  1. Not according to Heyman, who gets his info straight from Boras. He reported in June that the Sox made a last minute run at him after missing on Machado. Obviously, they failed, so it doesn't really matter, but the other poster is incorrect in saying that the Sox don't even negotiate with Boras. Don't sign his clients? Sure. But they absolutely negotiate, and it's a weird thing to deny
  2. We're discussing him as a 2B, where he used to play
  3. Great. Doesn't mean the rest of us can't talk about it
  4. This would also allow you to trade Madrigal (or Anderson I guess) for a good SP or RF.
  5. I meant to say OF/DH but I didn't realize he only DH'd 3 times. Thanks for the info
  6. I may sound like a broken record but I'm sure it's not nearly as bad as some others in this thread. The argument is framed as a "people who like data/progress and advanced metrics think Abreu is bad, people who are stuck in the Stone Age think Abreu is good", but this is quite ironic because his exit velo, hard hit rate, xwOBA, etc. are all really good. I think the debate says more about people's ability to take multiple data points and use advanced metrics the way they were intended to be used than anything else.
  7. Great points. It's really too bad that the advanced metrics actually suggest he's a good hitter though.
  8. They're certainly lacking in that regard but saying they're the worst is an overstatement, IMO. I'm sure that their use of analytics has something to do with the offensive emergence of Moncada and Anderson, as well as the turnarounds by Sheets, Stiever, Luis Gonzalez, and others in the minors. It can't all be luck
  9. The Dominican Summer League is over for the White Sox. Benyamin Bailey (OF) had a .477 OBP which was 4th best in league history. Johnabiell Laureano (CF) had a .980 OPS and 6 home runs. Manuel Veloz (18, RHP) had a 0.91 ERA over 39.2 innings and surrendered just 7 walks and 0 home runs. Ronaldo Guzman (16, LHP) struck out 13.2 batters per 9 innings.
  10. Probably just an org guy
  11. I'm referring to how you said you were no longer a negative nancy and then declared that the Sox are the worst organization in the league from an analytics standpoint based on a throwaway comment from Nick Madrigal
  12. Also, from this exact thread, 50 hours ago...
  13. His teammates seem to be the most supportive though.
  14. Right, and there's also next to no chance that they get as close to the luxury tax line as the Cubs, and I say that as someone who thinks they're gonna spend a lot of money in the near future
  15. Pitching, yes, but where did you get the premium part from? Not saying you're wrong, I just don't remember that
  16. I think the answer depends heavily on when the draft was. For drafts that are around now, he's probably going in the top 5. I'm doing an auction tonight and he'll definitely go for ~$50 which is about his full value. If this were 2 weeks ago, cut $15 off that, and he probably wasn't even a 1st rounder.
  17. It exists, but I also think that it's far less of a factor than the casual fan would think. As in, some players can be very slightly better or very slightly worse in "clutch" situations, but you won't find a good hitter consistently crater or a AAAA guy become an all-star in such spots
  18. 109 MPH EV, .770 xBA, double play
  19. Feels like Benyamin Bailey hasn't played in awhile.
  20. I understand not thinking that they're gonna sign big name free agents, but thinking that they're gonna maintain some of the lowest inflation-adjusted payrolls in franchise history is honestly an impressive level of front office hatred
  21. I still believe that Martinez is gonna opt out.
  22. Luis Gonzalez has a 101 wRC+ now. That's a nice turnaround.
  23. I agree on the tier 2 comment and that's why I'm trying to go tier 1 and tier 3 in my auction draft. Ideally, I want to get one of Barkley/CMC/Kamara (or Bell/DJohnson if the prices get outrageous) and then pair that back with one of Kerryon, Aaron Jones, or Montgomery, who I think are all primed for big years
  24. Exactly. You two have been nailing it with your posts lately
