  1. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/04/sports/b...ncher.html?_r=0 http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1837558...akas-abused-arm Hopefully this will scare people off. Injury waiting to happen. Not really no. How many mlb teams have their ace out there for even 120 pitches anymore? He wouldn't be handled that was here.
  2. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) one can only hope it's Heath. Im guessing Heath or Molina
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Big minor league numbers, not so good MLB numbers in limited time. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=surkam001eri Sounds like a Coop project
  4. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) I hope we dont trade away Beckham, he's due for a breakout year IMHO. We've all heard this song enough
  5. I saw that Mulder wants to sign a minor league deal somewhere. He grew up a Sox fan. I wouldn't mind if they brought him in on a minor league deal to compete with Veal and Leesman for the other lefty bullpen spot.
  6. Not that excited about Murphy, but then again I'm also not very excited about Flowers, P hegley, or Nieto. I think if we add a catcher, Flowers is gone with Nieto, Phegley, Gimenez battling for the backup spot (or 2 of those 3 make the team if new catcher needs a little minor league time).
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) Casey McGehee. More of a proven commodity than Gillaspie. Thats why I was using past tense kind of words
  8. I thought with the Marlins needing a third baseman, Gillaspie may have been a fit. Would have been cheap for them and not cost much and help us open up a spot on the 40-man
  9. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) That would work. Gillaspie could be pretty solid in that ballpark and decent replacement for A-Rod's inevitable suspension
  10. Love the idea of making Jones a closer this year and hoping we could flip him in either June/July or next year at this time for another near-ready MLB top 100 prospect.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) While not as good as he was earlier in his career, Dunn has been pretty close to as advertised the past two seasons. 2011 was obviously an epic failure, but the guy has blasted 75 home runs the past two seasons. That's Adam Dunn. I just checked his stats. In his career in Cincinnati, he hit 50 points higher than in Chicago. I wouldn't mind him as much if he hit about .250
  12. Morel, Heath, and Molina could be candidates to be dfa'd off of the 40
  13. I kind of want to get a Garcia jersey but with Garcia wearing 34 in the minors, he couldn't wear it because of Floyd over here. Do you think he may go back to 34 because it is open now? If so, that would make all sweaty Freddy jerseys relevant again lol
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) Because it would be mean to outright someone off the 40 right before Christmas? We could possibly see a trade. Lindstrom, Jones, Belisario, Downs, Petricka, Webb, Veal, probably Leesman (as 6th starter/long-reliever), Paulino (possibly if Rienzo out-pitches him in Spring Training and Rienzo makes it to start), then of course any break out young guy/veteran minor league signing who could possibly make it. That bullpen is getting a bit crowded I would say haha Or we outright Heath, Morel, or Molina off of it.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Before opening day, I'm thinking they get rid of Keppinger, Gillaspie, Flowers, and De Aza, and end up with a new starting catcher--and the group of Gimenez, Phegley, Gonzalez, and Nieto will compete for the backup. Lineup- Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu 1B Dunn DH Garcia RF Viciedo LF Davidson 3B New Catcher Beckham 2B Bench--Leury Garcia, Jordan Danks, Catcher, Paul Konerko Depends on who the other catcher is. If its Grandal, he could possibly hit second or sixth really
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) Padres are currently looking for a good set-up man according to their beat writers. They were discussing it on MLB Network if they're willing to "pay the price" to get one. (trade/FA) Oh, and too bad the Pirates weren't looking to take on salary. (I don't believe) They are trying to get a 1B and Dunn might be perfect for them. (If Hahn can convince them Dunn is an NL player, which he might be) Include Jones in a deal for Grandal? Maybe Grandal and low-level arm for Sanchez Rienzo Jones? And I don't understand why some people are concerned about trading a prospect (Sanchez). We would still getting a young player with team control for what 5 years (?) in an area where our organization is empty.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) I liked the first 2...then I got to the "either" part. I kinda just threw them in because the potential is still there, but maybe a switch to another organization and coaching might help. I don't know what kind of realistic deal we can make with them.
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 03:38 AM) If Hahn can get Grandal from the padres that would be huge, Hedges should make it to the show later this year and the projections expect Hundley to produce roughly the same WAR as last season. looking at the padres roster and farm it would appear they need MLReady starting pitching, and a solution at 2B/3B shortly. I think Headley fully intends to test the FA market seeing how thin third base is around baseball. Gyorko can slide over to 3B or remain at second depending on what they do. Their farm has a lot of nice arms and Hedges a few older OF bats in the low minors and Jace Peterson a good looking albeit old for his league SS that should be starting AA this year. I would think the sox would have to offer up something like E & M Johnson or Sanchez, flowers or phegley and maybe someone like Barnum. Or prospects the sox acquire by moving De Aza and Beckham. What about Sanchez, Rienzo, and either one of Thompson and Mitchell for Grandal?
  19. Just think....Sale Tanaka Quintana Johnson Danks Eaton Ramirez Dunn Abreu Garcia Viciedo Davidson Beckham (Catcher spot)
  20. Austin Hedges, a top prospect for the Padres has an ETA of 2015. They have a switch-hitting catcher in Yasmani Grandal now that they can trade and play Hundley for another year+ or however long it takes for Hedges to come up. But I would try to get Grandal. Not sure what it would take though.
  21. I see the backup catching spot being between Nieto Flowers or Phegley. I have a feeling they will definitely add a legit high upside starter. I predict Flowers to be traded towards the end of Spring Training and Phegley sent to AAA.
  22. I hope it would be Dunn honestly. I like the idea of Viciedo DHing and De Aza playing left and being flipped in June/July to a team that needs a left or center fielder. Edit: Paulie and De Aza would platoon in this situation I guess? De Aza against righties in left with Viciedo Dhing and Viciedo in left with Paulie DHing against lefties?
  23. So it looks like one of De Aza and Viciedo are likely to go and then Gillaspie and Keppinger? With L. Garcia or Elmore being the backup?
  24. Anyone think that Gillaspie could be moved next? Keppinger could just fill in at third until Davidson got promoted. I know Miami has been desperately looking for someone and Gillaspie has shown he can be decent and hes a left-handed bat.
