White sox open to trading Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (shakes @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) But that's just blind hope that it will be different this time. History tells us differently, and there is pretty overwhelming evidence that suggests their position player development system doesn't work. It's not very reasonable to judge one ML player based on a teams previous success or failure with other players. Looking at that players past and how far that player has come since being drafted is what matters. Anderson has progressed in most facets of the game and will begin the '16 season playing AAA at only 22 years of age so there's plenty to hopeful about but that hope is not blind due to his progression. Anderson has shown that his game is improving all the while moving up through the system.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) ref #1... i know, that is why i said it was erratic in thinking. ref #2. right now, without thinking any further i would definitely move Anderson to another position for D Gordon. i am with you Worst case scenario, the Sox would play Gordon at SS for one year until Anderson was ready to take over and move Gordon to 2B Otherwise, Gordon sticks at SS and with 2B up in the air, the Sox could move Anderson to 2B. Either way, that would be ALOT of defensive range up the middle. Good gravy!

Neil Walker on the Block
QUOTE (Special K @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) That's true. Guy who is available, can hit, and 29 years old. Why would we want him? It'd be unfair to the rest of the MLB if the Sox added even more to the rest of their potent offense. Sarcasm, well that's just so cute. Let me try.... The Sox have approximately 20M available to spend, The Sox need help at 3B, SS and C, which are bigger needs than 2B, Not sure what Walker would cost but those prospects could be used to help acquire a 3B, SS or C, The Sox have plenty of young talent that can potentially play 2B such as Sanchez, Micah and Saladino at a fraction of Walker's cost which would allow the Sox to spend available funds on one or more of the important positions that need to be filled. The Sox would be spending prospects +10M for one year of Walker. Add all that up and ya get trading for Walker is just a dumb idea for a team like the Sox with the position they are in. If the Sox were closer to contending with only one or two positional needs, it would be a different story, but that's not the case now is it? The Sox are not in a position where they can waste more money or prospects. Both resources need to be spent wisely due to the limited supply. Welcome to the White Sox conundrum. I genuinely feel for the FO because they are in a very tough spot.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) Were my proposals bad? I tried to keep it somewhat realistic. Actually, no. Although I want nothing to do with Puig so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) oh man, i am hurt... i think. maybe not. should i be.. too many questions to think about this late at nite. While I like you're thinking outside the box, your plan has more moving pieces than a chess board. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) speaking of dee gordon, i really wish i can figure out is the marlins would trade him and what would be the cost. I've been wondering about his availability myself. Would love to add Gordon, play him at SS and bat him leadoff with Eaton #2.

Dear gawd the Sox better make a trade soon because these proposals are getting worse every day. f***ing hell...

Neil Walker on the Block
We've all read Hahn's comments on what the Sox are looking for and Walker does not fit the description. End of story.

Kershaw wants Puig off the Dodgers?
If what Andy says is true, sounds like it wasn't just Grienke that has a problem with Puig. Glad Puig is the Dodgers problem.

Neil Walker on the Block
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) I dont think you'd have to give up a lot of valuable trade chips for Walker Maybe not but last I read, the Sox have roughly 20M to spend on filling out the roster. Spending half of that on Walker to play 2B with holes at 3B, C and SS makes no sense to me at all. The Sox have plenty of in-house options for 2B and could better utilize 10M.
-
Neil Walker on the Block
No thanks to Walker. Sure he could net the Sox a comp pick for the '17 draft but will that pick be worth what the Sox give up to acquire Walker is the question. I'm fine with Sanchez or Micah at 2B and would rather use resources to trade for a 3B, C or SS.

My/Your Off Season Plan

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) No idea. The two teams I've been told the Cubs have spoken to specifically are the Indians and the White Sox. https://t.co/lZXrenKF5p https://twitter.com/JulieDiCaro/status/667062207369388032 @JulieDiCaro @jgaepi so the White Sox have talked to the cubs about Baez and/or Soler? https://twitter.com/whisox05/status/667066288280240128 @whisox05 @jgaepi Don't know what names were discussed on the Cubs end. The discussions were about pitching. Assume Quintana was the target. https://twitter.com/JulieDiCaro/status/667106773996843009 Ran across the tweet. I tweeted her and she replied back. Ha ha. If there was a trade between the Chicago teams, watch it be something like Villanueva and Vogelbach for Erik Johnson + A ball pitcher. I can hear fans from both teams go " wait, whaaaat"?

White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) The last thing the Sox front office needs to do is listen to the desperation expressed here. Agreed. Although....... reading this board could be entertaining to the FO after having a few drinks.

