  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) In a previous post, I argued that I'd prefer the Sox trade Sale than Quintana, and I gave several reasons. Although I don't advocate trading either one, I'd like to add one more reason why I would trade Sale over Quintana; The evidence is mounting that, at least this year, Q is actually a slightly better pitcher. I know that sounds ridiculous, but look at their respective game logs, and see if you don't agree. The margin isn't very great, but Quintana barely edges out Sale as the more consistently reliable Ace. What a shame that this team can't score enough runs to make him the Cy Young candidate that he deserves to be. Q's luck has really been one of the great shames of this team the last few years. SSS captured the perfect gif from his last start. This gif is everything you need to know about Jose Quintana. http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/8/11/1243...e-extra-innings (Can't get an embed link for whatever reason)
  2. He was definitely claimed last year. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/08/yank...on-waivers.html
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) While I would like it, what can they do at this point? Take back the nomination? The only thing they can do is what they're doing - anyone with a future in the GOP is running away from him, loudly and publicly. He's going to go down in a sinking ship with very few people onboard. They could certainly be running away faster and louder. Literally every single one of them should be running away loudly. The party could pull all the money (maybe they've done that already, I don't know). Officially pull their endorsements, as a party. At least lose with dignity.
  4. Steve, did you steal that from Trump's remarks today? https://twitter.com/KilloughCNN/status/763102058845184000 Are we f***ing done with this national embarrassment yet? Can the GOP sack up and do something and euthanize this abomination of a campaign already? It's not only stupid but dangerous to let it continue.
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) I think you and Reddy were the only Clinton all day every day supporters in the beginning. Maybe Steve too. I voted for her in the IL primary but wasn't that vocal in the Buster.
  6. Here we see Donald Trump suggesting either an armed citizens' revolt or outright assassination if Hillary Clinton wins and appoints SCOTUS justices. It's no big deal, just Trump being Trump. He jokes around a lot. For real though, HOLY F***ING S***
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Yet everyone honored their cheat this year... Yeah it really does baffle me.
  8. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago Sources: Prince Fielder’s career appears over. #Rangers expected to hold press conference tomorrow. As always, thank you, Rangers, for taking that moist turd of a contract off a division rival's hands in exchange for Ian Kinsler, who has been nothing less than fantastic since the trade. And by "thank you," I mean "f*** you."
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 05:23 AM) Is it fun though? Based on the limited stuff I've seen, it seems like all you do is gather resources, build-up your ship, and move closer to the center of the Galaxy. They may be fun for a little while, but I see it getting tedious if there isn't more to it than that. Haven't played it - no PS4 - but it seems like that could become a problem. That said, it is an amazing thing. I switched back and forth between 6 or 7 people streaming it last night and each one was exploring a completely different environment with different animals and different intelligent life to interact with and it was just really cool to see. There's a component where you have to find items to learn the alien languages you come across. I don't know how involved that is - it could be little more than a fetch quest or it could open up a bunch of things to do. It's not gonna live up to the out-of-control hype but for me there are enough reasons to admire it and play it. Ultimately I don't know about the depth, but the breadth is remarkable and justifies a purchase. Sean Murray ‏@NoMansSky 13m13 minutes ago I'm watching so many twitch streams. We made a nice game you guys. It's got cool music, lots of pretty stuff and people are having fun guys
  10. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) The others? You're the reason I'll get up out of my seats and move so I don't have to hear about how Brett "Lorrie" and "Tom" Anderson make a great infield. That's actually the correct pronunciation of Lawrie's name.
  11. This thread is overheating from the takes.
  12. This is old now but Trump's Olympics tweet from Friday is still funny and just about made my weekend. * BIG LEAGUE * Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump Aug 5 Good luck #TeamUSA #OpeningCeremony #Rio2016
  13. Who is crucifying him, my god. TFIN makes a post pointing out Timmy's biggest flaw while also acknowledging that he does things well and should still turn into a good player. I happen to completely agree. Anderson's lack of patience will always limit his ceiling but that doesn't mean he can't be a starter and even an all-star. Everybody relax.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) They are not accepting mediocrity. The GM said so. He is going to change the roster again. Whether it's a total rebuild or not, we have no idea at this point, but they have made a lot of changes each off season since this suckage began. But now questioning Anderson after question Fulmer..these guys are young and inexperienced, finding their way. There are very few Frank Thomases, or Mike Trouts that are instant stars. If a fan doesn't have the patience to watch Anderson struggle or Fulmer struggle, whether they want to believe it or not, they are going to hate a total rebuild. And the race to see who can be the first to write someone off will continue. Did you read the post, or did you just jump immediately into attack mode as usual? OP literally did the opposite of writing him off, saying "personally I see him as our everyday SS down the line, but not a reliable top of the order bat like Robin is trying to make him into now. I'll say something like .250/.290/.400 with 30 steals and an above average defender at short....good player to have on the team..." I thought it was a good post and I'm not sure why he's getting heat for it.
