To be a great team, you have to have some great players. You have seen some of the young talent in Rodon,Anderson, Moncada, Fulmer, Gio and Lopez. How many are great after 1-3 years. So even 2021 is a stretch to expect the next wave to be great. Unless Hahn intends to sign 2-3 top free agents and trade some of the young talent to acquire established stars.

Understand your point but Yoan also has speed and plays an average defense in the infield. Unfortunately the #1 prospect and the coming of another Robinson Cano set too high expectations. Hopefully he becomes an above average 2nd baseman with a ceiling of still being a star.

Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season
SCCWS replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good post. But I think 2020 is more likely 2022. I would add Anderson to the other 4 you named. But looking at those 5, they are all in some stage of year 2-3 and pretty much have been up and down this season. Rodon looked like a 1/2 starter for a while but lately has struggled. Hopefully that is only fatigue after missing so much. Moncada and Anderson have been up and down and Gio and Lopez have short streaks of good and bad. I think it is reasonable to assume the next batch arriving in late 2019/2020 will also take a couple of years to adjust. I do think Eloy is the exception and will be a solid if not stud from Day 1. Then they have to trade and sign additionla talent. That can also be a good/bad situation. Teams like Boston and New York have both success and failures with the additions they make to their young core. Finally they have to find a manger to put the pieces together. I think 2020 would be great to reach .500. But more importantly, it would be great going into 2021 that we have 6-7 young players in place and doing well. -
Covey is our new ace. Now to pick some other starters to fill out the rotation for 2019.

Yes until they get someone better. His defense at least helps young pitchers for now -
The Oriole series was pretty much what we have seen all season. He goes 3-4 w a walk, 1-4 w 2KO and 0-5 w 3KO. Like a roller-coaster. Went over the 200 KO mark yesterday. Hopefully Stanton catches him. Yoan needs a fresh start in 2019.

Which seems to make sense. Attached is a pretty interesting article on TJ with input from White Sox team doctor. https://www.si.com/edge/2016/06/14/fastballs-curveballs-tommy-john-surgery-mlb-youth-baseball-prevention

But the question is why does Yoan lead the league in this category? There must be something in his stance that is somehow having a negative impact on the view of umpires.

maybe a stretch, but I think the SO problem is improving. It seems like the 2 or 2+ games are not happening and he has more 1 or 0 SO games. There are a lot of different umpires so the 50 is partly his issue as that unfortunately is the strike zone being called. Luckily Reynolds 220+ number most likely won't happen. -
Obviously they have a GM that thought he could pitch or he would not have been added to the ML roster. The manager played Engel in CF last night because when he went to make out the lineup, Trout or Betts were not on his roster.

One reason is Chris Sale was traded as part of the rebuild. As long as you can develop positional players you can trade for pitchers. Boston has the best record in baseball and they didn't draft any of their starting pitchers. -
Another possibility was the start against Boston. Obviously he was geared up for that start due to the trade and actually hit Betts to start the game. I remember Steve Lyons doing the color say he was overthrowing in that first inning. In hindsight, maybe that game w the lousy weather had sometning to do with it.

No, the rain delay did not affect him. Part of his orientation to the bigs, Kopech may have to learn how to handle waiting through a rain delay.

But not for Zimmermann

Actually the Red Sox ( maybe it is Dombrowski ) does not do this. Obviosuly they brought up Beninteni and Moncada right from AA. They then traded Moncada and brought up Devers at 20. I saw an article a few weeks ago where Dombrowski said he was against holding a player back for service time. He said the best coaches are in the majors and you can slow down progression leaving a kid in AAA. Now the other side of that is Boston has money and they are pretty confident they can keep their young players. But obviossly the Theo regime did not think this way. I wonder if Dombrowwski did the same thing in Detroit? Avi didn't spend much time in AAA

The Sox have done very well despite the loss of Abreu. In hindsight, if he had any value at the deadline( not sure he did) it would have been a good move to let him go. Davidson has found a home for a while.

I do not think this will have much impact on a future contract. By 2025, I think this issue will be a distant memory. His agent will eventually steer him to the team that makes the most sense for the big payday ( for them as well). Now if Eloy suffers a major injury at Charlotte next April, the shit will hit the fan.

If you are looking for a positive, Moncada did not strike out either AB. -

Just off DL, I would think Erod will only go 5. -
The only thing with set-up relievers is so many are very inconsistent. It seems like the top pure closers are pretty reliable year in and year out. But a lot of the set-up guys have roller coaster years and careers. I think Nate Jones when healthy has been one guy who has been pretty consistent as a set up but the Sox have had a lot of guys the last 10-15 years who come and go. Some of it is also the position. They have aweakness which prevents them from being the closer.

Good there are no incentives in MLB..............................

Maybe his agent is doing this so he goes north w the team next year instead of back to AAA
