  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) They are minting money now. I don't think winning another WS would have the financial impact it would have on other teams. There aren't many more tickets they can sell. They really can't increase the price all that much either. They will probably see a boost in ticket sales next year. This year they fell from 100% to 94% capacity. They cut their payroll by 30 million going into this year so they already made of for some of the lost ticket revenue. My guess is they shed Ellsbury and Drew next year for the 2 heralded rookies but they take on Peavy.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) Except for Boston, all the other teams that spend big money annually, really have no spot for him, or at least have other more important priorities. There are a bunch of teams that need a quality IB. Maybe the cost is scaring away most teams but it seems odd only 3 teams are very interested and 2 of the 3 are desperate. I hope the Sox have done their homework.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) God, you're insufferable. Nobody said 81 wins contends for the playoffs. The point I was making is that if signing two free agents that fit within your budget is enough to get you over .500, you are very close to being a playoff contender, especially if our young core of players can continue progressing. You are definitely not "3 years away" like you claim every other post. 81 wins would be a major leap. I think it will take 2 years to get to that. The division got better this year w Cleveland and KC better teams so now the White Sox will have a tougher time winning in the division. I do think Detroit is aging quickly so we have to see if they try getting younger in the offseason.
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) Big difference here is that Russell Martin was coming off a career worst year where he hit only .211 and Salty is coming of a career best year. Hard to compare the two cases. Again, the Red Sox top minor league catcher, Lavarnway, has not proven he is ready. The back-up in Boston, Ross, is a career back-up guy. The Red Sox will most likely want to re-sign Salty and since the team has had success and he has daughters in school I would think he will want to stay in Boston. He hit righties well this year and really struggled w lefties but he is a switchhitter.
  5. QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) Didn't the Astros just move Jonathan Singleton to the 40 man as well? It seems like interest in him is pretty limited. Good for White Sox but I also wonder why the big spenders are not involved.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) Then I'd get to call YOU a salty bastard Unfortunately, I think , for both sides. Salty resigning in Boston will happen.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) Bring back Astroturf and the 80's versions of the Cardinals and Royals. The players' union would hate it, but we might not be far away in the post-steroids era from a team building another version of the Metrodome/Skydome/Kingdome and trying to orient their entire style of play around speed, pitching and defense. The Mariners SORT of tried it at Safeco, but it doesn't work unless you have a little power. Remembering that Cardinals' team, they had McGee, Pendleton, Ozzie Smith and Vince Coleman that would run at all times. Herr could take some bags....David Green, Lonnie Smith, etc. It's the opposite of teams like the 2000 White Sox have 20+ homer guys at every position. And the White Sox are going to have to adapt... The Tigers have less speed than any team in baseball and they are successful. Next slowest team after the Tigers---St Louis.
  8. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) I'm calling it now... Don't be surprised if Sale is traded this winter. His value is absolutely beyond high right now and who knows just how much longer he will stay healthy with his current mechanics. My question for you guys is, If the White Sox can net three top 50 prospects and two mlb level position players (or something along those lines) would you pull that trigger? So if Sale is an injury waiting to happen, why would a GM offer 3 top 50 prospects for him??? Remember all the great prospects "fans" thought Peavy would bring?? Well the Red Sox turned down Peavy for Bradley. If Sale is an endangered species as some feel, he will not bring back a windfall. Therefore I expect to see him in a White Sox uniform next spring ready to win 20 games next year.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) Exactly. We just think that because Theo and Jed are there now that they are going to become a contender within a couple years. Truth is, if they miss on this next manager selection and the prospects don't pan out, Theo is the blame. Viciedo is just as much part of the future as is Avisail Garcia in my opinion. I think there is a big difference between the 2. Viciedo is slow and a below average outfielder. He is pretty much a one dimensional player. He is playing LF because he is on a bad team and the only other place you can hide him is at DH. Now maybe his weight hurts him but if he drops 20 lbs his offense may be adversly affected.
