  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) The Sox are in no position to be targeting a better player at 3rd base. It's close to catcher as far as good ones go. Sox need a guy there who can play everyday and still has upside and is fairly cheap. That's just what you're going to get. Sorry. They could be nce a position of targeting a better 3rd baseman if they used Quintana. The Sox have a guy who has upside and fairly cheap on avi but they cant seem to get anything better out of him. I could easily see lawrie regressing with the sox offensively
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) He was pretty healthy last year for the 1st time in a while and the Sox have a track record of keeping players healthier than average. I think he is just the type of guy the Sox are targeting more so than Valencia who is 5 years older. His K rate was way up , maybe swinging for the fences too much ,and his OBP sucks but I like he's an AL player. Good candidate for a bounce back ( way more so than LaRoche since I see his name being bandied about for a rebound). Maybe if he sticks at 3rd and plays less 2nd base his defense might also rebound. This is precisely who the Sox should be targeting for 2016. Micah Johnson for Lawrie straight up. Ya of course lawrie would be the guy they target cause he fits right on with their low average, chance for high power, high strikeouts and low obp. Im getting pretty tired of sox going after these type of players. If lawries power goes down with the Sox then you have another dunn/Laroche. Sox can't afford to continue to have these type of players and we know the sox can't correct the offense issue in these players
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Yea, but Valencia has almost exclusively hit against lefties since his rookie year because he has been so bad against righties. He is only a platoon, you are still looking for a 3b And that is not me endorsing Lawrie, that guy is never healthy Valencia splits are pretty good against righties last year. Had about 70 more at bats against righties
  4. I think they were needing bullpen help.

  6. http://m.sfgate.com/news/article/Jed-Lowri...-to-6657610.php Ran across this article. Basically with the A's getting Jed Lowrie they will either move Brett Lawrie or Danny Valencia. Both of them are drawing interest from AL teams. Sox could use either of them tho with Brett lawries offense falling in line with sox hitters I would rather get Valencia who produced better numbers.
  7. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) The same Adrian Nieto Sox have put on the major league roster to protect his status? LOL Shows how desperate the Sox are in need of catching at the time
  8. He was granted free agency on Nov. 6th http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nietoad01.shtml
  9. Rick Hahn says it's too early to say how playing time will be divided between Avila and Flowers at catcher. https://twitter.com/ESPNChiSox/status/669573109654138889 Hahn talks about flexibility behind the plate provided by the Avila signing https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/669573159591542788 Hahn says that while Avila's numbes have declined, he still can get on base and hit for power vs. righties. https://twitter.com/ESPNChiSox/status/669573753920188416 Hahn said catcher's market has moved a little more quickly than other markets. Avila was a White Sox target https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/669573988327276545
  10. Alex Avila fun fact: He was teammates with #WhiteSox David Robertson in college at Alabama in 2006. https://t.co/GTkDvhar07 https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/669558072055103488
  11. Honestly, after Wieters took the QO, your FA catching market was Chris Iannetta, Geovany Soto, Dioner Navarro, Bryan Pena and Alex Avila https://twitter.com/WriteSox/status/669557890898919426 I wonder with the 1 year deal if they will try for wieters next year
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) Will he be the starter or the backup? Flowers will catch Sale no matter what, but I wonder what Avila's role will be. For less than $3 million, I like this signing. Platooning with flowers
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) Even when he was terrible last year at the plate, he got on at a .340 clip. So there's that. Hey was injured most of last year
  14. “Alex gives us a veteran presence behind the plate who provides solid defense and a productive left-handed bat." -- Sox VP/GM Rick Hahn https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/669551815348875264
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) f***. I liked him, especially as a backup. If the Sox are going to upgrade the catcher position I expect flowers to move to backup
  16. Sources: 3B Jae-gyun Hwang is expected to be posted by the Lotte Giants tomorrow. Teams would have until next week to place a blind bid. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/669312536743837696
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) With this acquisition, is Albers as good as gone? One of the pen guys going to be traded? Or just more depth in case of injury. I'm pretty sure albers was pretty much gone anyway. After he elected free agency there was stuff said that albers wanted a setup role and since the sox have that with Jones and Duke I doubt there's room for albers