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) On that chart of yours, each slot lower takes away .38 WAR on average. So the difference in 10 slots is 3.8WAR. not earth shattering, but not something to ignore either. That's a cool bit of analysis, thank you. I don't think I can dispute that ten spots in the first round makes a difference. It's worth noting that the teams having the first, 11th, and 21st picks in X year are in vastly different competitive positions.
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Oh hey, evidence. The 6-year WAR difference between 3-7 and 8-15 is 0.16. That might as well be 0. That tells me that a 3 pick and a 15 pick are functionally identical. I know that's not completely true, but that's the way the writer chose to group the information. And that's the range we're talking about with the Sox this year. Here's average bWAR by pick for drafts from 1991-2010. Unfortunately it's career WAR and not 6-year WAR, but I don't think that dilutes the point too much. Pick / Avg WAR 01 22.3 02 13.9 03 10.4 04 06.8 05 15.8 06 11.8 07 13.2 08 10.9 09 09.7 10 10.1 11 09.6 12 12.8 13 13.8 14 09.3 15 11.2 16 10.6 17 11.8 18 02.2 19 05.5 20 13.3 21 04.9 22 07.6 23 08.5 24 02.9 25 06.6 26 01.4 27 02.0 28 05.3 29 09.5 30 02.0 There's a downward slope to be sure, but once you get past the top spots, it doesn't matter that much until about 20th. Teams have done just as well picking 17th as they have picking 16th as they have picking 10th. I'm sure the differences by pick are even less pronounced in later rounds. I would rather have a higher pick because the extra money is good, but I'm not actively rooting for it. I can't sit there while I watch a game and think, "I hope Tim Anderson drives in Eaton and Saladino on a dinger but then Tommy Kahnle blows the lead." That's too much work. Good players pop up everywhere in the draft and that's what I choose to focus on. As far as getting top-10 protection, even that has less meaning for me this year. Is there anyone in their right mind who wants the Sox to sign a guy with a qualifying offer in 2017?
  17. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) Since the Sox suck and the FO clearly doesn't want to make things better, I spent my lunch break watching the old archive footage on the MLB youtube channel. Every big Sox moment of the last 10-15 years, Hawk Harrelson ruined with his stupid act. I've been hoping for Hawk's retirement for years and I know you're just exaggerating for effect, but c'mon. He killed it on Buehrle's perfect game. And... other things too, I'm sure...
  18. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 58s59 seconds ago Torn left hamstring for Charlie Tilson. Surgery tomorrow. Out for season. Good times guys.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Yea still playing a ton. Finally playing Competitive, hate that people leave in that s***... Also hate that if you do well but your team sucks you still get docked, should have a better algorithm for that. I've been very careful about who I group up with in competitive because I don't like that feeling. At least when we lose, we know that everybody on the team was competent and we just got outplayed or had a bad game. Some people have been complaining about the opposite because the algorithm compares your performance to the average for that hero. That's one part of how it decides how much to dock or reward you. So teams that run double healer have supports who can't rack up as much healing because there's only so much to go around. The result is that people who play support a lot don't rank up as fast. So that's an argument for everyone on the team getting the same bonus or punishment.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) I just don't see how he'll even last until November. This is wackiness. 3 more months. To that end... http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-elect...8-hours-n622216
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) Anyone been playing Overwatch on here? Finally bought it after reading all the good reviews etc. over the past few months.. The only thing I've played since its release, I'm still absolutely in love with it.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) you forgot to log into your greg account Just in a gambling mood today.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Yes I do. Besides, the White Sox aren't as bad as most want to make them. They are right around .500. You would think reading most posts, they are a 120 loss team. And everyone they could have traded yesterday to make people happy, they can trade after the season. I was disappointed they didn't make any moves, but I want them to get better and win. The amount of fans pissed off they think the Sox will try to win next year is crazy. These same people, if the Sox traded everyone away and had guys like Shuck and Coats playing everyday, would still be complaining. It's what they love to do. Just look at their posts. Even when the Sox win they aren't happy. Most of us doubt that this will happen. I'll bet my house it doesn't. They will retool and give it another ill-advised shot.
