  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) A reasonable person
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Doesn't seem particularly difficult given their remaining schedule. They're only 15-14 against KC and Minny combined this season. So yeah playing 7 over would be difficult based on past results this season.
  3. Tigers basically have to play mistake-free baseball the rest of the season. I just don't see that happening.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) This is a completely circular thread with no right answer. Fun Police
  5. So if we're all in agreement that the records against KC and Detroit show this team has certain mental handicaps and after all that they are STILL in first and STILL control their destiny, if they make the playoffs wouldn't the 11-4 record against the Yankees and Texas being a mental advantage? I'd take that trade any day of the week. Or does certain records against certain teams only work if its a negative?
  6. Also my memory might be hazy, but in my mind down he stretch the '05 Sox played like crap against possible playoffs opponents like the Yankees/Red Sox and I thought "well this will be a quick exit from the playoffs." But I could be wrong... Someone let me know.
  7. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) I'm sick of people saying "not beating KC will be the reason we lost this division" if we end up second. We're 5-13 against KC and done with them (and Detroit), and we're 2 games up in the division. If you want to cherry pick the 18 KC games out of the schedule, you'd have to change every other result as well, because after certain losing streaks/games the team got up/down for the next one. It's akin to saying "if we had that hit he would have scored". You can't cherry pick like that. Maybe if we won 2/3 in the trip to KC we have a let down somewhere else. This season will be won/lost @Anaheim, vs. TB/Cle and @Cle. Completely agree. The sox have played well against the West this season and against the Angels in recent years. Cleveland is awful and the Sox have taken care of business against them the last few years and Tampa might be eliminated by the time that series comes up.
  8. 20-9 vs. the AL west this season. Just keep it going.....
  9. I looked back on the Sox record all season after a series loss to either KC or Detroit (aka most of them) and found an interesting trend in the first series after: (Side note: two times in the season they played KC and Detroit back-to-back so I combined them, both losses --what new?) In 7 series post-loss the Sox won 5, split 2, and lost ZERO. 3 or those series were sweeps. Their record combined in those 7 series' : 16-5 Ironically in the 2 series the Sox did win vs. KC and Detroit both times they lost the next series. 3 out of 4 (Boston and Baltimore) So again... I'm feeling pretty good right now. They've been dominated by 2 rivals and have remained in first place most of the year. It's a symptom of the Central but ill take it.
  10. Sox vs. remaining schedule in 2012 thus far -- 14-6 Tigers vs. remaining schedule in 2012 thus far -- 15-14
  11. This team has been in first place for 120 days. I'd say they played plenty good innings.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) Simply put, if you get manhandled by the worst team in your division, you don't deserve to win the division. Except when your division is the AL Central. The White Sox have been dominated by Detroit and KC all season and have been in first for 120 days of that season. By the way: Detroit vs. KC/Minn combined 15-14 this season.
  13. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) We're lamenting that WE can't beat the royals And who CAN "we" beat? The Angels, Indians, and Rays. Combined against them in 2012? 14-6. I feel pretty good right now.
  14. Obviously Detroit has proven they are an amazing team that is in no way streaky or have terrible defense and are just gonna run away now. Oh, and they totally don't have any games this season to look back on and say "if we only won this game!"
  15. Done with KC for 2012. Hallelujah! I'm excited. How about you guys?
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Also the rally staches are gone per Paulie, Dunn. Sonava!
  17. Having MLB.tv really spoils you. Hearing other teams broadcasters at any time you realize what a joke Hawk is. He's a morning zoo drop-in machine. Not an original thought in his broadcasts. I loved him as a kid, but that nostalgia wears off quickly.
  18. Part of me thinks Hahn wouldn't take the promotion if he wasn't fully given the keys to the car. Why would he stick around when he's supposedly one of the top GM candidates in baseball, only to have Kenny pulling the strings for the big stuff like free agency and trades?
  19. This is an exciting proposition cause I'd like to see what Hahn can do as GM, but like everyone else, I fail to see how KW is not still in charge really....
  20. Today's game is just icing as far as I'm concerned. I'll be just as excited for a win as I will be to never have to play Kansas City again in 2012.
  21. So glad the Tigers end the season on the road... Have a feeling we're gonna be bigger fans of KC than greg is come the final series...
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) I just have this gut feeling that the Sox are the ones to lead all season and Detroit, the overwhelming favorite to start the season, will sweep past us at the end laughing all the way. I just picture it for some reason. You also had a gut feeling KC would finish ahead of the Sox this year too. How'd that work out?
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) Essentially, the White Sox are basically .500 against the Tigers/Royals/Twins. and 13-14 games over .500 against the rest of baseball. Another way of looking at it. The problem is that we're facing a hot and desperate Angels team, on the road, with two of their better pitchers going. Meanwhile, the Tigers face the absymal Royals at home. Best case scenario, we're looking at probably losing another game in the standings there. And we've got the pesky Rays still, with Price still possibly in their rotation down the stretch to clinch the Cy Young. DET has 8 more home games in a row, where they're almost impossible to beat. And they've survived the injury to Max Scherzer and still ended up winning that game I don't think KC will lay down and die for Detroit. They are gonna relish the spoiler roll. Don't forget last time out KC swept the Tigers.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Let's play the What If game.... If, as expected, Guthrie handcuffs the Sox tomorrow and we get shut out a second day in a row, and if Detroit wins and they are one out ... do you think the Tigers are locks to win the division considering their easy schedule compared to the Sox the rest of the way? Will you be alarmed if it's one game after tomorrow? What exactly about Detroits play this season makes you believe it's all going to suddenly click when it's hasn't ALL YEAR? All those years when the Sox had more talent but were always chasing the Twins, why didn't the talent overcome then? Why is Detroit somehow special? The Story of the Central in 2012 is this: Sox can't beat Detroit or KC but they have beaten everyone else. (69-43 against everyone else) Detroit owns the Sox but is inconsistent against everyone else. (67-63 against everyone else) After tomorrow the Sox play everyone else. Detroit plays everyone else too. Sox are ahead so, as far as I'm concerned that's where they'll stay.
