QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) On April 11th all three of Kahnle, Ynoa, and Swarzak still hadn't proven they could be trusted at all and were basically considered garbage pitchers based on their previous seasons. Swarzak hadn't even been given a chance, and everyone knew coming in that he wasn't the same pitcher with his new fastball. As for Ynoa, I disagree, he was pretty good for us last year. Maybe Swarzak's first shot should not have been in such a high-leverage situation, but I don't see why Ynoa couldn't have been tried.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) What was the unused pitchers workload the entire week before? One day off doesn't mean a guy is good to go, these guys aren't robots QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) And when was the last time Robertson had thrown in each of those, along with what were the IP loads of the set up guys prior to that? 4/11: Robertson had pitched an inning two days prior, 4/9. Swarzak was fresh and unused all season. Kahnle had pitched an inning on 4/6 and another on 4/7, so he was fresh too. Ynoa had pitched two innings on 4/6. Yeah, I'm standing by this one, all three of those guys were viable. 5/16: Robertson had pitched an inning on 5/11 and 5/13. Swarzak pitched 1.2 innings on 5/13 and 1.1 innings on 5/15. Ynoa had pitched 2 innings on 5/12 and 1 inning on 5/14. Theoretically, he should've been good to go. Holmberg had pitched 0.2 innings on 5/12 and 1 inning on 5/14. Probably was available as well. For this game, the only viable options were Ynoa and Holmberg, and I think we could've used one of them before going to Robertson.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Same questions apply. Who is available? On 4/11, which was the first game after an off-day, we had used Jennings, Putnam, and Jones (for one inning, he was the pitcher right before Robertson in the 9th). I believe that means we had Swarzak, Kahnle, and Ynoa. On 5/16, which was the bottom of the 10th in a tie game, we had used Infante, Beck, Jennings, and Kahnle (for one inning, he pitched right before Robertson). That leaves Swarzak, Ynoa, and Holmberg.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) This is exactly how I feel. Let's be aggressive in stolen bases this year (IMO), and sure, try a bunt. Let us figure out who can do it and who can't before it matters. You have a lot more faith than I do that he's gonna somehow suddenly change his ways when we try to contend, or that Jerry will become unloyal by that time and fire him.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) And who else? I mean typically that is something you can use you top set up guys to do. You don't have Nate Jones. You don't have Zach Putnam. You don't have Jake Petricka. Going down the line, you can see who they used already in this game, who else had logged extensive innings in recent games. I am not seeing who else you use in that game, in that situation besides Robertson. So that may justify yesterday, but what about when the same thing happened on 4/11 and 5/16?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) maybe the guy is just trying to see what his players can and cannot do while he is in a year where they are clearly not expected to compete. Which is pretty much exactly the same situation he was in while manager of the Cubs. This is a mulligan year, finding out if Adam Engel can lay down a squeeze or sac bunt seems like something a manager should know. But it's not just the AAA guys that are bunting, it's our middle of the order guys too.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 08:03 PM) You had to know it would. The cry was against Ventura last year and everyone wanted Renteria and now he's the target Again, there's no problem in evaluating a manager in my eyes. I never said he should be fired immediately or anything. In-game managing is just a clear weakness of his.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 06:22 PM) The bullpen is fried. It has been toasted over the last couple of weeks by awful starting pitching. Realistically Robertson is the freshest guy out there. Go back and look at the IP for these guys lately. Our pen has logged more IP than our starters have for a while now. While this is true, he did this with Robertson earlier in the season as well (either once or twice).

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:10 PM) Fathom doesn't have any delusions of competition this year. The worst are the people who think we're like two players away. Trout and Kershaw. Boom.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) And it has started..... I don't see the problem with analying our new manager. It's a rebuild, and if we want to contend later, we'll need more than just a capable roster.

Bleachers' new album "Gone Now" came out the other day.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) Bring Moncada up and Yolmar become the utility infielder. No reason to wait on this move any longer. Except for Moncada being in a pretty big slump. Hitting .135 (5-37) in his last 37 ABs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Use him same way Cubs did. Have him help develop the core guys and then upgrade when you're ready to compete. My problem is, I don't know if the FO would actually cut ties with him before we try to compete.
-
I know that isn't as important now, but if he's still manager when we're trying to compete, it will be. First, there's the constant bunting. I'm not even going to elaborate much because you all know exactly what I'm talking about. Isn't it textbook insanity to do the same exact thing over and over, expecting different results, only for the same result to keep happening? I remember hearing that somewhere- whatever it is, Renteria is at that point with the bunting and the two-strike bunting (which is even worse- even a 5 year-old knows not to bunt with two strikes). There's the more minor issue of bullpen decisions. I know this may be more Cooper, but specifically, I'm referring to his use of Robertson in non-save situations, especially in extra-inning road games. What's the point of burning your closer in the bottom of the 9th inning in a tie game when you might need him to, I don't know, close the game later on? Not to mention Robertson tends to pitch poorly in non-save spots. This is something I haven't noticed as much, and it may be more on the coaching staff than on Rick, but there are times where we don't challenge a play that has indisputable evidence in our favor, even when we have an available challenge. For example, last weekend, Anderson was called out at first on a relatively close play, but upon watching the replay, there was clear, absolutely indisputable evidence showing that he was safe. The Sox did not challenge, to the surprise of Benetti and Stone. There's probably more that I'm missing, but can't think of at the moment- those are my biggest issues with him. It feels wrong to miss Ventura, but I, at times, do; I do, however, love how prepared and engaged our players are under Rick, which is an obvious improvement from Robin. Some of you may think that he'll cut out the bunting and improve overall once we try to compete, and I hope that's true, but I really don't know if that will happen. I just think that this is his managing style.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?cid=633 LUIS Robert could be starting his White Sox career today...in fact, all the games already started at 10:30 am in the Dominican. He will wear #26 to start out. http://www.dominicansummerleague.com/www/b...-baseball-city/ (Schedule for this month) http://dominicansummerleague.com/www/estad...6/withesox.html (DSL White Sox team statistics) Nice to see that Avi Garcia is his role model already.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 31, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) I was flying across the country today, and I swear I saw another jet pass like 100 yards beneath our plane. I want the only one who noticed, either. Even the flight attendants were commenting on it, and there were audible gasps from a couple of passengers. That's quite creepy, honestly. With radar, the only way that should happen is if the other plane was somehow unmarked.

There's also Petricka and Putnam

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 31, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) But they should stick to that. The shouldn't try to sell him when his value is at his lowest. They may just need to wait. Exactly. You don't trade a guy just to trade him. There's no rush.

His AB vs. Sale tonight with the bases loaded was incredible. He kept fighting and fighting until he got his pitch. Probably my favorite AB of his ever, aside from the walk-off grand slam against Tampa in 2014.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 30, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) That triple last night was a thing of beauty. Waited back on the looping curve and drove it into the corner. Then of course he was flying around the bases. This will probably be controversial but I think Carlos is on the juice. I saw a interview with him the other day and holy s*** he is built like a wrestler now. I DGAF whatever helps the Sox win. By Carlos, do you mean Carlos Rodon, or Yolmer Sanchez? If Yolmer, I always remember him being surprisingly jacked, even before this season.
