  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 31, 2015 -> 07:16 AM) Davidson is hitting .216 in AAA for the month of May. He is also hitting .258 with 6HR in 66 at bats against left handed pitchers in AAA.
  2. Found this. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2...87&sid=t487 "Left-handed pitcher Jordan Guerrero - the South Atlantic League's leader in ERA, strikeouts, and innings pitched - has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to May 23." Should be coming back since Kanny has him listed as being on the seven day DL. Could come off the DL and go to Winston.
  3. Nice touch with the "whiffle ball bats". One option could be to play Beckham at second with Davidson at third to get some more pop in the lineup against left handed starters. Surprisingly enough Davidson only has one error on the season in 45 games at third. Not sure if that's due to a limited range but at least his throws are accurate. I'm not sure what I would do against right handed starters.
  4. The Sox are last in the AL in runs scored and faced a pitcher that leads the AL in ERA. The results today are not surprising one bit. Defensively the Sox are better off with Beckham at 3B and Sanchez at 2B but offensively the lineup is better with Gillaspie and Beckham. Which to choose? The lack of options really make this debatable.
  5. I could be wrong but when Peavy was traded to Boston in 2013 he was also still under contract for the 2014 season which added value to the trade. Shark on the other hand is a true rental since he's a FA at the end of the 2015 season.
  6. Tate 8IP 6H 4ER 1BB 11K Pretty darn good considering he gave up three runs in the first two innings.
  7. And to think Houston could have had McCullers and Rodon in their rotation. Thanks again Houston and go Sox!
  8. Davidson and Thompson each with 2R HR's
  9. Very well written raBBit and thanks for posting this Northside. I really hope Jay is available at #8.
  10. Good points Balta. Hamels comes with control through the 18 season with an option for 19 which surely adds value as long he continues to perform. LDF, I think you and just see things a bit differently. I really hope you're right as far as Sharks value.
  11. Following along online. Looking at the box score it looks like Sale is throwing peas! 82 pitches with 60 of those being strikes. Very nice!
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 28, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Plenty Laroche (Cardinals) Samardzija (numerous teams). Alexei Duke All would bring value Sign samardzija in the offseason if we want (although he isn't an ace) They absolutely would bring value. "rebuild the farm" of course not. Value? Yes. Waiting until winter further diminishes value - there are contenders now who need a SS. If you were the GM of a contending team, just how much would you give up for an aging/declining SS or a starting pitcher that got off to a bad start and will only be a two or three month rental? IMO, I would not be willing to give up much for either one of them if I were a GM looking to upgrade. Let's also keep in mind that fans almost always over value their teams players.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 28, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) But it can be But again, you move Sanchez to SS, which was not his primary position in the minors, when he pretty much has shown he needs time in AAA as his bat and walk/SO ratio is horrible. If that is what Hahn is thinking, they should have stuck w Johnson and played Sanchez at SS in Charlotte until Alexei could be moved. Then you have to bring up another infielder to play 2B or play Gordon full time. Playing young players when they really belong in the minors can cause long-term problems for some kids. IMO, Sanchez belongs on the Sox, at least long enough to see what he can do. Sanchez also has the range and strong enough arm to play SS plus he has youth on his side. Alexei has been declining in every aspect of his game. Just take a look at some of the game threads lately, lots of complaints about bone headed mistakes made by Alexei. Problem with the idea of trading Alexei is his lack of value. He will not net much of a return but then again, an aging and declining SS does not hold much value to a teams future either which is why I have no problem moving on from Alexei.
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) Samardzija is the obvious move for the front office. They could always resign him, as a free agent, in the off season, if they really think they want him back. My question is how much better would the return be, if they agree to pay all of his remaining salary, for this season. This organization could really use some more good prospects. Have you looked at how our Minor League players are hitting? Just dreadful!!! I could be wrong but I don't see the Sox giving money with Samardzija in a trade no matter what. If the Sox don't like the trade offers for Shark they simply keep him and take the comp pick in next years draft if he does not resign. I agree that overall the minors are dreadful as far as hitters go. There are a few guys worth getting excited over but overall it's unimpressive. Trading Shark and/or Alexei will not replenish the farm, they just do not hold that kind of value. The only way is for the Sox to entertain the idea of trading one or more of their core players which I doubt happens. Like I said, just have to ride it out and see what winter brings. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 28, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) You can trade Alexei but it may be a better investment to keep him. Who plays SS once he is gone. Unless you trade him ( or Shark) for a SS ML ready prospect, it may be better holding and letting the Charlotte infielders continue to develop. We have already learned that Sanchez and Johnson both needed more time in AAA before they were pushed into ML playing time. Alexei has been declining for a while now. If the Sox are not going to compete this year then keeping Alexei does nothing. Keep him for next year as he continues to decline? No thanks, I'll hand the SS position to Sanchez and see what he can do with it for the remainder of the season in order to get a better idea of what needs to be done over winter in preparation for next season. QUOTE (WBWSF @ May 28, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) 1) I would rather sign Shark to a long term deal. A rotation of Sale, Shark, Rodon, and Quintana solves alot of problems going into 2016. We need a 5th starter. 2) Alexi is 34 years old. You're not going to much for him. Unless they just want to get rid of his salary, it doesn't make any sense to trade him for nothing. Its going to cost 100M+ for Sharks next contract, thanks but definitely no thanks. Holding onto a declining 34 yo SS makes even less sense on a non competitive team. Last winter was the time to trade Alexei, his value has done nothing but drop since. The time for a good return on Alexei has passed so take what you can get for him and move forward.

