  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) the point is not to ask for too much in order to get the deal done. Ackley is the player that will be needed to be move if sea takes DV Always try to maximize your return and I would rather have Ackley than a bullpen arm, especially since the Sox are trying to compete. The guy fills a ton of needs.
  2. Ackley is similar to Viciedo, both failed to meet expectations (Viciedo's a failed prospect and Ackley was supposed to be the savior of the Mariners.) and a change of scenery could do both them justice. Ackley is a better defensive player than Viciedo, he's good on the base baths and he's a left handed bat and he allows the Sox to be as athletic as possible. He also strikes out 32 times less
  3. I heard that Myers name is being floated around. That would be a get but the Sox would no doubt have to give up some prizes prospect of their own.
  4. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:14 AM) No reason to not go over projected slot on the 1st round pick, which the sox have been willing to do more recently I think that they lost the money tied to the second round pick, so their pool is smaller. I have my fingers crossed that Brendon Rodgers falls to them.
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:38 AM) Under team control for three more years. His contract isn't bad, either. $12MM in 2015, $12.5MM in 2016, and a $13MM team option in 2017. Your draft strategy should and always be to take the best player available.
  6. Ackley can also play second, in addition to left field.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 06:59 AM) If this team is seriously going to compete, they cannot have a left fielder with little power and a .300 OBP. Ackley is not an upgrade. Next? QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:17 AM) but i like him for other reasons, which makes this an ideal trade. second to Bruce. he bats #2 and if injury to Eaton, will lead off. Both Kenny and Hahn have said that they want the team to be as athletic as possible and Ackley allows that. He's a good runner, a solid defender (From what I have seen, I need to check the metrics on the glove but he can't be worst than Viciedo.) and another left handed bat. His offensive numbers should improve in a better ballpark and a better lineup.
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:02 AM) This is a very important draft for us. The samardzija deal didn't kill us but did tap into our depth a bit. With our payroll near maxed, need to keep influxing young affordable players into the major league team We also lost a second round pick.
  9. I know it's a long shot but I would love for the Sox to get back Dustin Ackley in any deal with Seattle. He could be a good left fielder for the Sox, and he wouldn't break the bank. Imagine this line up: Eaton - CF (L) Ramirez - SS Abreu - DH LaRoche - 1B (L) Garcia - RF Gillapse -3B (L) Ackley - LF (L) Flowers - C Johnson - 2B (L) What do you think?
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I'm glad we signed him, but I know I'm not alone in saying it's a shame Bellisario won't be given another chance. I lost 20 pounds last season when he came out of the pen. GIFSoup I want them to bring back Belisario as a MR, the dude has potential and he throws heat. He is going to be a good reliever.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Refresh my memory on Nate, isn't he supposed to be out some of this upcoming season? What's his deal again? He may be out the first half coming back from TJ. When was his operation, again?
  12. CL - Robertson SU - Petricka SU - Duke (L) MR - Garcia (L) *9.9K/9IP in MiLB MR - Webb MR - Cleto LR - Rienzo The Sox are attached to Luke Gregerson, who's a Chicago native.
  13. Should the Sox go after Syndergaard, after acquiring Shark and Robertson because it looks like the team is looking to compete? Remember that Shark is going to test FA and if that happens then he might be out of the Sox's price range. Syndergaard gives them a long term piece to add to the core. He is a flamethrower and a presence on the mound with more than a feel to pitch. Do you engage in trade talks with the Mets?
  14. I think that one of the biggest reasons that contributed to the Sox horrible bullpen, was the fact that everyone was pitching in roles that they were not suited for. A big reason for that was that Nate Jones, who was supposed to be the closer, was lost to TJ. I think that it's best to build a bullpen from the back going forward, knowing who your closer is going to be. So I ask you who is going to fill what role in the bullpen?
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:08 AM) Someone may have already mentioned this, but the Sox surrender their 2nd RD pick for Robertson, which means they may be more inclined to go after another guy with a pick attached. Maybe some Melky action? They did in Shark, who in the event that he doesn't resign with the Sox, the team will get an extra pick, assuming the team gives him a QO.
  16. Danks is going to have a good year this year. I would try trading him at the break.

  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) There, I said it. He's a perfect fit for our LF vacancy, and we still need a left handed bat, and he's still got two-years of control pre-free agency. I feel like we could get him without touching the top tier of our prospects. I would give Montas for him if I had to, though I'd try to aim lower. Anyone think there's any chance we're the #mysteryteam? http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...;position=1B/OF You're going to give up one of the top pitching prospects in the system who projects as both a solid starter and closer for a stop gap LF? That's a bad move.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 08:31 AM) and oak made it to the playoff. but with that, oak always seems to flip their players. the sox have a great core to build from, JR need to spend a little more. again, i am not talking Bos, Yanks, or even Dodgers salary. They do because they can no longer afford them, if Oakland had a bigger payroll with Beane as their GM they would be able to keep said players. Yet it's amazing that every year with a payroll around $38-$45m that they're consistently on the better teams and one of best organizations in baseball.
  21. Does Brandon Moss make sense? Put him in LF, bats left but he's more than a power hitter than a contact guy.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) That's a pitiful payroll for a large market team. If that's correct and if it's mandated, it finally makes sense why the Sox would even entertain trading scarce prospects for 1 year players in areas of secondary need (although I still wouldn't do it). What's wrong with a $92M payroll. You don't have to shell out a large payroll to put a good team on the field, look at the Oakland, Tampa Bay and Kansas City.
  23. What prospects would be off limits to Oakland in trade talks concerning Smardjiza. Personally, I wouldn't trade or offer any of the top prospects (Guys like Anderson, Montas, Danish, Adolfo, and Martinez (All the 2014 guys aren't eligible to be traded yet if I remember correctly.)) and I would let Oakland pick two mid level guys. Preferably I would give them Micah Johnson, Chris Beck and I would cover some of Billy Butler's 2015 salary.
  24. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 02:13 AM) Why would they want Anderson if they have their top prospect of a SS who is going to be ready to come up around the same time as Anderson. Anderson is a lot to give up for a 1 year rental PLUS other prospects? No thanks. The A's can keep their 3rd starter who will get paid Ace money in 1 year. I'll make a call to Cinci about thee starters or sign Masterson. I would trade Micah Johnson, Chris Beck and cash. I honk that's fair for a one year rental presumably.
  25. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 01:38 AM) It would suck giving up Anderson. But, with that said, most of our prospects traded for proven pitchers (the past decade or so) didn't amount to much of anything outside of Gio Gonzalez IIRC. This is not a smart school of thought. That's has nothing to do with how good the prospects were, and a lot of that is on the teams that traded for them and how they developed them.
