Anyone think that they trade off Keppinger and Elmore makes the roster for his ability to play everywhere and emergency catch? Bench: Back up catcher Konerko/Dunn (based on who starts that day) Garcia (IF/OF) Elmore (IF/OF/emergency catcher) Chances are, Konerko or Dunn on the bench are still going to get an at-bat every game hitting for the catcher late in the game. I know teams are iffy about taking the starting catcher out of the game, but with an emergency catcher like Elmore on the team, it could make them not worry about that so much if he only had to catch for an inning after the replacement were to get injured (big if that the backup would come in and get hurt). Just a thought and another option for the team.

Sign me up for Tanaka if we are able to negotiate with him. Sale Tananka Quintana Johnson Danks doesn't look too bad.

Hanigan traded to the Rays. Possible 3-team deal. Maybe since the Rays would then have Molina, Hanigan, and Lobaton, maybe we kicked in very little in the deal to grab Lobaton?
-
Sidenote: the deadline for being tendered. Has anyone heard anything about Beckham, De Aza, or Viciedo?
-
They should at least pick-up one of Hanson and Hudson. Wesley Wright, a left-handed reliever had a 3.69 era last year and threw in 70 games. He got non-tendered by Tampa. Any team not tight a money would have tendered him. The only few names I find interesting.
-
Tommy Hanson, 27 years old, was also non-tendered. He's also a guy with past success and injuries.
-
Agree he's only 26 too.

Seriously! Playing him literally blocks no one, there is no one in the minors coming up. If he was in a strict platoon with Flowers or Phegley, it would be effective. Him on a one year deal (or one year plus option) would be much better than going 4-5 years with Salty. And with a deep draft this year, maybe we end up taking a good catcher in the first couple rounds. It would also be great not giving up anyone from our system to fill the need.

With McCann to the Yanks, Ruiz to the Phillies, Navarro in as the starting catcher for the Jays, Rangers set on Soto as the catcher, and if the Red Sox end up with Salty, how many realistic options does AJ have? I know the Marlins are also in on Salty so I guess maybe they would be front-runners with AJ living in Florida?

Bring him on in. They could use another right handed starter with some experience. Let's re-do the Jackson/Hudson trade.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) Maybe things changed last year, but years ago when I went, current players were insanely expensive. Former players is where stuff got cheap. For example I picked up my game worn Bajenaru jersey for $75 the year after he went to AZ. Any current players (at the time) started at $200 and went up from there. It might be a shot in the dark, but the Sox do have a contact page. I have no idea who is in charge of the garage sale, but if you send an email using their generic contact page, someone will probably get you any information you want. I have a perfect record of hearing back from a real person any time I have sent in a question. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/help/index.jsp?c_id=cws Just out of curiousity, but why did you want a Jeff Bajenaru jersey?

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson

I wouldn't want Granderson unless it meant Dunn was the odd man out making Viciedo the DH. Otherwise, its a deep draft, lets not waste our high draft position. -

Isn't it supposed to be a deep draft this year? We shouldn't be signing guys who are tied to draft picks when we have chance to finally bring in a lot of talent with our high draft slot. I hope there is a good catcher around for the second or third round that can develop quickly. -
Seriously...I'll take any rumor at this point.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) 347 is the original, pre-remodel, dimensions. It is 335 and 330 to the corners. Ah thanks for the help. I wish it was still that big.
-
I just looked them up and a few sites had it listed as 347 down the lines....that doesn't seem right. I could have sworn it was like 335 unless they just moved them back recently and I missed that news?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) Dunn would be an expensive platoon for Pittsburgh. That team isnt exactly free spending That's why I was saying include some cash
-
I just saw that Jones got DFA'd. You think Pittsburgh would have any interest in Adam Dunn as a platoon partner with Gaby Sanchez? People will probably say that Jones is poor man's Adam Dunn, but Dunn actually would homer and get on-base more. Maybe Dunn plus cash for (?)? Then we could slide Viciedo into the DH/1B role and get a more athletic outfielder to play center or left.
-
I think Jaso platooned with Phegley or Flowers (or Hannigan if we could get both?) or a buy low in Grandal (suspended for PEDS, wasn't good last year, but still 25 and a switch-hitter) would be solid options.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) I posted this in another thread. As I noticed the same thing about their 1B-2B-3B all being left-handed. Looking at their roster as is you would think that Kozma would be the backup infielder. Kepp doesn't seem like a Cardinal but I agree the fit is there. Kepp would at least be a veteran presence off the bench. Kozma could stick on the roster as a backup late-inning defensive replacement at short for Peralta. I don't know if there is room for Descalso since he is also left-handed and pretty much all their starters are as well unless he has any outfield experience. Then he could be a Skip Schumaker type player for them coming off the bench as an infielder/outfielder. They can go with a bench of: catcher LH or RH Keppinger RH (1B/2B/3B) Kozma RH (2B/SS) Descalso LH (2B/3B/SS/OF) Bourjos RH/Jay LH (OF/late inning replacement for Craig in right)
-
With the Cards infield mostly being left-handed (Adams, Wong, Carpenter) and Mo during the press conference saying that he is looking to improve the bench, do you think the Sox would be able to possibly unload Keppinger on the Cards? Right handed bench bat capable of playing all three of those positions. Could possibly end up being a platoon player with Wong if he struggles early on.

I wonder what it would cost to get both Headley and Grandal from San Diego

Looks like no Alexei to St. Louis afterall

I hope we trade for a young catcher. Not really liking the free agent options. I would rather see AJ back on like a one year (+ team option for '16) than to sign Saltalamacchia for more than 4 though.
