QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Is there a way for one of the mods to unlock the offseason plan thread? I feel like all these proposals would be better in one place. I'm not quite sure why that thread was locked anyway. Because everyone was throwing everything into that thread and I guess people were complaining about have to read through it

2015 MLB Offseason activity thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Looks like another player is going to Baltimore too. Wow. Seems like a lot to give up for a career minor league catcher. Don't understand the rush to get rid of him. Tender him a contract and work on dealing him between now and Spring Training. The mariners didn't want to pay him period and basically just got rid of him.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) Eaton Heyward Abreu Arenado Melky TFT Avila Sanchez Saladino Bench-Flowers, MJ, LaSuck, Shuck Rotation- Sale, Rodon, Johnson, Danks, Lackey? I dunno, this rotation could be pretty bad without Q. Honesty with that lineup I think the Sox would lose more games then they did this year. If the Sox want to truly contend in 2016 then sanchez, Saladino and Trayce should only be seen in small doses in playing time. If the Sox were rebuilding then throw those guys out there to see what they are. They all can play some very good defense but offensively that would really bring down the team

why not go for Brett lawrie?
I'm starting to think that if saladino or sanchez start they will be on short leashes offensively. Started going over the overall team per position stats and it's pretty sad. The collective of all the guys who played 2nd for the Sox posted a .217 average, and .266 obp both dead last in all of baseball. Just throwing this out there sanchez started 112 games as second which he played 69% of the games for the Sox at 2nd. He hit only .007 better then team average and .002 better obp.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) Not sure what happened to Lawrie in '15 but his defense was average or better before that and since he's just shy of 26 I see no reason why he cannot get back to playing solid defense. I agree about upgrading the defense on the field. It's why I'm fine with giving Sanchez 2B and see if his bat comes around. Same with Saladino at SS if the Sox are unable to find a fit for that position. If the Sox end up going with Lawrie, Saladino and Sanchez it would leave funds available for the Sox to trade for an impact outfield bat (CarGo) that has a higher salary. I know Saladino and Sanchez aren't good hitters but its possible they can make up for that with their defense which would be pretty damn good up the middle of the infield. As bad as the Sox need offense, I'm pretty much thinking to upgrading the defense first and foremost because of the pitching staff. Sox should only carry one of saladino or sanchez unless their bats heavily improve. We saw how much the improved the defense last year but the offense really affected the team along with others. The Sox pitching staff put up a 3.98 era good for 14 in baseball. The Sox offense put up 622 runs which is 28 in baseball. That's 3.84 runs per game which is less the what the pitching staff have up. Sox really need to get offense at this point.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) you have an opinion that your think is right. let me reverse this thought process on you. in your scenario, you will need to take in consideration several variables that will need to all happen. 1. you will need to assume TT, replacing Avi will be hitting better than Avi. 2. you will need to assume Lawrie is hitting his weight 3, you will need to assume Laroche is north of 250 avg, 4. you will need to assume the combo of flower and Alex will be hitting north of 230-250. now if sanchez is not hitting, then the sox can deal with a weak bat, now if there is any failure in any of the above 4, the sox will have another season as last yr. it is plain and simple. mj defense is or was horrible. enuf that last yr, with the record they had, they had to fine a replacement. But then the offense that Sanchez played for the rest of the year also contributes to the Sox record when they were putting up one of the horrible offenses for the year. You keep saying you want a dee gordon when Micah can be that much of a player offensively then sanchez. My whole point of my argument that no one is getting is until either Sanchez or johnson has totally flamed out that I would not trade either of them cause they plain and simple need the depth of them cause neither right now is a perfect candidate to be the 2nd baseman. The both have flaws but need the depth in case one can't cut it to see if the other can.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) One thing to keep in mind and while it doesn't say much, Lawrie is an upgrade at third over what we've seen the last two or three seasons. Another thing is that even if the Sox trade for Lawrie and use Micah to get him, the Sox are still looking for a SS and with Sanchez at 2B, Saladino becomes the utility who can play all three of those positions well. Micah has a nice bat but there's no room in the lineup with the current roster and we all know about his defense. If Micah cannot field 2B, there's nowhere to put him and that makes him very expendable in a potential trade. I'm not saying he will be traded, there are others I'd rather see traded first but I wouldn't hesitate on trading Micah either. Don't think you really want to waste more development of saladino as a utility player at this point until he plays into one. If he isn't having continuous at bats then he probably should be in the minors playing everyday. Also you say if Micah can't field it makes him expendable but if Sanchez can't hit then he should become expendable as well since his really only position is 2nd.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) I think he is saying that Lawrie would be acquired to be a 3rd baseman as of right now, but if we are suddenly in the hunt come July and a 3rd baseman that can hit falls into our laps.. you get him and move Lawrie to 2nd base Yes I know what he is saying and what you are both implying is a hypothetical. How about the reverse hypothetical were you can't find a better 3rd baseman and the Sox traded away Micah and they have Sanchez hitting like crap and need to upgrade him offensively but can't do it within cause they traded the little depth that had now they have to go outside the organization to fI'll it. That's what I'm getting at to not trade the little depth the Sox have for middle infielders

