Sox Acquire Yency Almonte (as PTBNL in Gordon Beckham Trade)
Boopa1219 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's a better prospect than I thought they were going to get. He's still young and the Sox can mold him into a solid player. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Nice guy, though. In the Reinsdorf Ring of Loyalty as Flavum so eloquently put it. Will be tough to move out, but moving him at least completely away from personnel would be nice. He's a good guy do deal with the media but I do not want him to have anything to do with making baseball decisions. I think that the Sox should promote Jeremey Haber, who is Hahn's right hand man and assistant to Ast. GM and Bell should be a special assistant like Thome.

I speak for all White Sox fans when I say that, I want Bell out of the FO.

Good writeup guys, I enjoy reading your stuff

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) Nationals at both the major and minor league level.... You're right, I forgot about them. I would put them first and the Sox second, but I think the Sox might have more depth in the minors than Washington.

I love this move. Like a lot of people I was disappointed by the lack of stolen bases last year, it seems like the Sox are looking to start being a team that manufactures runs as opposed to focusing solely on the home run. They also starting to focus more on contact as opposed to power. The team figures to be more exciting on the base paths. I really like this move by the Sox.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) If he's less bulky, he's bound to be better in the field overall. Good news. I heard that he lost some weight and got into better shape which is great news for the Sox. However with that being said, I do not think that Avi's long term future is in the OF. I think that he should be playing first base, I know that the Sox signed LaRoche but once his contract expires after the 2016 season, I would like to see Avi take over first.

For Jeff Hoffman and another prospect, I would absolutely let Kenny walk. Hoffman would be a huge addition to the farm and you could argue that he has a higher ceiling than Rodon. Also bringing Hoffman into the fold would give the Sox the best collection of pitching in all of baseball (Majors + Minors).

Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) Disappointed? Really? After this winter, that is what you got? Sounds like the kid who got the five big things he asked for at Christmas who is crying that they didn't get #6 on their list. Hahn and the White Sox knocked it out of the park this winter. Between last year and this year they have moved the rebuild up at least one year, if not two. Even if they don't win this year, they have set themselves up with a really nice window to be contenders, and they didn't hurt the future to do it. This off-season has been beyond my wildest dreams, and I couldn't be more happy about it. Completely agree with this, how can you be disappointed? I don't understand that. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) according to mlb rumors Alexi medical rpts that his should doesn't look good. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ I'll bet that same American League exec is going to bid on him, it's probably just some disinformation.

This has been a perfect offseason but I might have signed Andrew Miller over David Robertson because he fits that mold of being a traditional closer with the high velocity more than Roberston who tops out at 94.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 21m21 minutes ago White Sox hold hitters minicamp this week. Tim Anderson, Keon Barnum, Matt Davidson, Adam Eaton, Courtney Hawkins, Micah Johnson are there. It seems like this is becoming a tradition for the Sox and Todd Severson, which is good. The best organizations in baseball stress uniformity across their farm systems. What you teach in the DSL are the same things being reinforced in the majors. Another reason went I'm glad to beat this is that this minicamp paid dividends all those who attended, especially for Courtney Hawkins. It's also cool to see Adam Eaton there, he's going to have a huge year.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) If you'd rather have a 2nd and 3rd round pick over David Robertson and Melky Cabrera, then I believe you are very wrong. I mean, look at this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?q...ype=junreg& Are you really going to tell me that having Melky Cabrera, a very good baseball player signed to a very fair contract, is a worse investment choice than bringing in a player of that caliber? Saying that I am wrong is a stupid thing to say, I just diagree with you. If you're confident in your system and your player development process then you shoul feel confident in your team's ability to develop those picks into solid players. The more draft picks you have, the greater influx of talent that enters the system, the more players you develop into major league caliber players and more you don't have to go out and sign players to big contacts and the flexibility you have as an organization. Look at the Cardinals.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) i always have a horrible time trying to think of titles, so i am going here, with this one. i have a series of questions that i find confusing in this past week after the signing of Melky. Granted that Sox need to acquire bench players but i am not counting on that position now. First question, what is the profile of C. Rodon as a pitcher, is he a #1 type front end pitcher, a #3 kind of pitcher has streaks of a #1 but at times pitches like a #4. Or is he the backend of the rotation. now i am not going to compare it to the sox rotation but to the avg team rotation. this will lead me to more of the other series of questions i have. pls put up with this. Rodon in my opinion profiles more as a very solid number 2 starter, if he's a number one on your staff its not the worst thing to hapoen to you.

A nice mid season addition.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 02:54 AM) Yeah third round picks don't usually turn into much. I'd rather see them good now. Give me the pick, I would rather hsve a constant stream of amateur talent going through my system.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Kiley McDaniel on the 2015 international period and beyond. Worth a read for those interested in this stuff. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-interna...ls-dont-matter/ There needs to be a harsher penalty in order to stop teams from doing this. I know they'll have to wait for the new CBA, but the commissioner needs to put a foot down. I think that if a team goes over their bonus pool by more than 20% that they would forfeit their INTL bonus pool the following year (That money would be redistributed across the teams) and get their INTL pool the year after that cut in half (the money would be redistributed across the teams).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) If the Sox are going to burn prospects in a trade, why not make a bid for Myers? He is a stud controlled for 5 more seasons. It's a core piece you could only hope guys like Anderson and for that matter A. Garcia turn out to be. I would rather have Myers than Garcia any day of the week.
