  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) my problem, not with the players you mention, but I really need to hear more from the sox brass. I don't know if they will go positional player or pitching. my list still haven't change. hitting Rodgers ss, Ian Happ and DJ Stewart. Pitching I like Kirby I also like a coutrey michalczewskiree of HS'ers and 2 college arms. with the new CBA, comp rounds can be traded, right? Hitting or pitching doesnt matter, they need to draft the best player available and players with high ceilings, but for the sake of this discussion lets. The Sox have a solid group of young starting pitchers down on the farm in Rodon, Adams, Danish, Montas and Martinez, but their core of position players in Hawkins, Adolfo, Anderson, and Michalczewski are behind. I think the Sox biggest organizational need are position players. Most of the guys that they have on the field are just stop gaps or black holes and will not be on the next contending sox team.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Trade Quintana for a Top 50 prospect At least 2, lets get it right bro.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) You know, if you are going to insult SoxPride and his ideas, the least thing you could do is come up with something better than this when asked to show off your own foolproof plan. Make Smart Decisions... Meaning dont trade away prospects, especially for horrible contracts. Acquire more ML ready prospects. Sign pitching depth in both the bullpen and the rotation. (Especially guys that I can flip at the deadline for prospects a la the Cubs.) Put everyone of value on the block to see what offers are out there. Just make smart baseball and fiancial decisions. And who replied with a +1, this isn't Reddit.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) I don't think Danks is ship-out able during the season. The only way it works is if we take some bad contract back and that doesn't usually happen in the middle of the year. I can't recall a comparable example. I did wonder a couple weeks ago whether Danks to the Bullpen in something like the closer's role could make some sense as an option but no one seemed to agree with me. That's wouldn't work, he has not strikeout stuff and doesn't have the velocity to be the closer.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) Lol, I'm not sure I agree with all of it, but I thought it was a pretty reasonable set of ideas at fairly realistic costs. Assuming rational cost, what is your plan that is so drastically different than this? Make smart decisions.

Plus why would you trade prospects, especially 3 of your best prospects to acquire a guy who's often injured and has a bad contract. The dude is owed over $55 million over the next three years. Making that stupid trade you suggested just s***s on all the work the team has done during this rebuild and it also go against the permaneters that Rick Hahn has set for the team when he became GM. No trading away young talent, especially young talent for past their prime veterans and no bad contracts.
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Signings: 1B Adam LaRoche 2 years/20 million UTIl Emilio Bonifacio 2 years/10 million RP Luke Hochever 1 year/3 million SP Jake Peavy 1 year/10 million Trades: Sox acquire RP Brandon Maurer from the Mariners for OF Dayan Viciedo Sox acquire OF Carlos Gonzalez and RP Rex Brothers from the Rockies for SP Chris Beck, 2B Micah Johnson, SP Francellis Montas, OF Courtney Hawkins Sox trade SP John Danks to the Marlins for SP Austin Brice Release/Let Go RP Ronald Belisario RP Matt Lindstrom SP Felipe Paulino 1B Paul Konerko (Retirement) DFA RP Frank De Los Santos RP Taylor Thompson RP Raul Fernandez Line Up CF Adam Eaton SS Alexei Ramirez 1B Jose Abreu LF Carlos Gonzalez RF Avisail Garcia DH Adam LaRoche 3B Conor Gillaspie 2B Marcus Semien C Tyler Flowers Rotation SP Chris Sale SP Jose Quintana SP Jake Peavy SP Hector Noesi SP Chris Bassitt Bullpen RP Scott Carroll (long relief) RP Jake Petricka RP Zach Putnam RP Brandon Maurer/Luke Hochever RP Rex Brothers RP Erik Surkamp RP Daniel Webb Bench C Josh Phegley 2B/SS Carlos Sanchez OF Jordan Danks UTIL Emilio Bonifacio Thoughts? Thank God you are not the GM, and you don't want Cargo the millionth f***ing time, he makes no sense for the Sox and he is the definition of a bad contract. He's not even a guy you could buy low on and take a risk since the contract is so big.