  18. The White Sox announced that they have acquired right-hander Tommy Kahnle from the Rockies in exchange for minor league right-hander Yency Almonte (Twitter link). Kahnle was designated for assignment by the Rockies last Friday in a series of moves to set the club’s roster in advance of the Rule 5 Draft. Kahnle, who turned 26 in August, came to the Rockies from the Yankees organization by way of the Rule 5 Draft in 2013. He’s totaled 102 innings for the Rox over the past two years — his lone MLB experience — and posted a 4.41 ERA while averaging exactly one strikeout per inning to go along with a strong 49.4 percent ground-ball rate. Kahnle’s problem, however, has been a lack of control. Though he’s averaged 95 mph on his fastball in the Majors (95.9 mph in 2015), he’s averaged 5.2 walks per nine innings pitched and issued an alarming 27 unintentional walks in 33 1/3 innings this past season. The 21-year-old Almonte came to the Sox as the player to be named later in the 2014 deal that sentGordon Beckham to the Angels. Almonte spent the 2015 campaign pitching for Class-A Kannapolis and Class-A Advanced Winston-Salem, posting a combined 3.41 ERA with 7.2 K/9 against 2.5 BB/9 in 137 1/3 innings (22 starts; 24 total appearances). He didn’t rank among Chicago’s Top 30 prospects, per MLB.com. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/whit...de-rockies.html Strike outs and ground ball rate is probably the appealing things for sox. Coop can fix control might be pretty good
  19. http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/11/24/erik-john...-pitcher-health Interesting read on how he fixed his mechanics to get back to the dominant pitcher in 2015
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) Hey man, I'm with ya. I've said numerous times I don't think the Sox would or should trade Q. The pitching foundation of Sale,Q and Rodon is about as solid as it gets. Add the potential of Fulmer and Montas and it really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Imo, Puig and his bulls*** are not a fit for the Sox and I really hope the Sox do not trade for him. There are many other players the Sox can look into in an effort to better the team. Besides, while the Sox could use an upgrade in RF I'd rather focus resources on upgrading 3B, SS, C and to a lesser extent 2B. So the Sox would have a good rotation but horrible offense. That's not going to work. Unfortunately it's the you have to give something in order to get something. The Sox have some nice prospects but not enough to fill all the holes in the offense. Trading multiple prospects and emptying the farm system is not going to work. The only real option is to trade Quintana for a small army of hitters to help. Sox can absorb Quintana loss a bit more.
  21. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...ig?sf15772111=1 Sox listed number 2. Says Dodgers would probably want Quintana but Dodgers would have to add more then just puig
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) First day, he teaches everyone how to run into outfield walls as hard as possible. Eaton is ahead of the curve then lol
  23. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 22, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Sports Mockery posted this article the other day. Some intriguing ideas, though I'm not sure I'd be on board with all of them. - Trade LaRoche, Flowers and cash to PHI for DH Ryan Howard - Trade Quintana, Garcia, Montas and Jones to LAD for RF Yasiel Puig and 3B Jacob Turner - Sign C Jarrod Saltalamacchia - Sign LHP Mark Buehrle - Sign LHP Neal Cotts - Re-sign C Geovany Soto Projected lineup: 1. Adam Eaton CF 2. Melky Cabrera LF 3. Yasiel Puig RF 4. Jose Abreu 1B 5. Ryan Howard DH 6. Justin Turner 3B 7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia C 8. Tyler Saladino SS 9. Carlos Sanchez 2B Projected rotation: Chris Sale LHP Carlos Rodon LHP Erik Johnson RHP Mark Buehrle LHP John Danks LHP Projected 2016 payroll: $128 million Thoughts? I'm not comfortable with Saladino as our starting SS, and I definitely think the LAD trade would be an overpay on the Sox part. I'd prefer to get their young catcher Austin Barnes back in that deal. Apparently they are making a mockery of the Sox in those deals. Ryan Howard has 25 million on his 2016 contract vs 13 for Laroche. Why would the Sox send Philly money when it should be the other way around. The Sox are way overpaying in the Dodgers deal. That would be fleecing the sox. Plus I doubt the Dodgers want garcia. If they move puig they are probably going after one of the top outfielders on the market like Heyward.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) If people want Ozuna so badly, trade Avi for him. Change of destination trade. Both have basically sucked: too little OBP and too many Ks. You could try to make that trade but with the Marlins wanting starting pitching in return for ozuna it probably won't work for avi. The main point is why does anyone want ozuna. It's not a one of the main position of need and trading to get him would not make sense and wood be poor choice to spend what little resources this organization has.
  25. Per @MLBPipeline, highly ranked Rule 5-eligible #WhiteSox prospects NOT added to 40-man: Ps Onelki Garcia, Myles Jaye, 1B Keon Barnum. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/667868208834154498
