  1. They signed Christian Marrero (originally drafted by us in 2005) and re-signed Scott Carroll today
  2. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 01:55 AM) Kelly Johnson is going to be their starting 3B. Plus, at that ballpark now, it's a short porch to LF, CF, and RF. With Brian Roberts signed to play second, they should count on Kelly Johnson getting a lot of playing time at second base. Keppinger has the ability to play second and third so he may make sense for them in a platoon at third.
  3. Don't forget that teams are earning an extra $26 mill from the new mlb tv deal
  4. Derek Holland out until mid-season. Maybe the Rangers step up and become major players?
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) The thought of him is exciting. However, Garza seems to fit in fine just as well. If they focus in on Garza right now while the entire league is going after Tanaka, we may just have a shot at getting him. What do you guys think? 4 year offer: 2014- $13 million 2015- $14 million 2016- $15 million 2017- $16 million I'm on board for him. Either that or do the numbers opposite so it's more front loaded. Either way works.
  6. Maybe him listing his preferred spots is a ploy towards the White Sox to offer more money? A guy can dream right? haha
  7. On his Baseball Reference page, it said he (Castro) was granted free agency so any top 20 list may not be completely updated yet.
  8. Santos Rodriguez was claimed by the D-Backs. I wish we would have dfa'd Heath instead. We probably could have snuck him through waivers. Not a big deal though it would have been nice to have another lefty in the mix for a lefty reliever spot.
  9. For me, I think the favorites to land him are: Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, and the Angels but if I had to pick a couple dark horses, they would be the Sox and Mariners. Sale Tanaka Quintana Johnson Danks(/Paulino/Rienzo/Surkamp) wouldn't look too shabby next season.
  10. There really isn't a "bid" anymore. He is free to negotiate with anyone, but the team he agrees to a deal with has to be willing to pay the max bid (the 20 million)
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Very possible. Now might be the time to trade ADA. I still think his hit tool could develop more because guys that prove they can hit MLB pitching tend to get a lil better after a few seasons of figuring it out and seeing all the tricks. The strikeouts scare me though because they clearly indicate there's a bit of a book out on him. But he's surviving despite that and found a way to hit 17 LH bombs and knock in 62 runs from the lead off spot. Adam Dunn lite lol Would you rather take 2 De Azas or 2 Dunns? 2 De Azas easily
  12. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) After Choo signed, I thought I read somewhere that they're going to go with Hamilton this year. Maybe that's malarky. I'd prefer to pay Big Funn and ADA almost $20 Million this year with Dunn playing somewhere else. I desperately want to keep ADA's bat in our lineup because I think he can be a dynamic player in the 9 hole. If he can take a step forward this year and put up a hybrid of his last 2 years, maybe .290/.370/.440 could be his peak? I think the only way we can keep him is if Dunn is jettisoned. Oh I didn't hear about that regarding Hamilton. Honestly I'd prefer to move Dunn too. De Aza is a solid blend of speed and power, meaning he'll hit a few homers and not clog the bases. But I think De Aza is at his max value now and I think Dunn has potential to have some value towards the deadline.
  13. The only team I see a possible deal with is the Reds for De Aza. Weren't they close to a trade lost off-season? Well, I think CF is a hole right now for the Reds (assuming they want Hamilton to have some time in the minors to start the year. De Aza can bat leadoff and play center and can move into a platoon role with Ludwick when Hamilton comes up. Plus Ludwick is a free agent after this year and De Aza can just be the fulltime LF in 2015 (unless they sign another right handed cheap bat to platoon obviously). EDIT: just looked at their top 20 and they didn't have any catchers there. We could trade for some pitching depth I suppose.
  14. Real shocker here/sarcasm. 28 other teams will probably meet with him too.
  15. I'm thinking when we deal guys like De Aza, Keppinger and Gillaspie, I think we will mostly get pitching depth. Maybe a solid pitcher or 2 for De Aza, but the other 2 more fringe kind of guys that can be turned into solid 4/5th starters or relievers (think how we picked up Quintana as a free agent who was cut from the Mets and Yankees before and the recent Surkamp pickup).
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Meh...who cares. Rather have that than another passive blah. Plus...Gibson and the other coaches loved him...which is more telling than some mood ring in the clubhouse who's job/attention felt threatened. True. Waaay to many blah personality guys in the clubhouse the past few seasons it seems. Even when they've had competitive teams, it never looked like they were having fun.
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) This and the Garia affair thread are awful. Who gives a f***? This^
  18. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Wow. I thought Santos was one of these "upside" guys with upper-90s stuff. Maybe Sox now move on to signing O'flaherty?? He's a ground ball guy with a very high LOB% *shrug* It would be nice to get him. And I thought Molina or Heath would go before he did. Oh well I guess.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Per the Sox FB page, the deal with Downs is finalized and Santos Rodriguez was DFA to free up the roster spot. Figured it would be him or Heath or Molina.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) But that's the problem -- we need a guy that can play SS. If Davidson makes the team out of ST, right now the bench looks like: 1B/DH Konerko C Flowers/Nieto OF De Aza/Viciedo IF Keppinger ?? That fifth slot, which they probably would rather not even carry in lieu of another reliever anyway, absolutely must be someone that can play SS, as that's the only position not covered. Battling for that final slot will be Garcia, Danks, Gillaspie, and Semien at a minimum. Semien can start in AAA, and Garcia is the only other one that can handle SS. That leaves both Gillaspie and Danks without a job, and I'd be surprised if we didn't lose one or both to waivers because neither has anything to prove in AAA. With Alexei's durability, I'm sure Beckham can step in to play short once or twice next year. He did play short a bit in his minor league rehab last year and I think at one point was the only backup ss on the mlb team.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) Hahn's next step should be an extension for Ventura. No point of having him signed only through year one of the rebuild. Rather see someone other than Ventura managing this team in '15
  22. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) I don't think Santiago was ever the difference between a good or a great staff. I think having his name in the hat with Johnson, Rienzo, Paulino, and now Surkamp increased your odds of creating a great staff, but it was never a sure thing. I kind of think that while everyone's eyes are on Tanaka, the White Sox should make a move to sign Garza. I doubt it will happen, but if you can get him on a reasonable contract (maybe a little more than what Danks got, like 4 years 60 million with an option for a 5th), having him at the top of the rotation with Sale along with Quintana, Danks, and Johnson at the back end... that could be one of the best in the league. Obviously I would rather have Tanaka, but thats definitely not happening with his price tag. I don't think Garza is attached to a draft pick either.

    Sooooo

Any new rumors on any names the Sox could be targeting? Last I saw was JR Murphy.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) The contract extension added one more guaranteed year, so yes he was. ^This. We still would have had to have gone through the arbitration years if it wasn't for the extension.
  25. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) I think what Polish is getting at is the wear and tear thats already on the shoulder and elbow from such high pitch counts. The articles raise some genuine causes for concern, especially the money and years speculated for Tanaka's contract. Personally I'm on the fence. Would love to take the chance, just not sure at what cost. If Im spending the coin I'd want an MRI on the shoulder and elbow to make sure all is well. Well I'd assume all of that stuff would happen while agreeing to the deal before it becomes official. Im on thr fence too though. If they get him, great. If not, then its ok
