  1. Dan Hayes provides hope: No guarantee #WhiteSox start season w/ Flowers/Phegley at C. It's Dec. 2. But club won't write them off, either. http://bit.ly/1g0WRKd
  2. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) In other news...Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 1m White Sox won't tender a contract to pitcher Dylan Axelrod. Good.
  3. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) I don't know who this guy on Twitter is and I also don't know what thread to put it in, so here: Brian Madsen ‏@brianm731 3m Flowers re-signs. Paulie just made up his mind. He gone. #whitesox He's probably just some kid
  4. Dan Hayes: "Rick Hahn at GM meetings said #WhiteSox are hesitant to write off Tyler Flowers and Josh Phegley. Believe both can reach their upside."
  5. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/407687161451122688 "Source: Tyler Flowers re-signs with #White Sox, one year, $950,000."
  6. 1/950k per Ken Rosenthal
  7. We have to make a decision on Flowers tonight, right?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Pitching half of your games in that stadium, that is probably pretty misleading. Actually, Target Field only barely favored hitters. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/order/false
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) JPA is not a .230 hitter. He holds the worst approach in all of baseball. I know. What I meant is we have too many players who hit .230 or under as is.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Yes, that's exactly my point. They both blow. There's no need to replace Flowers with Flowers, just as the Blue Jays believe that there is no need to replace Arencibia with Arencibia. At this point, keep the devil you know ORRRR get rid of Flowers and don't ever, ever, ever talk to Arencibia. But if we got JPA for practically nothing, would you want him? Sure, he and Flowers both have terrible averages, but Arencibia produces more runs.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) He actually pitched pretty good against the Sox(who didnt?) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...t=p#oppon_extra Maybe I had him confused with Mike Pelfrey.
  12. Arencibia's 162 game averages- .212, 27/82, OBP of .258 Flowers' 162 game averages- .200, 19/45, OBP of .279
  13. I'd usually say that we don't need another .230 or below hitter, but he'd be replacing Phlowers. If we don't give much up, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) He is a more than serviceable 4th starter. Maybe I'm just remembering some time that we pounded him. I didn't realize his ERA was 4.18.
  15. J.P Arencibia will be non-tendered or traded. Toronto already talking to one team about a trade. (He will either be traded or a free agent by tomorrow.)
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:01 AM) Diamond is pretty good. Correia isnt that bad either. They dont have a true ace, but they have a nice rotation "Isn't that bad" is a nice way of putting it.
  17. I remember all the Homer Bailey for Dye rumors... looking back on that I'd definitely do it considering Dye hasn't played since
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) I think you have to remember that list was for who they consider best for 2014 so a certain amount of speculation went into it. Then surely, Santiago would be on it and Quintana would be top 50?
  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 1, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) What's to lol about? AJ knows how to call a game and target field is a pitchers park that would benefit Nolasco and especially Hughes. I think the is about Nolasco and Hughes being a 1-2 punch. I can see Nolasco being a 3.60 (DH now) and Hughes a 4.25. Probably didn't have much to do about A.J.
  20. Also, "According to the Minnesota Star Tribune's LaVelle Neal, the Twins are making progress on signing A.J. Pierzynski."
  21. Cano asking for 9 years, 260 now. Still an impossible signing.
  22. "The Twins have agreed to a three-year, $24MM deal with Phil Hughes, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports. A source with knowledge of the talks tells Neal that the Twins are expected to announce the deal this week, with Hughes expected to undergo a physical as early as this weekend. A still-young 27, Hughes appears to have succeeded in translating the promise of his stuff into a larger contract than many projected. While he's steadily maintained his low-90s velocity since breaking into the big leagues in 2007, Hughes owns a career 4.54 ERA in more than 780 innings." I still think they have the worst ALC rotation, but they're steadily climbing towards the fourth-best.
  23. I still remember some of those scrubs... Andy Gonzalez, Luis Terrero, Ryan Bukvich, Ehren Wasserman. Wow.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) You and Balta think much like me as far as trying to compete for 2014 but I think we know in our hearts that it's not likely to happen. About the only thing I can say for what I really want to see happen besides what you outlined is that a strong defensive CF is a must. I think that kind of player sets the tone for the whole team defensively. I know thats probably not backed up statistically in any way, just my basic baseball instincts about being strong defensively up the middle, especially CF. We also need a few guys who don't view OBP as a disease. But after 2007, did we want to compete in 2008? Many of us did not, but we did, and we all know what happened.
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) I understand that what the cubs are doing has brainwashed some people. If everything goes right for them, then they will have 3-5 core players come up to the big leagues together in a few years, and then after a few years of adjusting, they should contend. 2018? All Hahn is doing is basically saying "f*** that". We just added 2 potentially dynamic young guys to our already massive young core at the MLB level. I would take our position over theirs every time. While I respect the rebuild thought process, I just can't see how it applies in the least bit to the White Sox. We already have tons of good, young guys having success at the MLB level. Keep adding good young guys Rick because at the end of the day, all you need to win is good players. I have to admit that what they're doing over there is pretty cool. I mean, Baez, Soler, Bryant, Olt... I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. Also, what about Zapata? He hasn't been that popular on this board, but he should be here in a few years.