  8. I would sign some pitching depth this offseason (Brandon McCarthy/Justin Masterson), and have Rodon start the year in AAA for some fine tuning, and I would call him up during either June and July. Hopefully he gets around 120 IP in the majors.
  9. I would love it if the Sox drafted both Kyle Tucker and Ryan Johnson, who I think goes in round 2 at the moment.
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) So since I never really trust or respect B/R as a baseball source, I wanted to find out who Mike Rosenbaum was, like to see if maybe he came over from a reputable place at least. Well upon clicking his bio, I found this nugget, which may explain these surprisingly optimistic rankings of Anderson and Micah.... "Born and raised in Chicago, Mike is a White Sox fan who now resides in Tarrytown, New York." The guy is a pretty good writer and has good write ups on prospects, he does his prospect list pre season, mid season and after the season, and writes ton of articles during the season. I think he was a sox farmhand as well.
  11. Yes the BA or publication awards do not matter, but the farm system still needs some improving. The farm system is on the way up for sure, the Sox have been drafting pretty well since 2012 (When the CBA came into affect) and they have been consistently bringing in solid players from LA since they hired Marco Paddy. They may be ranked in the lower third of the ranking still, but they have made major strides but you have to remember that its going to take a few years for these guys to rise through the system. So in a year or two they might be ranked in the top ten or fifteen. The Sox could flip some of their major league assets for prospects during the offseason and that could potentially bring in some major prospects into the fold.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 05:46 AM) He was also the guy that was adamant on Mitchell and Alex Jackson over Rodon (although to be fair, time will tell on that one). Like any scout, he ain't perfect. I think Alex Jackson could be better than Rodon, he's gonna be a fast rise through the farm.
  13. BR is good at reporting, analyzing and covering every sport but baseball. I do like their prospect section however.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) Like I said in the post you quoted, I'm not even sure I would support it, I'm just saying we DO have the ammo, and there's an argument to be made that the combination of our financial flexibility and his backloaded contract will lower the size of his market and thus his ultimate price. He's gonna make: 2015: $16 million 2016: $17 million 2017: $20 million That's a bad contract and he's gonna be 29 when the season starts.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) The Rockies aren't going to give him away. That is pretty apparent. So it will take something more than halfway decent to get him. Exactly my point. Not only is he often injured, a terrible contract and what not. If you want the Sox to get him, they would have to trade away a package of some of their best prospects, which makes sense considering that they have been trying to rebuild the farm system up for the past few years. And the Rox would probably want Adams and Montas, and another prospect. That's a horrible deal for the Sox.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:33 PM) RE: CarGo -- because without those warts, he wouldn't be available at all. The high money is what limits his market, and our low payroll gives us a chance to play there -- to overpay on a contract like that using the equity that Sale/Quintana/Abreu's contracts have bought us and still end up breaking even from a team salary/production standpoint. His relatively young age and the nature of his injury history alos means he comes with considerable upside, if you assume a fully healthy year is a possibility. Given the Rockies change in leadership, a change in "direction" for them is more likely than ever, making it more likley that CarGo is on the block. I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on the CarGo train necessarily, but there's a logical argument to be made, certainly. How do you get CarGo?
