QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) That is why Johnson should be playing everyday..........Sox know what Sanchez can't do. We disagree on Sanchez I say utility player, you say no. Johnson was sent down due to his poor defense and also why he wasn't re called until September. I like Johnson's bat and his wheels but his defense is putrid and the guys has issues with staying healthy. Too bad the Sox cannot combine Sanchez's defense/health with Micah's bat/wheels. That would be a hell of a player.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) Why would it change? Sanchez booted an easy DP ball that would've gotten him out of the inning. As I said, its just a guess.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) According MLB, Sale has no earned runs. Is that right? Just a guess but I think that's going to change. The error was made with one out in a 0-0 game.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Or you know they could not having him throw 110+ pitches in June. This franchise is f***ing retarded. I see and agree with your point. I didn't understand it myself when the Sox were running his pitch counts so high and so early in the season.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) If you think Sanchez is the answer at 2B, glad you are not running the front office. By the looks of it since 2008 the people you hold in such high standard have zero playoff appearances. They are great though I'm only talking about Sanchez so I don't know who you mean when you say "people". I never said Sanchez is or is not the answer. Just willing to wait and see what he brings the rest of this season and in 2016. With so many holes to fill, Sanchez is hardly the biggest problem on this team. Young players take time to develop and if you look at Sanchez history in the minors, he has struggled each time he moved up, then adapted and hit well so I have no problem with giving him playing time to see if he can adapt to MLB pitching. Sanchez is still quite young.

The Sox need to push Sale a bit in an effort to build his endurance. Sale will never be an October playoff pitcher if he tires out in September. As long as Sale is healthy he should be out there for as many starts as he can make.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:08 PM) Yes he does he is utility player nothing more. So a 23 year old in his first full season is deemed a utility player, got it. Glad you aren't running the FO. Anyway. After the Sanchez error there was one out and a man on second. It's not Sanchez fault Sale gave up 6 runs after the error. Let's not forget that Sale has not been pitching well and it was not Sanchez that threw the meatball for a slam.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Sanchez has a long way to go to be a everyday 2nd baseman. You cannot be serious. Sanchez commits his 5th error in 103 games and he has a long way to go?

II think this kills any hopes Sox fans have of Cespedes. "I'm not thinking about a contract, but I do know that I will be looking for a contract that is six years or more, has to be six years or more. We'll see what happens." http://m.mlb.com/news/article/150363314/yo...6-year-contract Not trying to rain on anyone's hopes, just keeping trying to keep things in perspective is all. Signing a 30 year old FA to a six year 100M+ contract is not a typical Sox move and understably so.

Was Coghlan pulled after fouling one off the knee? Looking at the box score it looks like he just had two a bats.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 39s39 seconds ago Most #WhiteSox rookies liked their costumes. Carlos Rodon didn't seem as pleased with his revealing nurse costume. Gotta disagree with Hayes on that. Micah looks the most un-pleased. Funny photo!

