QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 12:06 PM) Fit enough buzzwords in there? "There's no real reason to like him" from you means "He's conservative." Having talked and worked with the guy he's very nice and generous and a big Sox fan. If you think Shapiro is dumb that's more of an indictment on yourself than him. The guy is freakishly smart whether you agree with him or not. So raBBit, since you're clearly coming from a different position on him, what do you think about what I said in the original post? Where he claimed there were only 3 school shootings in January, and missed a bunch, including that pretty major one in Kentucky. Stuff like that rubs me the wrong way when he claims to be so fact-driven.

I want to be able to like Ben Shapiro because I always hear about how smart and great he is. But I don't know how I can do this when I see him spewing nonsense like this. How can someone who prides himself on facts and accuracy completely omit various school shootings, such as the Jan 23rd shooting in Kentucky, killing 2 and injuring 18? What's the consensus on this guy?

I wish I were born 100 years later, or however long it takes for this to get sorted out. It really sucks growing up in this world, in this country, especially as a racial minority. I wasn't surprised in the least to learn that this guy was a member white supremacist group. Sometimes, something like this happens, or Vegas, etc. and I think that this could be the one that finally makes a change. But, if nothing happened after Sandy Hook, I think we're stuck like this until something even bigger than Vegas happens. At this rate, though, that might even be by the end of the year.

Dodgers could've traded Kemp, packaged with a prospect of course, and then signed Darvish with the new cap room. Guess nobody wanted Kemp/they didn't feel Darvish was worth the risk

DAN CLARKVerified account @DanClarkSports The #Orioles and #Indians spoke this past week about a potential trade for Manny Machado. https://twitter.com/DanClarkSports/status/961328256015192064

In those 1 second cuts, I figured they'd include Abreu or someone. Most teams got someone, even bad teams.

The MLB The Show 18 trailer featured, by my count, 0 White Sox players- but don't worry, a solid 75% of the video was Aaron Judge, Trea Turner, and Marcus Stroman. https://twitter.com/MLBTheShow/status/960558707846217731

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 07:30 PM) I guess I’m missing the point here. Are you suggesting that referring to a Native American as an “American Indian” would be offensive? Maybe I’m not informed on the issue, but my understanding is a vast portion of the world back then was considered part of “India”. Regardless, the Cleveland Indians aren’t based on modern day Native Americans but Indian tribes that existed in the early days of America. So calling them the “Cleveland Native Americans” really does not make any sense. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 08:36 PM) National Museum of the American Indian QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 09:34 PM) American Indian is actually the preferred term for a lot of indigenous groups in the US. They use First Peoples a lot in Canada, not sure about Central and South America, but here American Indian is perfectly acceptable. e: thoroughly beaten by Leonard! My point is that the word "Indian" is only associated with Native Americans because Columbus thought he was in India and thus called them Indians at first. The term stuck through time. In my opinion, the word "Indian" should only be used in the context of the country of India, and not Native Americans. Not about being offensive, just a matter of accuracy
-
Another thing people should stop doing is referring to Native Americans as Indians. Sure, "Cleveland Native Americans" doesn't have the same ring to it, but Indians... are... from India. Sorry, Columbus, but you missed your target.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 03:03 PM) Lots of Casey Schroeder fans all up in here I was disappointed to see that Jake Burger liked his tweet, too. "I blame it on liberal institutions and a lack of masculinity in America." -Schroeder

QUOTE (napa_soxfan @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 02:01 PM) I recently hosted Cody and friends here at the winery and didn't have the heart to tell him he is literally our poster child here. For the record, he was a lot of fun to spend time with and asked a lot of good questions. He actually seems like a great guy. https://twitter.com/cody_smasche/status/940050346705010693

Sox expecting to open '18 with both Avi and Abreu
Jose Abreu replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 01:23 PM) For many it crossed a line into personal. Correct, and it never made any sense given his work ethic and effort on the field. It was a meathead fan fad. -
A concept: if you aren't Native American, you have no right to comment on how the logo is no big deal or is not offensive. Pretty simple.

05 Sox left off 'Top 25 Teams In Expansion Era' list
Jose Abreu replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 02:54 PM) I think the problem is that the majority of the roster had career years in 2005. If that exact same 25-man roster came together in any other season, they would be lucky to win 90 games. Is that really something you can hold against them, though? 11-1 alone is enough for me to think they should be top-25 on this list. That dominance alone is so hard to replicate. I would've liked to see them in the 15-25 range. -
Yet, of course, the 2016 Cubs made it. The 05 Sox, who were at least referenced in the show, "just missed it". The full list isn't out yet because the show is still going on, but here is an article discussing it. Edit: Those Cubs were ranked 6th

Guaranteed Rate Field extending Netting to end of dugout
Jose Abreu replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) That it's in the way of my view of my season tickets and they decided to tell us well after we had to renew. Unless you're sitting in the first 4-5 rows (and this isn't a personal attack or anything, you very well might have those seats), you'd have to try pretty hard to even notice it. -

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Jose Abreu replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 05:40 PM) Hansen higher ranked than Harrison but Brinson equally higher ranked than Robert The differences aren't equal though. Brinson/Robert will be about 10-15 apart on the Pipeline rankings, which obviously means they're pretty close. Hansen projects to be >>15 spots ahead of Harrison. Either way, this is all subjective. I personally believe that Eloy/Dunning/Rutherford/throw-in is a better comp, as Hansen has a much higher ceiling than anyone coming from Milwaukee aside from Brinson. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 05:27 PM) Would you agree Sox equivalent is Robert, Hansen and Rutherford? Nah- Eloy, Dunning, and Rutherford/Adolfo. Hansen is a much better prospect than Diaz. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 08:11 AM) Look at it this way: last year, we traded Adam Eaton (a young, cost-controlled OF) for three prospects. We did this beause we didn't have enough good players to compete, so we needed to take the chance to turn one good player into MORE THAN ONE good player. What good would it do, a year later, to trade 3-4 prospects for Christian Yelich (a different young, cost-controlled OF) when the MLB team is WORSE than before? Yelich is younger and better than Eaton, but not substantially. Does keeping Eaton throught the rebuild instead of trading him make sense? If the answer is no, then trading for Yelich doesn't really make sense either. There will be a time where trading for guys is the right move, but we have to have some of these prospects turn into MLB guys first, because until that happens, we still need the prospects. +1 -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 05:57 PM) Broxton also Yes, but he might as well be in the minors with his production. I don't see why he'd factor into their plans.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 05:57 PM) Would likely mean Yu to Yanks I love when teams help out the Yankees like this. They really need it!

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 05:55 PM) Those first few sentences seem to contradict each other. You name 3 starting OF and a couple recent/current top prospects and that's not considered a glut? A team only needs 3 starters and a backup. And that's what they have, no? Braun/Brinson/Santana with Phillips as well, as they do need 4.