  17. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) Eaton is the only one I could see as likely. Yeah Eaton is the only guy that I would consider for an extension, I would say Garcia but he needs to stay healthy.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:34 PM) It'll be interesting to see where he goes. That same guy that tweeted about the Sox and Tomas said that Abreu is pushing the front office to sign him. The tweet is in his replies to another person. Of course he does, they're countrymen. No don't know much about him and I am pretty invested in the INTL side of things, but I don't want him because the contract is going to be pretty big I imagine.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) If Sox do manage to get Tomas and stick him in LF, I think adding Cargo would be even more beneficial because it gives you another OF that could spell Garcia or Tomas to fill in at DH, and the lefty bat we are looking for. CF Eaton SS Ramirez 1B Abreu DH Gonzalez LF Tomas RF Garcia 3B Gillaspie 2B Semien C Flowers That's a pretty damn good line up. I think Tomas is going to San Diego
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) I must give you credit Joshua. I actually liked the idea of CarGo until you brought up his splits, then I went to look them up and noticed his salary for the next three years, I actually said out loud "f*** THAT!". Bad contract, bad knees, and bad hitter away from Coors
  21. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) After taking into account CarGo's splits, injuries, and the fact he's owed 53M over the next three years, I don't get why people continue to bring up his name. Can someone offer a rational explanation please. Shields is another name that gets brought up and yet makes no sense given his age and length of contract he will get. Maeda is another guy I wouldn't get my hopes up for. I'm really hoping the Sox don't waste their time on him. PREACH
  22. Micker Adolfo DOB: 9/11/1996 Height: 6'3 Weight: 200lbs Postion: OF Bats: Rights Throws: Right Signed: July 2nd, 2013 Scouting Report: When he signed for $1.6 million, Adolfo generated a lot of buzz. First because he was one of the top international prospects and any team would be happy to have him. Second, but maybe more importantly, it signaled that the White Sox were not going to be afraid to sign young international players to big money bonuses. He was ranked as the No. 2 prospect during the July 2 opening of the international signing period for players at least 16 years old by MLB.com. Baseball America ranked him No. 9. Adolfo was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and, as a result, speaks fluent English so his transition to playing ball and living in the U.S. shouldn't be as steep as it is with most foreign players. He moved to the Dominican Republic at age 14, making him eligible for the international signing period. He is a good athlete with the ability to play a solid right field with a good arm, but his best tool is his power. He has big time power potential, but the question is whether he can make enough contact to make it matter. Adolfo made his professional debut with the new Arizona White Sox in 2014. - Future Sox
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) The Cardinals would argue those homegrown players all come into the system knowing if they perform well, they'll be promoted (and promoted together, usually)...that the Cardinals Way is inculcated from the very beginning...that all the prospects buy into the system, and the expectations of joining a "winning" organization where nothing short of the World Series is now the expectation, etc. They can watch examples like Wacha and Marco Gonzalez quickly progress through the system and know they can follow a similar path...or even examples where they're trading older veterans like Freese/Craig to create additional playing time for Wong, Grichuk, Adams, Tavares, etc. This cohesiveness is something (besides the lack of offensive players) the White Sox have never developed, and I think a lot of it's simply due to the KW "riverboat gambling" style of throwing a lot of talented acquisitions together and HOPING that everything clicks on a yearly basis. Then you look at almost every single player from our system having issues with strikeouts, execution offensively and defensively, baserunning...sloppy fielding mistakes, etc. That doesn't happen as often with the Cardinals (Top 3 with defensive runs saved as a team) or Giants, when you compare them defensively to the White Sox, it's a futile exercise to find any players other than Eaton/Ramirez that could hold their own on those two teams as a defender. Couldn't agree more. But I think that we're starting to see a philosophy that is being enforced in the lower levels of the farm when it comes from a offensive standpoint and approach, and in my opinion I think that started when Todd Severson was hired as the hitting coach. I remember reading that one of the first things he did after he was hired was that he held a week long hitting camp for the younger prospects like Hawkins, Trey M., Micker, Anderson, etc. and together they established an approach and worked on their swings. You can really see what a difference his teachings made with Courtney Hawkins ( ), the difference in his swing is undeniable. And we have a well established pitching philosophy that comes from Dom Cooper. The Sox have their offensive approach and pitching philosophy and over the years you're going to see those ideas trickled through the system and reach their way back to the majors.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) another name to think about is, and I know it is crazy, is Adams last yr 2 rounder. he just might ' fly thru the system. I think that if I had to bet on one prospect quickly rising through the system I would pick Adams and I would not surprised at all if that actually was the case.