  16. Looks like Haviland will be starting for Charlotte tonight.
  17. It feels so good seeing threads like this again. Good to see the offense come back and fight for this one. Hopefully this can be a starting point for turning things around.
  18. Samardzija is pitching better and as long as he continues to do so he should bring back a decent return. Color me overly optimistic but I think Alexei will heat up with the weather and turn himself into a trade candidate. Might fetch a decent return. That's about it as far as significant returns by trade, excluding core players like Sale, Q, Rodon, Abreu, Robertson and Avi. Just have to weather the storm Sox fans.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) Was wondering the same thing. They did just promote Onelki Garcia from BHAM, and he has started before (though not this year). Maybe they have a bullpen day? I think your idea of a bullpen day with Onelki starting is what's going to happen. I just looked at Charlotte's site and they still show Beck as the starter so I think your idea is the best we have to go by.
  20. Charlotte is showing Beck as today's starter but we all know Beck will start tomorrow for the Sox so any guesses as to whom starts for Charlotte?
  21. Quinavry. I can appreciate you trying to get some optimism going during these tough times. Things I'm optimistic about, Players like Sale, Q and Abreu returning to performing at the higher level they usually play at. Players such as Shark, Alexei, Cabrera and LaRoche improving enough to become viable trade options or at least show they have something positive to contribute to future Sox teams. Not something I'm counting, probably wishful thinking on part. David Robertson. Despite last nights blown save, I'm still very happy he is the closer and consider Robertson one of very few positive things about the 2015 season so far. Carlos Rodon. Yes he has struggled but that's just growing pains and am very optimistic on his future. He will be fine. Still optimistic about the Sox long term future rotation built around Sale, Q and Rodon. Avi has been a pleasant surprise with the bat. Beckham becoming a solid contributor off the bench. There are some things to be optimistic about, they are just out weighed by the teams overall s***ty performance. In all honesty. Looking at team stats and individual stats, I'm surprised the Sox record is not worse than it is.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ May 27, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) when did you get any intelligence??? bravo real nice. the other thing is when things goes bad, every little nick gets magnified. Lmao, good one LDF! I have been staying away due to my own high emotions and to be honest, I have the same complaints and concerns as everyone else so it would be redundant for me to post my frustrations. You're right, every little thing is magnified right now due to an overall bad performance and elevated expectations going into this season which just adds to the difficultly in keeping the emotions in check. Trying times for Sox fans indeed.
  23. This thread has been an interesting read to say the least. Lots of emotions and its understandable. Going into last winter everyone knew of the many holes the Sox had and the front office did the best they could to fill as many of those holes as possible. For many reasons things have not worked out in the first two months and I blame the organization as a whole and not just certain individuals. From JR to the fricken towel boy are to be held accountable. All have failed to do their part and have contributed to this mess of a so called baseball team. The emotional part of me wants to tear this motha apart and restock the farm but that's just frustration on my part and do not really want to see a full scale rebuild. IMO, it would be a viable option with the right front office but this is not the right FO. In the end, all I can do is to continue to support the Sox with blind fandom because there are no realistic options for me. I just cannot bail on a team ive been cheering for so many years and go searching for a new favorite because they are currently better than the Sox. For me, all I can do is hope the "core" players improve and the rest play well enough to have some trade value should another GM come calling. To those that might be considering finding a new team, I wish you well and hope you find what you seek. To those sticking it out, let's pull up a keg and tap that b**** because its looking like we have a long four months ahead of us.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) Didn't we have the discussion about it being a really big jump when Hawkins struggled there last year? Not sure to be honest but the difference is Guerrero is dominating whereas Hawkins was not. I'm not saying the Sox should or should not, just curious if its a realistic possibility.
  25. With Guerrero dominating Kanny, I wonder if the Sox would skip Winston and send Guerrero to Birmingham. Is Winston that big of a jump from Kanny?