White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) Right. If every team had their plan in place, there would be a whole lot more player movement by now. There is no November 18th trade or signing deadline. I think some fans have become impatient due to a few trades have already happened. Just because the Sox weren't involved doesn't mean they won't be involved in the near future. Good grief, the off season is just getting going.

White Sox still deciding on what to do
This quote from KW says it all and I agree. “I’ve been there so I certainly understand,” Williams said. “A lot of things are in play right now. I know it can be confusing, but it’s completely understandable from my perspective that this is what you do before you decide on the definitive plan.” There are so many uncontrollable variables involved and that's what these meetings are for. The Sox can't sit here say they want to trade for player A if player A is not available so its Hahn's job to have discussions with other GM's to see who's available and what Sox players they might be interested in. Another variable is where JR sets the payroll ceiling at. Relax Sox fans, its mid November, not mid February. Too many fans reading way too far into nothing at all.

Jose Fernandez rumored to be traded
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Any good player that may be traded, we gotta get. How about fixing holes at C, 3b, SS, LF, RF, DH and in the pen and in the farm first? Does Fernandez make this a playoff team? He's a 10 game improvement pitcher? Good gracious. No kidding! Trade the farm for a young pitcher and still field a team that cannot provide run support all the while complain about the farm being a barren waste land. I don't get it...

Sale switching Sox?
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 05:38 PM) Major blockbuster proposal: SP Chris Sale, CF Adam Eaton, and SS Tim Anderson for SS Xander Bogaerts, CF Mookie Betts, C Blake Swihart, 3B Rafael Devers, and SP Eduardo Rodriguez Who says no? I would do that deal in a heartbeat which tells me Boston emphatically says no. I have a hard time believing Boston would trade Bogarerts and Betts.

Should the White Sox and Rockies talk trade?
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Thats the negative you take by adding Blackmon. Reyes salary and recent domestic abuse nonsense is not worth a 29 year old outfielder. That's a really bad deal for the Sox.

David Robertson
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) I won't because what the prospects do is irrelevant. I think it's bad because they could have used those same prospects to get someone more valuable. I think Fulmer has a better chance at being a starting pitcher than Montas does so I disagree there as well. Boston still prospects and MLB talent to trade for pitching and they have money to sign pitching so its really not a big deal using those prospects to help the back end of their pen. Fulmer has his small size and an extremely high effort delivery just to throw mid 90's whereas Montas has the big durable size and throws upper 90's with relative ease. However, both pitchers need to do a better job of controlling the strike zone and commanding their pitches. If I had to get on which sticks as a starter, it would be Montas. Montas is still very raw and young. 22 is way too early to give up on a pitcher like him.
-
David Robertson
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Let's see if Montas actually fails as a starter before we relegate him to closer. Even a solid fourth starter has more value than a closer. Couldn't agree more. Montas was frustrating to watch at times but as its already been said, he's only 22 so there's no reason to doubt his potential. SOX fans need to be patient. I've had doubts myself but then I look at video of his stuff and realize there's still huge upside in Montas. Just my opinion but I think Montas has more upside than Fulmer and would prefer the Sox traded Fulmer instead of Montas, if one of them is to be traded that is. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) Margot was their #3 prospect. Guerra is going to be really good in my opinion. People keep saying that those guys are blocked anyway which I do understand. It doesn't mean you should trade them for a guy that will give you 60 innings of value per year though. It's a bad trade. My bad, didn't realize Margot was rated that high. On paper it does look like a bad trade but I'll wait on actually saying it is a bad trade until those prospects develop into something or flop.
-
David Robertson
While I believe Robertson has value, I don't think it's as much as Kimbrel due to Kimbrel being a better closer. The Padres got some nice talent in return but one thing to remember is that Boston did not give up any of their best talent. I really don't know what to expect in a return for Robertson but I do know that I keep my expectations somewhat low.

Sale switching Sox?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 07:30 AM) I think you'll hear about it more next year if the White Sox miss the playoffs again. Next year's free agent pitchers are 1. Stephen Strasburg 2. Brett Anderson................... I think you're right. Next year would be the year to trade either Sale or Q. One more year gives Rodon another year of building his innings and developing into the ace of the staff, gives Montas and Fulmer time to develop into potential MLB starters and buys time for the likes of Adams, Guerrero etc to move into the upper minors. IMHO, trading Sale or Q now would be a year too soon.
-
Sale switching Sox?
I think the insane price aces will get make Sale's value even higher, not lower. But, I don't expect any team to actually give up full value for Sale either which is why I'm confident Sale will be the White Sox opening day starter in '16. Nothing wrong with discussions on what he could bring back in a trade though and especially since us fans haven't had much to talk about so far.
