  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) I like Latos. I'd keep an eye on Iwakuma but not sure how to gage his value in the open market. As far as the Cubs, I think they move Soler and Castro. Personally, given that they probably get next to nothing for Castro, I would consider going Baez-Russell-Castro at 3B-SS-2B with LaStella being a change of pace 2B/3B. Move Bryant to RF, with Schwarber in LF and get a great defender in CF. Where'd all this Baez talk start? Are we interested in him? As for a SP, I think we'll be in on some.
  2. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) LaRoche was supposed to be a 30+ homer guy at the Cell and look how that worked out... I wasn't expecting 30 from him. Not sure where you seen that
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) How clutch is Frazier? I'd rather the team signed a lower tier FA SP in an abundant market than try to find a new position player in FA. Who would be the pitcher for you? Latos? Or is he too much money?
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) All Wieters needs with Boras as his agent: 1) a dearth of veteran, experienced catching talent on the market 2) at least 10-15 teams looking to upgrade that position He will get more years and total dollars than most around here are expecting. Supply and demand. This is not Stephen Drew or Kendrys Morales we're talking about, but a talented (albeit enigmatic) catcher fairly close to his prime years. While agreeing with that sentiment, I still think he won't break the bank. He's missed a lot of games the past couple seasons. That will deter some teams from spending a lot of money on him.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) I'm all for being realistic, but if Freese is one the big moves we make, we very likely won't be competing next year and might as well give the playing time to Saladino. Having said that, I'm not sure the front office agrees with me and I could them just plug a few holes with low ceiling guys like Freese and hope for internal improvement at other spots. Hopefully I'm just being pessimistic here and Hahn has grander plans. IMO, this team can compete next year if we add two big bats. I wasn't considering Freese as a "big move" but merely filling a hole.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) Relying on an unproven Korean hitter who pales in comparison to Kang and Choo is pretty out there. We can't afford to guess via video like we did with Iguchi and have another Keppinger or Bonifacio sunk cost. I agree.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) Honestly, I want nothing to do with Freese. We need to think bigger and/or more long-term at 3B. That means a significant upgrade like Todd Frazier or acquiring a young major league ready 3B like say Javier Baez (I see that as his eventual landing spot). I don't see any reason to tread water at the position when our only minor league option is at least two years away. I've always been a Wieters fan, but am somewhat reluctant to commit big dollars to him. I'd much rather use our financial resources towards acquiring an impact bat for the OF (Upton) and target a young catcher via trade. If the Mets lose Cespedes this offseason, I could see a Avi for Plawecki swap make a lot of sense for both clubs. Derek Norris is another guy caught in a numbers game that will likely be available this offseason. I'm trying to be realistic this offseason. I think those are realistic options. I want to think big but I'm just not sure if we'll be able to land one of the OFers. Freese would be a decent option if we can't land an impact bat at third. Wieters I'm not sure he's going to cost a ton right now.
  8. I look for two new starters here. My predictions are Freese and Wieters.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) I just think this would be a disaster. An awful signing and bad strategy. I'd prefer we do nothing for 1 more year than this. I agree but this team needs an impact bat badly.
  10. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) I'd understand Cabrera instead of Ramirez, but that's one slight upgrade at SS. What about 2B, 3B, C, RF? Even say we sign Freese for 3B and stand pat otherwise, how much better is this team? We're still peppering the Sox with replacement level production when we know damn well what we need is several power hitting, on base players aside from Abreu Those two alone are not enough. We need to add at least one impact bat. 2B: I'm fine with Sanchez. C: I want Wieters.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) Which would suggest the Sox will be in play for one of the marquee available outfielders out there, be it Upton, Heyward, Cespedes, Gordon, or someone significant on the trade market. We are currently below average at two of the three OF spots, so to become competitive enough to...gulp...wait for it...wait for it...actually return to postseason play in the next year or two, we need to act like a big market club and land one of these OF prizes. No more second tier Cabrera/LaRoche types. I would stay away from Gordon on a long term deal. That's what he's getting so it's not like we could do a 3 year deal. I'd stay away because of age. I'd go younger like Upton, Heyward or Cespedes. We land one of those (Heyward unlikeliest because of huge $$) and go from there. Then it's 3B, SS, C and a SP. There's options this offseason. We need to hit it well. Pardon the pun.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) Because they have awesome pitching that could potentially do what the Mets are doing if they actually got back into the playoffs. I don't necessarily agree with the current method but it's what is going to happen. IMO ya build with something. Whether it's all pitching or all hitting. Get one of the other going and you can always trade pitching for hitting. Not everyone can build both equally. Usually it's one or the other.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) I am already pretty sure he can't. Nothing in his minor league career screamed at me good major league hitter. Heck even his time here was inflated by a really hot start. I agree. Never say never but it seems like a long shot. Replace him with anyone it's Avi.
  14. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) True, but it's an accepted risk (for me atleast) because if Eaton brings back a SS, suddenly we're not having to pay Ramirez and someone such as Zobrist can be signed. So you've effectively filled two positions by trading Eaton, and anything positive/negative from Thompson is just what we'll have to deal with. We could always sign a guy like Asdrubal Cabrera for like 2 years. Stop gap to Anderson.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:05 AM) I think you'd get more in separate deals. Why don't people understand how much Quintana is actually worth? Ya I agree unless it was something crazy like Q and Eaton for Puig, Urias, Seager and prospect.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) If you trade Eaton, it better be in a package for a star position player at a great position of need. We can't afford to gamble on prospects if we're trading our second best hitter. Ya it'd be somewhat of a big trade.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) Agreed. If they stand pat...Robin should consider quitting. That would practically be a set up for failure. I would like to see Robin with some legit talent.
  18. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) Alright we're on the same page. Sounded like you were in the it's all over camp. No. I've stated that if we in fact stand pat I won't watch til next season when Anderson is up.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) So that means stop trying and sulk? Not at all and I'm not saying stop. I've stated my mock where we sign 3 guys and trade for Puig. This team doesn't have the talent to stand pat. They just don't. They have to make moves.
  20. I just don't see the logic. Would have to be some crazy trade with Q maybe.
  21. I wouldn't mind adding a guy like Freese at third or trading for Rockies McMahon prospect or something. Then work from there. Maybe Cabrera at SS as stop gap for Anderson. There's definitely some things we could do. We'll be players for some of the outfielders no doubt.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) I just hate the morbid attitude. They should try and fill as many holes as possible. Let's actually reach the playoffs next year. They tried it this year. Just didn't work out. It happens.
  23. I'm sure we like him. I'm not a huge fan but I won't be opposed to it. Question is what and how much? 5/120?
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 02:22 PM) That has absolutely nothing to do with his WAR though. Oh lol I don't know about the advanced stats. Trying to learn though
