature has themes. Mad Max explored it's themes with such subtle depth, yet they were so prominent in the film. It's about surival, escaping to a higher power, feminism, female empowerment, and redemption amongst other things. The script is very good and it's the best directed and well crafted film of the year. Go online and watch the BTS and look at how they made the movie from the development stage to shooting and post production. It's staggering. Is Spotlihht a bad movie? No, I think it's a great movie but I happen to think Mad Max is better. I really hate it when people say that big budget movies/genre films can't be artistic, it's complete bulls***. Big budget films can be every bit as artistic as their smaller counterparts. Being a drama or a smaller budget film doesn't guarantee artistic merit and being a big budget film or a genre film isn't a guarantee of being mindless entertainment.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) I couldnt disagree more, Max Mad was a nice Sci-Fi flick but it lacked any depth whatsoever. Spotlight and Room were tremendous. That's not true, it was a story about a man running away from tragedy, a tragedy that saw him fail his wife and daughter. And when he's at his lowest he stumbles upon Furiosa and the wives. The movie talked about mental illness and had a very strong feminist overtones and imagery. It had a ton of depth. Maybe we didn't see the same movie.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 05:59 AM) i know, i made a oscars post, but i decided to delete it, i was not going to stay up and watch it. my movie won. spotlight. excellent ... excellent movie. however the movie Tumbo is equally great. i don't know, Leo won in best actor ... i just can't see it. the Brie won best actress. that was a tough category .... well deserve. I think that Mad Max should have Best Picture and Director, it's by far the most well crafted film of the year, great premise, wonderful editing, thought provoking subtext and great performances. How did the Revenant not win, if it won Best Director?

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) Good grief, Collins needs to shut up about the backwards hat. That's just too pretentiously nit-picky. It's ST, who cares! Then again, I'm not surprised. I've had people from the generation before me give me a hard time for wearing my hat backwards and I've been wearing my hat backwards since the late 70's/early 80's when I was a kid. If the sun is out I wear it the usual way to shield my eyes ( ginger's don't like sunlight ) but otherwise, I prefer it backwards and always have. Society is too wrapped up with what is socially accepted as the 'proper' way of doing things. I appreciate your insight from an African American's point of view on Baseball. It's amazing how far society/baseball has come and yet still has a long way to go when it comes to accepting the cultures of others. When will people learn? I think Rollins, Anderson and Saladino should all wear their hats backwards and make a statement. Jackie Robinson might have broke the barrier, but the color line in baseball is something that still exist in today's world, it just changed forms.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (daggins @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) There doesn't have to be segregation. That is actually not allowed, so its a really bad (and strange) example. Collins calling out Yo for something very benign may not be racially motivated (although it is easy to see how it would be), but it doesn't have to be for the point to stand. There are a lot of Terry Collins' in the baseball world. Some are coaches, some are players, some are scouts, and some are executives. All of them have a rigid idea of how to "play the game the right way" which is such a stupid notion I won't even get into it. The point is that a young, athletically talented black kid with options will probably prefer to play a sport where there are less Terry Collins' to tell him he is wrong to be himself. I will toast my drink in your honor tonight, you nailed it.
