SOURCE: 2 horse race between Dodgers and Astros
Bigsoxhurt35 replied to Carpe Diem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm hoping the Sox come away from the winter meetings with a Bregman package for Sale, and a Benintendi package for Quintana. Then the rest is gravy with Frazier, Melky, Abreu, etc. IMO -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Why wouldn't he fit at 3B? Long term, that is his best value. I could agree with that. -

I'd put Bregman at 2B and Saladino at 3rd. Sanchez isn't a viable option for 2B IMO. Saladino provides more value with his bat than Sanchez. I'd put Sanchez in the utility role. -

Who would ya'll rather have Benintendi package from Boston or Bregman package from Houston? I actually would really love to see an Anderson and Bregman infield for the next 6 years at least. -

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) You are not getting both Bregman and Springer in the deal. I'm shocked anyone thinks Houston would consider that. I don't think there's a chance. I just threw out a trade idea anyways. -

Sale and Frazier for Springer, Bregman, Martes, and Tucker? -

I don't care where Sale is moved as long as we get the best possible deal. -
Frazier wants to stay, doesn't want Sox to trade Sale

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) I am all for taking on a bad deal or malcontent if it means improving the prospect return. The White Sox should absolutely be willing to take on guys like Pablo Sandoval, Yasiel Puig, or anyone else if the sending team is willing to include higher level prospects in order to take the player on. Gota have a payroll somehow in a rebuild. Just hope that whomever is brought in rebounds and has a great year so you can flip them at the trade deadline. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 10:12 PM) I just don't know how you could really definitively say "I want to trade Sale, but keep Q" otherwise. One would think they would remain flexible unless it was a health issue or a makeup issue. Agreed. I think the losers in the Sale sweepstakes will turn to Q

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) It's pretty messed up and disgraceful from "professionals" but these are teenagers and boys will be boys. That is not "boys being boys" that's sickening. Boys being boys tease each other over small things like sports or what they're wearing. They're not masturbating each other.

I want a high OBP and contact team that runs. Put pressure on pitchers and defenses. Truth is our pitching is always there. At least with the rotation. Bullpen would've been better had not been injuries with a couple arms and Robertson was hurt.

Four year control guys off the table(JQ,Nate,Eaton)

I for one, am taking all of this info spat out as half-truths. Take everything with a grain of salt. They're paid to lie. -
I do want your guy's opinion on the Bears and what the deal is? Is it just a lack of talent combine with a bad Cutler? Is it coaching? I watched KC play Chicago in preseason and could tell it'd be a rough season for Chicago.

This could be posturing or they're going to half ass rebuild which won't be surprising because you can look up the phrase half-ass and see Chicago White Sox in it. That's what they do. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) Every team deals with the injury bug, it's the NFL. That being said, I have always enjoyed watching the Chiefs and rooted for them in the playoffs. I just do not think that they can win with Smith as their QB. Their defense is not dominant enough to overcome the lack of explosiveness in that offense. Absolutely but they need to be healthy for the playoffs. Keep in mind they went TO New England without their number 1 WR Jeremy Maclin, best defensive player Justin Houston, both starting RBs and only lost by a TD. If this team can stay relatively healthy for the playoffs they're going to at least the AFC championship. Denver went there because they were healthy. KC, PIT and NE all had injuries while Denver had that on their side. This year we're 7-2 and now get our best defensive player back (Justin Houston). This defense is going to be elite now that they got him back to rush opposite of the NFL sack leader Dee Ford. They were down 17-0 at the defending NFC champions place and came back and won due to the defense. They had 0....ZERO offensive TDs and won that game. But I'm not using that as an excuse but merely a reminder how deep KC is overall. Very deep team and Smith plays his best in the playoffs. They didn't lose to NE because of him. You absolutely can win with Smith. Go look at his playoff stats. He steps his game up in the playoffs.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) So far this offseason the White Sox have: Added: Urias Puig Bellinger Alvarez Lux Calhoun Under Comissioner Review: Chris Sale for Bregman, Martes, Tucker, Moran, and Whitley. Lost: Quintana Frazier Jennings Still Listening On: Abreu Robertson Melky Eaton Jones Lawrie What's to review on our deal? It's a perfectly fair trade for Sale. Also I would like to talk Nate Jones. What's it gona take? -
Forgot about this thread. My Chiefs are off to another great start (7-2) despite the injury bug.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) At least for one post here, I am going to play devil's advocate or take the position that is contrary to the rebuild/blow-it-up strategy. Reading down several trade suggestions made by posters here, a rebuild appears to provide hope. Then the following posts just shoot down the suggestions, often claiming that the suggestion is ridiculous, that other teams will never give up on players the Sox would want, or that other teams would never overpay for our players. Then there is the reality that several teams, including now the Tigers, are seeking to dump veterans for prospect and acquire other teans top prospects in return. Unfortunately, teams are hanging on to their top prospects choosing to emulate what the Cubs did - accumulate a bevy of young prospects that reach a crescendo at the same time, then salt that roster with veterans through trade or free agency. Complicating the blow-it-up plan further is the plain fact that only the worst three or four teams get the first three or four Draft slots. Too many teams are blowing it up or are bad enough now that it is no longer easy to do what Epstein did, throw a season or seasons and come out with Kris Bryant and Schwarber, So the counterpoint to a major rebuild does have some validity. That is especially the case if the Sox simply cannot find trading partners that are willing to trade guys like Benintendi, Moncada, Trea Turner, Giolito, Urias, etc....not even for an ace pitcher under a great team friendly contract or a guy who hit 40 home runs and is solid defensively. At some point you have to stop trying to force a trade, keep what you have , and try to add to it again. That is what they've been doing for the past few seasons. It's not working man. Not when your owner is a cheap bastard. They haven't tried to force a trade. This is a very well thought out plan they're trying to execute. -

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Hey Luhnow, I think McCutcheon would look real good in an Astros uniform, and catapault your team to the Series. I could send him your way for Bregman, Moran, and Musgrove. Sorry, day late and a dollar short. He's sent to the Sox for Sale. -
