  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) this is pretty much like last yrs discussion. Danks can't be moved b/c of his contract. Contract isnt that bad, they owe him $33M. The sox would have to eat half of his salary this year to get a fair return
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) With three off days in the first 11 days of the season, we really don't need a 5th starter. Assuming Sale is out, each guy gets two starts and they would all be pitching on five days rest in their third starts. Hopefully Sale is back by the 17th though, because we then hit a stretch of 17 games in 17 days (assuming no rainouts). It's after this stretch I would target a possible Rodon call-up. At this point, Hahn and the coaching staff would have five starts to evaluate Danks & Noesi on and four/five AAA starts to evaluate Rodon on. And more importantly, we'd be about a week past the service time deadline. I'll straight up say I disagree with Balta on the need to baby Rodon throughout the season. His issues in college last year were due to extremely high pitch counts, not because he pitched a ton of innings. If he's a better option than Danks or Noesi, then he needs to be in the rotation as soon as possible as long as we don't lose the extra year of service time. I don't really care if he can only give us 20 or so starts. Take those starts from May to August and then shut him down or move him to the bullpen the rest of the way. There is no reason for this skip a start nonsense Balta is proposing. We need Rodon this year to help keep us in the race while see how this team takes shape. There's no need to f*** around with the rest of the rotation in hopes of getting a few starts from him in September. Again, take your 20 starts from Carlos and call it a day. Those starts from May to July are ultimately just as important (if not more) in terms of making the playoffs. And the good thing is if we need to add a starter, at least we'll have a better idea if we're a legit contender. Awesome post. I think that Rodon should be called up after the extra year of service time is guaranteed, 20 big leauge starts would be ideal with him moving to the bullpen for the playoffs, since you can empty a four man rotation. The thing that intrigues me the most about the Rodon situation is that if he gets called up and is performing well, along with the other members of the rotation, he gives the Sox some trade possibilities should they feel the need to make a move because he makes guys like Noessi and (especially) Danks expendable If the Sox feel like they need to upgrade in an certain or if they want to add more depth to the farm.
  3. If the Sox make the playoffs, and Crain, Jones and Alberts are all healthy, then the team is going to have a lot of options in the bullpen before they get to Robertson.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/nate-j...x-recovery-plan Having both Crain AND Jones back would be too much to expect but just one could make a huge difference. Those two would make a nice pickup at the deadline
  5. It's good to see that Courtney Hawkins is having a solid spring, hopefully he'll propel it into having a good year at AA
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) 2 straight years teams haven't seemed to care much about Leury getting at bats. Didn't Konerko steal at bats from him? It certainty didn't make any sense for the Sox to carry three 1B/DH types last year
  7. QUOTE (glangon @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Who hits the ball less than Beckham. I reckon you'll see him in Charlotte this year Farmer and JD are right that you can't judge his bat because he was never given an opportunity, you're probably right that he ends up in Charlotte but I would rather have Garcia than Beckham.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) You may be. I see a guy who can provide solid defense off the bench and can be another baserunning threat.
  9. Take it im the only guy who is routing for Luery Garcia to make the team out of camp
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) hey Josh, i wonder if making a list of the top prospects plus some added sleepers list with ongoing stats is a good idea. pretty much like sox pride did last week. your thoughts???? i wouldn't be opposed but I have to write a draft report for the MLB draft subreddit on the Sox ironically.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) What possible position could they give him that wouldn't be considered a demotion, or, at best, a lateral move? Not seeing it. Plus, location has to count for something when he was already out in LA. And the appeal of being part of the building of a completely new front office compared to joining the fairly static Sox group. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/nov/01...ires-offseason/ http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/front...ce.jsp?c_id=cws Where would you put White exactly? Haber was just promoted and is being groomed. You can't demote Fabian, Capra, Bell, KW, Paddy, Laumann The Pages FO is pretty static too, I think Preller was prohibited from bringing over some key scout's from Texas Along with him. And White had no interest in being a GM, i assume need be willing to take the same 'special assistant to the GM' gig. If i had to fire someone out would be Bell, but you can bring someone new info the organization without firing or denoting someone.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) Or the guy who brought in Trout and a lot more Angels' top prospects. That said, with Laumann in place already, it would have meant firing him...and/or Bell. For whatever reason, they apparently preferred to invest time and energy into Haber and hope he catches up on the talent eval side. Another factor is probably the limited White Sox intl. resources up until 2-3 seasons ago. Maybe he preferred AJ Preller to Hahn, we'll probably never be privy to what internal discussions occurred regarding White. What happened 2 or 3 years ago dosen't matter, when White was circling interviews the new CBA was already in effect. What happened 2 or 3 years ago is irrelevant. And you can still bring in guys like White and Greg Morhardt (The guy who scouted Trout) into the org without firing anybody.