I think the better question is why does it happen?. For example, does Joey Gallo have the same complaint?. Last I looked, Gallo had a worst SO% than Yoan. Is there something with Yoan's stance or movement in the box that is affecting the umpire's view? Is this fake news?

Agree but it can also be a negative indicator. Teams are now aware that too many IP can hurt some starters ( Maybe Sale) in the Post-Season.

Greg: I agree. I was trying to show that he had a solid April then dropped since then. But BA directly affects XBH and speed because the lower the average the less likely XBH and speed come in to play. His strikeouts are very up and down. He has had several 40+ and August may end up worst than any. So overall, I don't see August as a slump since he really struggled in May and July.

It is more than a 20 game brutal stretch. He hit .274-April, .205- May, .197-June .231-July .182-August. Luckily he had a solid April. He is not extremely young by today's standards but he is fairly new to US baseball.

I would add he does have youth on his side but that is also moving up.

Dennis Eckersley said a few weeks ago that he felt Sale has the best stuff of any pitcher he has ever seen in person.

With their lead, it will probably be the "October Sale" since they will milk him through August and September barring a collapse.

I am hoping he doesn't sign with Boston after next year. But he seems very content in Boston right now. Obviously the year they are having helps and Cora and staff has been very popular with the players so far.

LIP: That is from a Capital Gains standpoint. But I think the heirs have to resell after the death (within a few years) or they take a huge hit from an income tax standpoint. Also buyers get major tax write-offs to purchase teams.
  10. Getting a top 1/2 pitcher in your rotation is so hard to find. I think you build your staff around him.

Not at all. My comment was " My point is that JR may not see it that way since financially the rebuild has been a success despite poor attendance. The question is JR more concerned about revenue or wins/losses. We will find out. I actually think at his age, JR may not care how much he makes since it is probably monopoly money at this point. Hence my last sentence "we will find out". But Jerry will be 85 in 2021 so I would not be surprised if he steps down or sells by then.

If you read what I said, I actually think it supports my argument. KW arrived in 2000 and Paxson in 2003. KW's teams have played( and won) in one World Series. Paxson's teams have never made the NBA finals. Yet both have their jobs. It may be loyalty, or business success but their longevity is not based primarily on the field/court success. So one more time, with JR's track record, I do not assume that " if we don't see progress by 2020 heads should roll" .
  14. SCCWS replied to whitesoxbrad's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, unless you are in JR's inner circle. Suppose JR is getting ready to sell off the team? Then a low payroll is a solid selling point. Hopefully it is a coincidence that the White Sox and Bulls have both gone into rebuild mode and both have their lowest salaries in years.

You missed the point. A poster said if we don't see progress by 2020 heads should roll. My point is that JR may not see it that way since financially the rebuild has been a success despite poor attendance. The question is JR more concerned about revenue or wins/losses. We will find out.
  16. SCCWS replied to whitesoxbrad's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Lets keep in mind, this is a business first and foremost. As fans we are all thinking the success/failure of the rebuild is ultimately wins/losses. But there is also the profit margin. Is JR's priority the win/loss record or the revenue stream. KW has survived through some lean win/loss years so maybe the success of the rebuild to fans is different than to JR. At his age, hopefully money is an afterthought and he is desperate for a winner like all of us.

Actually I would say the Yankees did a rebuild after 2013. Other than Gardner and CC, they literally gutted the roster, saw guys like Pettitte, Rivera and Jeter retire and fired the manager. Boston has also done the equivalent of a rebuild after the 2014 season. But both organizations had good minor league talent, traded major league talent and had money to spend on FA talent. On the flip side, both those organizations drafted that good minor league talent in years where they were not drafting with high picks. So I will assume their scouting/minor league instructors did good jobs.

The key to being a good GM is not their athletic ability but their managerial ability. A good GM surrounds himself with good managers in the FO and in the field. Hopefully Hahn has done that.

You have 3-50% choices instead of 2 . What you did forget is he also has a chance to get worse. With his 467 plate appearances this year he has just about double last year's. He is down % wise in almost every category except stolen bases. Without a surge down the strecth, he will regress this season.
  20. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I live in New England and I hear little or nothing about the trade. Basically Sale has been a stud this season but the media is still having a wait and see approach to his ability to still be a stud in October. What I find amazing is that there seems to be zero Sale talk outside the lines. Nothing . Maybe he has matured since reaching Boston. Always David Price media spats but Sale is very silent.

Luckily I think Gallo still has a higher SO% since he has played less games. But it is turning into a 2 horse race for the record book.
  22. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If that is the case, then why has Anderson only batted 26% in the 1st or 2nd spot? It seems like they want more ABs for Moncada but not for Anderson. I think Anderson should bat 1st , Moncada 2nd and see if Moncada shows some improvement. Maybe it would lose him 1 AB a week.
  23. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I understand that is supposedly the reason. But why is Anderson not batting 2nd to get him the most PA as possible?. Also, last year Moncada had more success batting 2nd (.265) over the other spots in the order. Why not drop Moncada to 2nd and see if he shows any improvement?
  24. I think Sept call-ups in the AL this season will be affected by the pennant races. Too many teams will be assured playoff spots or out of contention. There will be a ton of AL games with small crowds and many AAA players, so the "MLB" experience" may be tainted.
  25. SCCWS replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
At this stage I am amazed he is still leading off. I know he is dropped down when a lefty is pitching, but maybe the kid needs to bat lower in the order just to see if it helps. Even move him to 2nd where he had the most success last year.
