  1. Would not surprise me if there were quite a lot of under the table conversations happening. Give me the frenzy already!
  2. And here is where we need both sides to split the difference. Both get to say they won certain things. Sign on the dotted line, lift the lockout, and get back to work.
  3. You are correct, but it all feels like posturing when they follow it up with more final offers. It’s hard for me to take ownership seriously w/o a heavy dose of cynicism.
  4. Seems like a fair & rational compromise. Why did we have to go through another deadline charade??
  5. I still think their feigning at urgency is about getting expanded playoffs this season. Owners don’t care about 162, but they players do and want those checks + service time. I’d imagine MLB would rather not pay for games that don’t happen nor grant service time for the same.
  6. Right? I know memories are short and what is time anymore, but some of us remember the last few “final” offers a very short time ago. Maybe the final Final FINAL offer will do it? IDK.
  7. Anything longer than a week maybe and fitting 162 in becomes challenging. I really hope there is a continued sense of urgency to hammer things out ASAP. No more stalling and feet dragging, just get it done.
  8. I don’t think Manfred is going anywhere unfortunately. I just think it’s really obvious that baseball would be better off with a strong commissioner and not a slimy shill who hates the game itself as much as the owners do.
  9. Assuming there aren’t other minor hang ups or gaps that haven’t been heavily reported out, I would agree. The draft seems to be a bigger sticking point than I thought it would be, but if they can agree to hammer it out over the season while agreeing on the rest would could potentially have a deal in the very near future.
  10. He’s about as helpful as a cardboard cutout. The rest I just can’t agree with. I hope he’s jettisoned with a quickness once the ink is dry on a new CBA. Yes he works for the owners and his goals are to line their coffers and steer things in their favour, but he’s been pretty terrible for the game itself. The infighting amongst ownership speaks to his ineffectual leadership and the lockout has failed miserably in achieving ownership’s stated goals. He deserves nothing but to fade into obscurity come Opening Day.
  11. Death somehow seems more likely at this stage?
