  1. Like I said I could name many pretty average pitchers who still went out there and could give you a good start pretty consistently, just with the Sox we had Donovon, Horlen, Peters, Dotson not to mention Wilbur Wood who even though a knuckballer gave us 4 years in a row with over 300 innings pitched.
  2. Not necessarily complete games but how about at least 7 innings. One thing is nowadays you need 13 man pitching staffs which cuts down on position players, you pick out McDowell but I have seen hundreds of pitchers who have had great careers pitching many many innings, ever hear of Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton and our own Billy Pierce and Mark Buerhle plus so many more. Part of the problem is the money, they have to protect their investments in these guys.
  3. Unfortunately you are probably right, I was hoping we could steal a game in LA and take 2 in Colorado for a .500 road trip, maybe they will shock us a win today but don't hold your breath.
  4. Definitely a different game that I grew with. The players are without a doubt more athletic, I’m seeing defensive plays these days that are simply unbelievable, we’ve probably seen many catches now that have been better than Willie Mays’ great catch in the 1954 World Series. That being said, what drives me crazy about today’s game is guys are constantly swinging for the fences when all they need is a well placed single to win a game. Many outfielders have trouble hitting the cut off man on throws back to the infield, most teams wind up the year with more Ks than hits. Greg mentioned how pitching has changed, today pitching is entirely a different animal, just 20 years ago the Sox won the World Series with 4 complete game victories, now a team can go an entire year without a complete game. A starting pitcher now has a quality start if he goes 5 innings, give me a break. All that said, I still love Baseball, it’s a sport that if you are watching a game you will probably see something you’ve never seen before. I’ll be 80 soon and I still pull for the Sox, I still get nervous sometimes and if the Sox have a small lead going to the 9th inning I won’t watch, I didn’t stay up last night but that game is one I would have gone to bed and as it turned out that ninth inning would have caused me to lose sleep.
  5. I thought that Sosa was decent at 3B last year, it’s becoming pretty clear that he’s not a good second baseman and is lousy at first base also. Going forward he might be the primary DH, he’s got the power and hopefully we will see him become a 20+ homer guy.
  6. I wonder if they’re going to give him more than 3 ABs this time.
  7. Rojas probably should stay as a utility infielder, who else is there.
  8. I don’t want Sosa at first, he botched a few plays there earlier in the year, I like your strongest infield scenario.
  9. If they bring Colson up soon, what should the infield look like, Meidroth is doing a great job at Shortstop so do they put Montgomery at third or maybe Meidroth moves over to second, Montgomery at SS and Sosa 3B with Vargas the everyday guy at 1B.
  10. Just a note, both Noda and Elko are very good defensively, a shame they can’t hit.
  11. Devers grabs some bench, important first out.
  12. Stupid contact play, I absolutely hate it. Actually he did well by letting the guy on second get to third.
  13. Yes, DP! Is it me but are the Sox getting a lot DPs lately especially when they really need em.
  14. He really had a bad wrist his first year.
  15. He should, he’s getting paid a lot more.
  16. Cannon looked gassed there, he needs some Gatorade but he had enough to get out of the inning.
  17. 3 well hit balls all caught on the warning track.
