  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2017 -> 12:23 AM) I honestly think that was the University of Chicago, Columbia, one of those super elite schools that was having similar PC and safe space debates at the time. Maybe Greg's right and it's Mizzou, but my recollection was it was another university. uChicago in particular is very anti-safe space. Their welcome letter to incoming first-year students last year was basically just ripping safe spaces.
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:02 PM) Possibly because of all those strikeouts in September. (Moncada, not Sale) Yeah, a team would make that big of a decision based off 19 at-bats.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Did you guys see who matches up on Monday afternoon? I don't think that will happen. Because of the doubleheader, it's more likely Quintana pitches Tuesday.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) With the Cubs, he also was criticized with the way he ran the bullpen. He has had a couple of questionable decisions, but so far he's been OK there. Of course when the bullpen is getting guys out, you will always look good. He's certainly not some guru, but the players seem to like him, so he'll be OK. If the White Sox ever get to where they want to be, they won't have many guys in the line up where bunting is even a thought. That may be why he is so bunt happy now. We'll see. But if he bunts with guys like Cabrera/Abreu, what would stop him from ordering bunts from the prospects?
  5. I'm worried that the bunting will persist even when this team is good. Renteria just loves bunting, he always has.
  6. Enough. Of. The. Bunting.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Honest opinion is sox are going to get way less than we expected on Q. I agree, which is why I added a bunch of guys to my proposal above. It's a shame, because he's under team control for a year longer than Sale and is just a tick worse, so their trade value should be almost equal if those two factors negate.
  8. I'm starting to think that Boston's lack of reliable SP, even when Price returns, will lead Dombrowski to trade for Quintana. What's interesting is that aside from Devers and Groome, there aren't as many big prospects for them to trade to us. I know we've always liked Eduardo Rodriguez, but he's pitching well in the Majors, so would Boston accept something like this? Chicago gets: Devers, Groome, E. Rodriguez, Dahlbec, lottery ticket Boston gets: Quintana, Holland (to replace E-Rod in their rotation), and perhaps a reliever other than Jones/Robertson/Kahnle as a sweetener
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) Wins may be overblown, but especially in today's game, it would be pretty hard for a pitcher to win 20 games and not be really good that particular season. Porcello was very good last year, but was also very overrated due to his 22 wins. Verlander and Kluber were probably better, but IMO Porcello took the Cy from them because of wins.
  10. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 23, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) The only opinion stated in the first post was that that he found the situation interesting. Yeah, this thread is mostly just a discussion about Law's newsletter and him freaking out on Chuck's podcast. Nothing absurd about it, but to each their own.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 24, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I think Law was moreso mad that he felt Garfien was insinuating that Law only talked to scouts with teams that couldn't sign Robert, and therefore was more critical of his ability, and that Law couldn't see through the BS. Basically that Law got bad info and that he was gullible enough to believe it. He basically said that. I don't think he basically said that. I think all he was gonna say was something along the lines of, "are scouts sometimes biased due to their teams' potential on landing a player?".
  12. QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 24, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) Should we be concerned this singing hasn't been made official yet? I think it won't be announced until he gets a physical in Chicago. Wasn't he supposed to arrive today or tomorrow?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) Posted this in game thread also, but he's making some dumb decisions with the bunt https://mobile.twitter.com/BenFinfer/status...216315773317121 He's called for bunts with 2 strikes more often than anyone ever should.
  14. The good old 2 strike bunt. Thanks, Rick.
  15. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) I'm just messing around. I brought those jokes upon myself with my stubbornness and hardheadedness. Just not a big Abreu fan and I think he is grossly overrated around here. His demi-god status is reaching trump levels. It's ridiculous. That's fine and you're entitled to that opinion, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to post "the sky is falling" type threads every time he slumps.
  16. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ May 23, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) I am getting tired of seeing Dylan Covey's poor pitching every 5 days. Do us a favor and make some posts blessing our prospects and protecting them from injuries. Thanks.
  17. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) I tried to take the high road with him and stand up for Chuck. He really just is a jerk. <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"> He quickly blocked me after telling me "it'll be a cold day in hell before i take advice on professionalism from some coward tweeting from behind a pseudonym" And it looks like he then replied "send your observations to Lake nobody cares"
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:18 PM) Ha, no we can't but I'm now certain I'm just a moron who missed the podcast link because it blended into the tweet, my apologies. I was only referring to the tweet. FYI to anyone looking to embed a tweet, you can grab the "embed tweet" code from twitter then when posting on here change "post options" half way down the reply screen to "HTML On - Raw/Auto Linebreak Mode" No problem, and sorry for getting defensive, I was just confused because I was sure I had never mentioned Robert. Thanks for that tip, I'll be sure to use it.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) It's important to note that you substantially edited the opening post to this thread. Can mods/admins check edit history? I hope they can, because I never once mentioned Luis Robert. I edited the link to the podcast and took out an unnecessary period, if you must know.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) The timeline is typically bastardized in these situations. Confirmation bias has a strong pull. I never mentioned Luis Robert, I know Law doesn't like him (although he hasn't seen him play) for whatever reason. I was referring to the podcast and tweet from today.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) You do know he's kidding, right? He's been getting tweets from Sox fans all day asking why he hates the Sox because they read his write-up on Robert whom he's been less than impressed with since this whole thing started. It's still unprofessional to even jokingly write something that would destroy a lot of your credibility.

I know it's often debated whether or not Keith Law actually has a bias against the White Sox. However, today, he tweeted this: keithlaw‏Verified account @keithlaw Just sent out the latest edition of my email newsletter, titled "Here's why I hate the White Sox." Sign up at http://tinyletter.com/keithlaw ------------------------------ And he and Chuck Garfein got into it starting around the 8:30 mark here. Law got quite angry. I just find the whole situation interesting.
