The April Sox are back
Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me. I reserve judgment a little while longer if you please. Nice that they finally scored some runs while Q was pitching. Mark

Who will represent the Sox at the ASG?
It'll be Chris Sale and Chris and Sale and Sale, Chris. That's all folks. Mark

This Date In Sox History Historic Audio...
1977 was another magical season, the "South Side Hitmen" were in the full flower of their ability, hammering and bashing baseball's to the farthest distances of stadiums around the league. Jim Spencer had already had a memorable game on May 14 when he drove in eight RBI's as the Sox blitzed Cleveland 18-2 in a game that started at 10:30 in the morning. Spencer liked that so much he decided to do it again. It's July 2, 1977, the Sox are on their way to a four game sweep of the Twins and taking first place in the division. This Saturday game was won by the Sox 13-8. Spencer would drive in eight RBI's again becoming the only Sox player to do that twice let alone in the same year. Jim had a grand slam, a three run homer and an RBI hit. This is the grand slam off Minnesota's Bill Butler. It came in the fourth inning and was the Sox first hit of the afternoon. This Date In Sox History Historic Audio...
1990 was a magical, amazing season for the White Sox. The team, picked for last, shocked the baseball world by winning 94 games. And the way they won some games left you realizing the "baseball gods" were smiling on the team. They won a game when a ball thrown hit Ron Kittle on the hip off first base and bounced away. They won when Lance McCullers of the Yankees threw a wild pitch with Lance Johnson on third, they won when Carlton Fisk was hit in the middle of his back by a curve ball which forced in a run...but without question the most bizarre way to win came on July 1, 1990. It was the 80th anniversary of the opening of Comiskey Park. The Yankees Andy Hawkins tossed a no-hitter...AND LOST THE GAME! The Sox won 4-0 as Yankee outfielders dropped two fly balls in the eight inning to score all four runs. Unbelievable. Here is the audio of the first error, the big one as Robin Ventura's fly ball with the bases loaded was booted by Jim Leyritz a third baseman playing left field. Announcer is Wayne Hagin. 07/02 GDT Sox at Astros
That my friends was the definition of "winning ugly..." 41 wins, halfway to a winning season! WOO HOO! (Hey at least that would be something...) Mark

Carlos Sanchez up. Davidson to DL.
Davidson had a screw inserted into the foot today. Will be re-evaluated in two weeks then the Sox will have a better idea how long he'll be out. And I think Smith has only played in one game in Charlotte since the injury. Mark

July 1st, 2016 - Chicago White Sox vs. Huston Astros - 7:10
I figure when all is said and done 80-82. Just hope they don't get swept this weekend. Mark

White Sox winner!
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Nope. It goes back to like 1965...I think that's what they said during the broadcast. First Kevan Smith, now Davidson? Weird anti-Herm Schneider going ons this year. Webb out for the year, Petricka out for the year, Jackson injured. Still doesn't amount to the injury losses other teams have faced (and are facing), though. Don't forget Coats couldn't finish his first game either because of the collision. Regarding the injuries it's actually worse for the Sox because they have little to no depth and the minor league call up's have been "lacking" to put it mildly. Mark

White Sox winner!
By the way I think the Sox have now hit 14 consecutive solo home runs. Nice to get the win. Bad news about Davidson. The baseball gods are saying again it's not your season. Mark

Matt Davidson getting called up
Unbelievable. Only the White Sox friends and neighbors. Mark

Matt Davidson getting called up
Hope the kid does well and then they can s***can Garcia. We'll see. Mark

That's a white sox winner???
Nice to see the offense show up. Somehow Shields only gave up one run despite eight hits and a walk in seven innings. That ninth inning was just ugly, most of those runs were unearned though. One final thought, Purke sucks. Mark

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) Wow, I had a fan? I'm just trying to get people to realize it is not KW. No matter how much people want to lame one person on whom they can focus all of their ager and frustration, it just isn't true. Keep your head in the sand if you want but you are focusing on much on one person. Oh I agree it is a systemic organizational problem. Not just one individual, however I'm convinced Kenny still has a large say in things and we've seen what his M.O. has been for 15 years (i.e. "go for it" every year, trade minor leaguers, bring in vets generally on the downside of their careers, continually trying to make the "big splash" for some reason) Mark

QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) So what was a three year window has rapidly became a year and a half window. We all know this team isn't doing s*** this year, so it could probably be considered a 1 year window. Others may be more optimistic, but I'm assuming they will be s*** again next year. Sooo I'm gonna go ahead and consider said window closed. This organization sucks Personally I think Kenny just talked off the cuff in an effort to deflect the criticism the organization was taking after "winning" the off season then falling flat on their faces to start 2015. I honestly don't know if there really is such a thing since the organization has been very quiet about this. Mark

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/29/2016, Shields vs Nolasco, 7:
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) Why is Jason Coats on the team? I mean really? Maybe he's terrible. Maybe he's not. he's had like 20 plate appearances. Shuck and Garcia have had years worth of at-bats. Garcia has a .656 OPS and a wRc+ of 76. Shuck is even worse with a .571 and 47 wRc+. It's ridiculous. I feel your pain but what other options do they have? The fact that ALL of the guys you mentioned as actually on the big league roster shows how bereft of talent the organization really is doesn't it? This three years after they started cutting out the deadwood in 2013. Mark

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I think it's sensible to put at least Robertson out there. We have an outside chance of making the playoffs but many teams in front of us and the inability to win divisional games. Having a resource of Robertson's caliber for a .500 team is not critical. He's saved 20 of our 77 games. He's much more valuable to a playoff-bound team. Putnam and Jones both have better numbers than Robertson and could most likely cover the 9th. I'd love to see if they could get a couple of pieces for Robertson now and if they actually make the unlikely climb back into the race, maybe make a splash and get someone else at the deadline or maybe turn to someone like Carson Fulmer like they did with Bobby Jenks in 05'. But in all likelihood, if we were to climb back into the race by then, it would be because Putnam and Jones were getting the job done, so we might not have to change anything! Putnam though is probably done for the year. Mark

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Unbelievable........ PTATC: Don't know if you know this but in fact it was Kenny who talked to the mainstream media last June about the "three year window / plan." Until then nobody had heard much if anything along those lines. Green is not making something up here, Kenny did say this. Mark

Crain's Business Story on Attendence...
You have to give JR credit, he's got the best stadium lease agreement in baseball: http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/201...ough-the-summer Now as to why the Sox don't have a much higher payroll and a better talent level given the stadium circumstances, that's a question I can't answer. Mark

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/28/2016
In his last nine starts Quintana has received nine runs of support. Seven losses and two no decisions in that span. And I didn't realize the Sox have now lost 16 of their last 19 divisional games. That's why to me any talk of "going for it" and trading any more minor league players is sheer stupidity or sheer stubbornness. This team isn't going anywhere because they can't beat teams in their division who apparently have them scouted to a tee. Mark

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) The comedy routine is out on the field at 35th and Shields but it is a dark comedy lead by an incompetent manager and an in over his head gm. A third of the supporting cast are bit actors. Only one major attraction and he is only available every 5 days. A lot of truth in that comment in my opinion. Mark

Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins 6/28/2016
Can't say I'm surprised after all Q was pitching but to get shut out especially by a mediocre starter with ZERO wins and an ERA of over five is really, really embarrassing. Mark

But the flip side of that is how many runs will he allow and cost games because of his bad defense? Mark

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) We have to be careful because this is the type of deal people throw stones at if it doesn't pan out. Getting those 2 would likely cost us several pieces of our farm system. So now, Hahn needs to save his job by making a trade that everyone will accuse him of screwing up because Reddick and Vogt are vets?? Our fan base needs to pull on the same end of the rope in what they rake our management over the coals for. DO we want youth or do we want vets? The proven vet trades haven't worked out, but it seems like all the people who throw stones at management for making such deals, are the same ones calling for them to be made to save the guy's job! Hahn was a genius to land Samardzija--exactly the RHP starter that we needed--then Holy CRAP...Hahn is an idiot for trading pieces of our farm system to get a scrub like Samardzija. Hahn needs to find a way to land a proven starter like James Shields if he wants to save his job--then--we need to FIRE Hahn because he brings in losers like James Shields! You can see it...Finally...Hahn makes a great deal to land Reddick and Vogt!!! Just what we needed!!! Then Vogt hits the DL the same week Reddick goes into a 3-25 slump and the masses prepare for a stoning and life without Carson Fulmer. Post has a lot of truth in it, in my opinion. That's what happens though when the organizational philosophy seems to be muddled and fans generally have no idea if the team is "rebuilding," "going for it" and so forth. In addition the Sox themselves have never really seemed willing to go all in, as in spend a tremendous amount of money on the farm system or raising the payroll high enough to get the top free agents when they become available. They are caught between the proverbial "rock and a hard place..." and that filters down to the fan base. Mark
