This Date In Sox History Historic Audio...
A little out of sequence chronologically and I apologize... July 7, 1982. It was the coming out party for Sox outfielder Harold Baines. In a game in Chicago against the Tigers, Baines blasted three home runs in the Sox 7-0 win. One of his blasts was a grand slam. He’d drive in six of the Sox seven runs. Later that week at Toronto in a 16-7 win, he’d hammer two more home runs including a second grand slam and knock in five more RBI’s. No wonder he was named A.L. Player of the Week! Announcers are Early Wynn, Joe McConnell, Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Don Drysdale. Courtesy: WFLD-TV. It still is the longest game ever played at U.S. Cellular Field. It's July 9, 2006 and the white hot White Sox are taking on Boston. Tadahito Iguchi’s single in the last of the 19th inning gave the White Sox a dramatic 6-5 win in this one. Jermaine Dye’s two out, ninth inning home run tied the game at three. Both teams scored two runs in the 11th and the score stayed that way until the 19th. The game took 6:19 minutes. It also appeared to take something out of the World Champions...the White Sox weren’t the same the rest of the season. Announcers are Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Darrin Jackson. Comparing the 2016 team at the ASB vs 2015
Odds are long this team could make the playoffs. Don't trade anything more. Foolish endeavor. Mark

Quintana an All-Star
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) The Sox aren't trading Quintana in the middle of a playoff race A playoff race they have very little chance of winning in my opinion. Mark

**7/10 Game Thread: White Sox vs Braves**
This weekend is precisely why I think it would be foolish for the front office to "go for it" and trade more potential future assets (off the major league roster or the minor leagues)on the slim chance they can somehow grab the second wild card spot. You lose two of three AT HOME to the worst team in baseball. The only consistent thing about the White Sox is their frustratingly inconsistency. Still shaking my head over this weekend. Now add in the fact they are unable to beat Cleveland, Kansas City or Detroit on a regular basis and you see "going for it" is a fool's errand. Mark

Countdown to the Trade Deadline..
Personally I hope the Sox do not trade any more potential future assets for a longshot chance of making the playoffs. The manager still makes far to many questionable decisions (latest example using Beck in a two run game Friday night), the lineup still has a lot of holes and the pitching is thing along with a thin bench and very little help in the minors. Anything is possible but as I said the odds are very long. I wouldn't do it but the Sox probably will knowing the Sox. Mark

David Robertson didn't pitch in a 1 run save situation
And the injuries keep piling up. Big ones and small ones. Mark
-
And that's a White Sox winner !
Hopefully they can win the series tomorrow then the front office can reassess things. Mark

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Nice to see that kind of pitching out of one of the backend guys in the rotation. Mark

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) How many teams have 3 or more catchers in their organization? Not specifically referring to the catching position as well you know given the players that I listed. Still numerous holes in this lineup at multiple spots and the minor leagues continue to provide little to no help. Mark

07/05 GDT Yanks at Sox
Chase Headley...the new Ryan Raburn. Rodon has really taken a step back this year. Mark

Another injury the Sox can't take because of the lack of talent in the minor league system and on the bench. We're not talking about All-Star selections here getting hurt (Avila, Jackson, Davidson, Putnum, Petricka, Webb) and the Sox are having a hard time replacing them. Mark

for those of you who lament Hawks stupidity...
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) I have always noticed a lot of the people that rip him use a lot of information he provides. Yeah, he is too into the umpires, yeah his defense of Avi's defense is homer ism at its best, but he knows a heck of a lot about the game. Listening to him talk about hitting, where to stand in the box is fascinating. Players used to move around in the box, not anymore. Like with Frazier, saying he should move his back foot 6 inches farther from the plate so he won't pull off the ball was so simple and made so much sense. Great! Make him the new hitting coach and get him out of the booth! Mark

THE 'MURICA GDT: Yanks at Sox
Hey they even hit a home run with someone on base!!! Mark

The April Sox are back
Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me. I reserve judgment a little while longer if you please. Nice that they finally scored some runs while Q was pitching. Mark

Who will represent the Sox at the ASG?
It'll be Chris Sale and Chris and Sale and Sale, Chris. That's all folks. Mark

1977 was another magical season, the "South Side Hitmen" were in the full flower of their ability, hammering and bashing baseball's to the farthest distances of stadiums around the league. Jim Spencer had already had a memorable game on May 14 when he drove in eight RBI's as the Sox blitzed Cleveland 18-2 in a game that started at 10:30 in the morning. Spencer liked that so much he decided to do it again. It's July 2, 1977, the Sox are on their way to a four game sweep of the Twins and taking first place in the division. This Saturday game was won by the Sox 13-8. Spencer would drive in eight RBI's again becoming the only Sox player to do that twice let alone in the same year. Jim had a grand slam, a three run homer and an RBI hit. This is the grand slam off Minnesota's Bill Butler. It came in the fourth inning and was the Sox first hit of the afternoon. 1990 was a magical, amazing season for the White Sox. The team, picked for last, shocked the baseball world by winning 94 games. And the way they won some games left you realizing the "baseball gods" were smiling on the team. They won a game when a ball thrown hit Ron Kittle on the hip off first base and bounced away. They won when Lance McCullers of the Yankees threw a wild pitch with Lance Johnson on third, they won when Carlton Fisk was hit in the middle of his back by a curve ball which forced in a run...but without question the most bizarre way to win came on July 1, 1990. It was the 80th anniversary of the opening of Comiskey Park. The Yankees Andy Hawkins tossed a no-hitter...AND LOST THE GAME! The Sox won 4-0 as Yankee outfielders dropped two fly balls in the eight inning to score all four runs. Unbelievable. Here is the audio of the first error, the big one as Robin Ventura's fly ball with the bases loaded was booted by Jim Leyritz a third baseman playing left field. Announcer is Wayne Hagin. 07/02 GDT Sox at Astros
That my friends was the definition of "winning ugly..." 41 wins, halfway to a winning season! WOO HOO! (Hey at least that would be something...) Mark

Carlos Sanchez up. Davidson to DL.
Davidson had a screw inserted into the foot today. Will be re-evaluated in two weeks then the Sox will have a better idea how long he'll be out. And I think Smith has only played in one game in Charlotte since the injury. Mark

July 1st, 2016 - Chicago White Sox vs. Huston Astros - 7:10

White Sox winner!
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Nope. It goes back to like 1965...I think that's what they said during the broadcast. First Kevan Smith, now Davidson? Weird anti-Herm Schneider going ons this year. Webb out for the year, Petricka out for the year, Jackson injured. Still doesn't amount to the injury losses other teams have faced (and are facing), though. Don't forget Coats couldn't finish his first game either because of the collision. Regarding the injuries it's actually worse for the Sox because they have little to no depth and the minor league call up's have been "lacking" to put it mildly. Mark
-
White Sox winner!
By the way I think the Sox have now hit 14 consecutive solo home runs. Nice to get the win. Bad news about Davidson. The baseball gods are saying again it's not your season. Mark
