  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) The question is whether someone will pay a price that reflects that his production this year is his norm and will continue. I don't think they will. And if they don't, keep him. He looks like he can hit and that's more valuable. That is spot on - right now Conor is kind of a tweener in that he has shown he could be useful in the long term, but he hasn't done it for long enough to establish much trade value. We'd be looking at a middling return, and for a team in our position, why give up a young, cheap player who is actually producing for that?
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) No, it's a statement off him saying they have questionable loyalty, which matters to him so much. Loyalty is the most important thing to Wade. Followed by making "WTF" faces at refs, and then tiny leather purses.
  3. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) ?? Is that statement just based of him staying in Miami? http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-05...ade-free-agents
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) From a caller...? That's not a report lol. "Anonymous source" would have sounded better.
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) I would think that if Sale hadn't been the final vote he might have been added anyway due to Tanaka's injury. Nope, Farrell had already named Uehara as Tanaka's replacement. By far the best thing about yesterday's loss was that the Sox were able to stick it to him for that one.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) GB have a game 3 K's What color/substance sombrero is that again?
  7. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) Yes! I voted and tweeted and retweeted so much and it was worth it ? I retweeted something like five times, which is more than I've ever tweeted before combined.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) Beckham is 1-his last 26. yuck. Good thing he's hitting second to flash his trade value then.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Remember when he started on Opening Day? Not too long ago he was our ace, extended for 13 million a season for five years, and considered one of the best lefties (I don't remember that but Michael Kay says it all the time when ChiSox play NYY) I just saw him as the 6th top trade chip for this year's deadline yesterday too somewhere The need is there and Hahn can take major advantage of it Not too long ago, no. But it was also one shoulder surgery ago. He's not that pitcher anymore and while he's been better this season, it seems you're overestimating his value.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Don't shop them but listen to offers: Danks Ramirez Both guys are under team control through 2016 and have put in good enough performances to be considered valuable pieces of a contending team in the 2015-16 time frame. Only give these guys up if a premium offer is received. Couldn't agree more. Danks in particular is a guy who I feel has more value to the Sox than they'd get back in a deal. Dumping his salary is nice, but to what end? To open another hole in the rotation? We need some major league arms and he is one.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I don't want anyone that costs the Sox a first round draft pick. If the Twins give Willingham a QO, I'm guessing he'd take it after what happened to Kendrys Morales, so it wouldn't be our problem then.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Why? Willingham is pretty bad at baseball. If they got him as a platoon DH on a cheap deal, ok, but he is atrocious in the field. I don't see why not. I'm being tongue-in-cheek when I say I demand him, but really I think he would be a nice fit. Cheap. He still hits for power when he's healthy and the OBP is enviable, plus I've heard we might have room for a DH who does those things next season. It'd be nice if he was a lefty but his platoon splits aren't that pronounced. 129 career wRC+ against lefties, 121 right. If Viciedo is on his way out of town, Willingham is no worse in the field. Except unlike Viciedo, he can hit. And it's not like he'd be blocking any of our terrific young outfielders. If you can get him for one year, again, he fits well.
  13. Another case of the Red Sox feeding info for a hit piece on somebody on their way out the door. I know the White Sox had a couple of those incidents too, but at this point it's a pattern in Boston.
  14. I demand Josh Willingham QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) You really think Shields gets that type of money? He's showing signs of decline which is why it will be a mistake just like every pitcher mega-deal, but he should fetch that.
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) Those teams were already constructed with power hitters. If the team did not hit well, it was because the power hitters (having few other worthwhile skills) failed to hit for power due to injury or other. The 2005 team did not win the World Series because of power hitting. They had a slightly subpar offense. 9th out of 14 AL teams. They scored 741 runs. You can get to that mediocre number a million different ways, hitting a lot of home runs is not a requirement. They won the World Series because of their pitching. Exactly. Put it another way: 2014 Sox: 4.30 runs per game (7th in AL), .154 ISO (5th), 1.0 HR/game 2014 KCR: 4.13 runs per game (9th in AL), .113 ISO (15th), 0.6 HR/game And yes, I know park comes into play. But here we've got two vastly different ways to get basically the same meh results.
  16. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:11 AM) Picking up AJ doesn't prevent you from finding a long term solution. It also doesn't accomplish anything. I don't see the point.
  17. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) Plus brings intangibles that Flowers lacks. Being an a-hole = intangibles!
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) I repeat HAHN has some explaining to do. That Reed trade was downright silly. Reed is having a horrible year. His velocity is down and he's serving up homers like it's his job. Arizona fans want to strangle him. How would he be helping?
  19. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 07:39 AM) Question: Was RV taking him out so Sale would be able to start Sunday with 3 days rest? I think he was taking him out because Sale was at 107 pitches - I bet that's the top of the bell curve for a pitching change - and he had a guy in Petricka who hadn't allowed a run in his last 8 appearances. Pedroia has fairly pronounced lefty/righty splits, and if there's one thing I know about Robin it's that he likes to fixate on handedness. This one seemed like a pretty by-the-book decision. Hard for me to hang it on Ventura.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Even in a rebuild Flowers showed who and what he was last year. I was shocked when he wasn't non-tendered. Last year he had the shoulder excuse. This year has shown that it maybe wasn't impacting his production that much, but it was probably a thing in the back of Hahn's mind - "You're rebuilding, if the right guy isn't there for the right price, give Flowers one last audition." I was bummed when Saltalamacchia signed with Miami. Even as a regression candidate, they stole him.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 08:17 AM) It's not like Garcia will be ready to go in a week or 2. I can't imagine he can play before September. Good point. I'll still be mildly surprised if he plays again at all. Rick Hahn's exact quote was "Is it possible he returns to major league play this year? Yes, it is possible." That's pretty hedgy. Kinda sounds like something the media just ran with, full steam ahead.
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) 9 for his last 100 (7 singles and 2 homers) with 6 walks and 47 strikeouts. That's good for a line of .090/.148/.150 Hi everyone. I'm another nomad from the whitesox.com boards that were recently mutilated by an update. I've got another triple slash: .121/.194/.136, 40.2 K%. That's lefties against Chris Sale this season. They compare favorably to Flowers. Maybe it's time to give Nieto an extra start each week or something. I don't think I can stomach Phegley again. Somebody mentioned Kurt Suzuki for next year. I'd be okay with it. Not a bad stopgap if he could be had, but obviously to expect these kinds of numbers again would be optimistic.
