QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) I really don't like Upton. Not a very good hitter. But I just want a bat so we'll see. So you think CarGo is a good hitter but Upton isn't?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) As Upton just hit a 3 run bomb in the 9th to take the lead against the Mets. That said, don't see us giving up much for a rental like Upton. The Padres are winning?? It was like 7-1 Mets in the 6th when I was watching. Damn.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 57s57 seconds ago Sources: #Padres progressing on multiple deals, with Ross a key piece. Moving him would signal concession in ’15. But looking at adding too. Maybe one is with us for Upton?

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) When did Starlin become Public Enemy #1?? It's a real buy low candidate. Maybe the Cubs toss in some money, maybe not. But I don't think it's that crazy. Again, I haven't watched a ton of Cubs games, so I could be wrong. But, sure he's bad at SS, but 3rd base should be a little easier to handle. Look at his stats. Age 20: .300BA, .347OBP, 3HR, 41RBI 71SO Age 21: .307BA, .341OBP, 10HR, 66RBI 96SO Age 22: .283BA, .323OBP, 14HR, 78RBI 100SO Age 23: .245BA, .284OBP, 10HR, 44RBI 129SO Age 24: .292BA, .339OBP, 14HR, 65RBI 100SO I feel like some are pretty dismissive right of the bat. Buying low on a guy, who's salary is under or about $10mm is not awful in this day and age. Look at what some people are getting out there. Yes there is a decline over time, however this is not like an Adam LaRoche drop off because of age. He's 25. Maybe a change of scenery could change things. Just a thought. Not saying I'm a proponent. But -- sorry, its not like Saladino is our answer. And look at the trash we've marched out to 3b over the last decade. You conveniently left out his age 25 season. Moving from SS to 3B doesn't come with some guarantee that your defense will improve. His contract f***ing sucks.

On one hand, Garcia looks like he could've used a day off. But.......

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Read BIG DATA BASEBALL if you want a more detailed and nuanced explanation of pitch framing and why the Pirates believe it's so important. You can probably also search online and find some articles written by Pitt beat writers about why they targeted Russell Martin and Cervelli, since that was the main reason in the case of both guys... And now, Cervelli is this big-time hitter too. Crazy how that worked out for them. Although it may be the roids

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Not if his start was just pushed back from today to this weekend, which is what I read about an hour ago. Now he's DL bound. My bad, didn't know he was scratched. Just knew he was scheduled to pitch today.

I feel like these "scattered rain" games only happen when Sale is the scheduled starter.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) That'd be tough to say no to, but I doubt they'd offer Judge. Nice we'll miss Pineda this weekend though. Would've missed him anyway. Missing Tanaka, too. We get Sabathia, Eovaldi, Nova.

There's no denying that Frazier would be magnificent for his performance and contract, but the price would likely be very, very high.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Todd Frazier isn't in the Reds lineup tonight, so I assume he'll be playing for the WSox tomorrow. Frazier and Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye and Micah Johnson and Frank Montas and Tim Anderson and Spencer Adams and Tyler Saladino and Courtney Hawkins.

I don't know about Ben Revere. If we're going to make a trade, it should be to address a need. He's basically another Adam Eaton, from a performance point of view. Good defense and speedy lead-off guy. Yes, Eaton's numbers are down, but since April, he's been back to 2014 form + power.

The Mets broadcast on today's Mets/Padres broadcast talked about us a little. They said we're the hottest team in baseball and they support our decision to buy.

Still feel bad for Flores. He must be embarrassed now that he's still a Met.

I can see us acquiring Adam Lind. Now that the Cardinals are out of the running for him, our chances are better. He'd be a great LaRoche replacement, and the price won't be too high.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) Not sure why Soto can't just take our DH ABs Because if Flowers gets hurt or needs to be pinch-run for, etc. we'd have to move Soto to catcher, thus eliminating the DH and forcing our pitchers to hit.