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Heymans article makes me lol... I guarantee that guy has not watched Shark pitch one game this year. I'm not sure that guy knows just how bad Shark has been... his fastball is okay... not great. The rest of his pitches are pure meatballs. Heyman insinuates that the defense was bad and the coaching has sucked... defense can't stop the ball from being launched over the fence over and over. That article was funny and out of touch. I especially found this quote to be hilarious... "He'll get dinged a little bit, but there's too much good stuff there," one longtime market observer said. "One bad month isn't going to matter much." One bad month? Let's see here. April: 4.78 ERA May : 3:00 ERA June: 5.75 ERA July: 2.27ERA August: 8.82 ERA September: 10.13ERA For a guy that's supposed to be a front line starter I see more than " one bad month". Whom ever Heyman spoke with needs to pass the Absinthe this way.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) This would be a terrible move from Samardzija's side. If he has a QO attached to him it will cost him a lot of money as a free agent compared to if he has no QO attached to him. Could even keep him from being signed at all until mid-June. If Shark bait truely does not want to return to the south side then this might be best for both sides and that's what I'm hoping for. Key word is 'hoping'. This is a horrible situation for both the Sox and Shark bait. If the Sox offer the QO it does hurt Shark bait but if the Sox do not, it helps Shark bait and hurts the Sox. This is a very messy predicament for the Sox but they put their self in this by trading for a player that has been very adamant on going to FA because for some stupid reason they thought they could extend him based on Shark bait growing up a Sox fan.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Why do people keep writing this? It doesn't make sense. There is no scenario in which not giving a QO makes sense. 1. Best case scenario, Sox give Shark the QO and he declines. White Sox get a top 35 pick. 2. Another scenario, White Sox give him the QO and he accepts. They can then either let him pitch all year to recoup some value and give him another QO next offseason or they could trade him during the season. Those are the options. Letting him become a free agent and getting nothing in return just doesn't make any sense. Luckily, it won't happen. I would be stunned if the Sox didn't give him the QO. I'd be just as stunned if he accepted it. he doesn't want to be here. He's wanted to be a free agent forever. I would answer your question but the post you quoted is the answer. If the Sox waste that much money on Shark bait, where do they come up with money to improve the offense? Just a week or two ago I would be in agreement with you that there's no way Shark bait accepts but honestly, if I were in his shoes I would would have a difficult time turning down 16M considering the season he has had and the terrible numbers he's put up. Not trying to take a cheap shot at you Jimmy but the mentality of " getting nothing in return" is something I would expect to hear from KW. At some point the Sox will have to accept they made a horrible trade and move on. If they are smart they come away with a lesson learned and that lesson is to not trade with Oakland. What I'm hoping for is that Shark bait informs the Sox he's not interested in returning so the Sox may extend the offer to which Shark bait rejects and get the comp pick. Kind of a gentleman's agreement before the end of the WS.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) I don't see the downside of giving him the QO and he accepts. Shark could be bad, but odds are he's going to be much closer to the guy he was vs. 2015. He's also going to be insanely motivated (of course he was probably already insanely motivated this year) but I think even more so. You get him for the year and then deal him at the deadline (if you aren't in contention). If you contend, great, you got him for another year and can still attach a QO offer after this season and get your draft pick compensation. And if he takes the QO and totally sucks, well, that isn't going to impact your long-term strategy anyway. That's 16M that could be spent on the offense for a team that desperately needs it. Also, I see a huge problem with paying a pitcher that kind of money for a 5+ ERA. Just my thoughts.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Someone will be the first eventually. I'm still of the position not to offer him a QO. Even if there's a miniscule chance of keeping Shark for another season I wouldn't risk it considering his pitiful season. Agreed. Samardzija's last 3 or 4 starts have changed my perspective quite a bit. I thought there was no chance he would accept but now, he just might and there's no way I would take the chance on him accepting and earning around 16M next year. Time for the Sox FO to accept they made a horrible trade and move on from the Shark bait nightmare. The 16M needs to be spent on the offense and not Shark bait.

Avi at 3B is not a good idea, even with the Sox as desperate as they are for a 3B. I think a better idea might be to move LaRoche to the bench, Melky to DH, Avi to LF and Thompson to RF. I think it's possible that Avi could turn into a decent left fielder.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 10:07 PM) The Pirates really took the high road on this one. Lawrie slid hard into Escobar early in the season and that started a bean-ball war of epic proportions. Take out slides should be legal, but the runner should have his feet inside the base path, not horizontal to the base trying to trip the fielder. Kang wasn't even that close to second when he got slid into. Coghlan went well out of his way to kick Kang in the knee. Couldn't agree more, the Pirates showed alot of class. I think Coghlan taking Kang out at the knee is the worst part of that play. There's no reason to go that high to take out a player.
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) It's also not real Neither is your insight on the play this discussion is about...
-
I have no problem with a late slide but when the base runner extends their legs out sideways to take out the 2B, that's some bulls***. It's cool, karma is a real mother and this s*** will come back around in some fashion. May Kang have a speedy recovery.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
BlackSox13 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Samardzija pitched for the Cubs when they couldn't score him runs. He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before. But it is indicative of what kind of pitcher he is now and that's what is important when considering he is going on age 31 and a free agent. I give Balta alot of credit because he has been pointing out stats throughout the season that show Shark baits regression, namely K/BB rates plus Shark bait has given up a significant amount of hits compared to seasons past. Some of this can be chalked up to USC and a poor defense but we've seen how Shark bait leaves a ton of pitches hanging over the plate and has been hit hard. Just my opinion but Shark bait has already peaked. I will say that I don't think he will be as bad in the future as he has been this year but he will not be what he once was either. -