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) weird time to read this, well at least for me. Callis has sox at 8 picking Vandy SS Swanson. here is the link http://m.mlb.com/news/article/103053582/20...ayo-call-top-10 ref mock 3-6. on this mock site, last month they had the sox picking Swanson as well and now... some HS outfielder i haven't seen before. https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...draft-3-1-3615/ I like Pickett, but he's not going in the top 10, there's no buzz around him that would suggest that To my knowledge. P I really like Phil Bickford at 8 but I'm curious about his height, I've seen him listed at 6'4 on his team sites but fangraphs had him at 6'0. This would cause some doubt about him being a starter or reliver. I also like Dillion Tate, Ashe Russell and Brady Aiken I hope the pick at 8 is Michael Matuella, who I believe will fall on draft day.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) kind of depends on the philosophy that is in place and whether a new one will take over. if it is adding to and not turning over the apple cart so to speak, this is what you get. i too would have like to see some new blood in maybe in the org for running the minors and scouting. new blood, aggressive ideas. the sox ownership believes in loyalty. Haber deserved his promotions. I'm not saying that he didn't, I have actually been hoping for this promotion since last year, when I became aware of him and his role in the org. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 03:11 AM) White Sox "family" and loyalty, as usual. Bell and Paddy came from other organizations. They have their system-wide pitching philosophy, and all those guys serve as advisors to the front office like JR Perdew. If you read about his background, it's really fascinating. http://dashboard.mlblogs.com/tag/j-r-perdew/ Reminds me a lot of Jeff Bannister. Im aware of both Paddy and Bell, I was a big fan of the Paddy signing and I love what the Sox have been doing internationally. I hope Todd Severson can install a hitting philosophy throughout the organization, but that seems to be taking place as he holds the camps every offseason and is pretty hands on during instructs. It is said that Hahn is a pretty well connected guy throughout MLB, and if that is the case I would love to see him bring in some more people from the outside and give some guys who are already in the org bigger roles, like Nick Capra for example. There was one scout in particular that I was upset that the Sox didn't pursue and that was Logan White, who was the Dodgers' scouting director. He handled both the draft and INTL market for the Dodgers and he brought in Kershaw, Puig, Kemp, Seager, Ryu, Eithier, Pederson, Russell, Carlos Santana etc. He is highly respected in baseball circles. To my understanding, White and Coletti got into an argument over the lack of growth in the minor leagues, specifically because of guys like Zach Lee not developing quickly. So White had a lot of his duties stricken from him, Coletti would go on to lose his job a year or two later and the Dodgers have one of the best farms in all of baseball thanks to White, who is now a special assistant to the GM in San Diego. I followed the situation on MLBTR, hoping to see the Sox mentioned and they never pursued him (from what I was able to gather through MLBTR and True Blue.) Yes this is one instance, and the Sox have gone outside to nab Paddy and Bell, but I want to see more new blood and I really want Hahn to really make the FO his own.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 09:05 AM) Why? Are you not happy with Hahn's tenure? I couldn't be happier with Hahn, but I really want to see him make the FO his own.
  16. One thing that I'm kinda disappointed about is the lack of turnover in the FO, when Hahn was promoted to GM, I expected him to bring in some new blood along with him to help run the operation. Maybe the promotion of Haber is a sign of things to come.
  17. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94702 Sons of b****es

  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) No worries on Danish. He's 20, has yet to pitch in AA ( though he will this year) and its early in ST. The only expectations I have of Danish at this point is to take the things he learns in ST with him to Birmingham when the season starts. Exactly
  20. I thought that Tyler Danish did pretty solid, he bounced back after the two walks to get a nice double play
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) I met him at SoxFest. Very nice guy and really just another version of Hahn in terms of background, the way he carries himself and even the way he dresses. This was only a matter of time and I am sure he'll be sought after by other organizations in time. I read that he's big into analytics, so could the sox be more inclined to use sabremetrics?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Nothing linking White Sox to one of the top guys http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/july-2nd-pl...ing-into-focus/ Beat me to it. Im sure the Sox have some deals in place, maybe he responds to my comment. Also the Sox can trade for an additional, $1,721,500 in bonus allotment, whcih would bring their total to $5,164,500.
  23. What does this mean for Buddy Bell?
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Like Rob did with second base, we now take a look at the 5-player field for backup catcher: Soto, Brantly, Kottaras, Nieto and Smith. Who does SoxTalk think wins the job? Probably more to the point, who is most likely if for some reason it isn't Soto? Im rooting for Brantly and Kottaras. It would be beneficial to have another left handed bat on the bench.