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Lawrie plays 2B as well so if we were to acquire him our never ending search for a good 3B shouldn't/wouldn't end Yes I know he plays 2nd as well but the need of a 3rd baseman is now would have him playing there for now.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) In my theory, Lawrie would replace whoever is traded. But I get your point. In theory lawrie would be your 3rd baseman. That would leave saladino and leury Garcia as your ss and backup with Sanchez and johnson as your 2nd baseman without any other players added. Not really much depth to be playing with trading. Saladino and Sanchez are your better defenders and Johnson is better chance offensively. Probably only chance any of those guys are part of package is if they bring in someone better for one of those positions tho they also could be used on bench.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) If one of Johnson/Sanchez were moved, I can't decide who I'd rather see traded. Both have pros and cons. I'd probably lean towards keeping Sanchez and trading Johnson if push came to shove, but I really don't know. I really don't think either should be moved honestly. If the Sox don't upgrade that position then you need a fall back plan. Micah has the chance for better offense and Sanchez is the better defender. If the Sox say go with Sanchez next year and he can't hit worth a lick then you have Micah to back him up. Sox can't afford to keep thinning the middle infield anymore .

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) you make a good point, but lets look into this a little further. dee gordon, 1 yr at ss if able, will be determine in ST. then anderson is up, ss and gordon moves to 2b. assuming nothing else in this equation .... his bat is too valuable to forgo the lucky chance of getting him. but what the hay, this is all fictional ideas. I think it would be pretty hard about trying to pry him away. I saw stuff that the Marlins are trying to extend him a contract.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 06:17 AM) again you are 100 % correct.... maybe it is b/c you are agreeing with me. but in all honesty, i was thinking that the sox will sign 1 player, and that will be Lawrie and for 3b. Sanchez has won that position from last yr play. MJ would be a great filler in a bigger trade that needed a player pkg to pull it off. but dang it, i would love to have gordon on the south side and playing ss. You have Anderson to play SS hopefully next year. Gordon plays 2nd and hasn't played SS in 2 years. Honestly Micah could be come Gordon if his defense improves and gets playing time to fully show what he can do. Also needs to stay healthy

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) The problem with a Lawrie/Saladino/Sanchez/Abreu infield is that there is very little power there besides Abreu. I don't see Sanchez and Saladino hitting over 10 homers each and Lawrie isn't known for his power either. I guess I'd be ok with that group if they all hit for high averages and played sparkling defense, but I don't see that as being realistic. No matter who they get for 3rd I still can't imagine the Sox running out saladino and Sanchez. I think one or the other plays and they fill the other position with someone else.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) Todd Frazier is just what the Sox need- a low-mid batting average, power hitter from the NL Even tho lawrie has played in AL he's the same as Frazier with alot less power.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Jim Bowden stated in his latest piece that WhiteSox top target is Todd Frazier with Brett Lawrie as the backup plan. Chicago White Sox Status: Retooling Top target: Todd Frazier The White Sox have been unable to get steady production from their third base spot for several years now, which is why they've targeted Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier via trade. The Reds certainly will listen, though Frazier, a fan favorite, is the one player they'd prefer not to trade, thus their asking price for the All-Star third baseman is through the roof. I see it as highly unlikely these two teams will match up in a trade of this magnitude. The White Sox would then turn to the A's and Brett Lawrie, who is expected to be traded this winter. Fall-back options: Lawrie, Pablo Sandoval, Trevor Plouffe, David Freese, Martin Prado Frazier definitely has more offense then lawrie. Tho what it might take to get Frazier might be out of the Sox price range. Alot of people complaining over the lack of power and Frazier would definitely help fill that gap. Abreu actually would have been second to homeruns this past year if Frazier was on the team. Lawrie still hasnt fully tapped in to his full potential so not sure what he can still be able to do. Lawrie is also younger but both have the same years of control left. Should be interesting
