  1. If a team like the Brewers who could maybe use a stop gap, why not? They're not competing.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) I could see Thompson being a right handed equivalent to Kevin Kiermaier if he reaches his full potential. Yeah not amazing with the bat but a great defensive option in center. As of right now though, I think he's the platoon partner with LaRoche (Melky DH'S against lefties, Eaton moves to left, Trayce in center).
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Chris Sale isn't a bro. Paul Konerko got mad one time too. I guess he's on the same temperament as Carlos Zambrano then? Come on now. With all his personal handshakes for different players in the dugout he kinda looks like a bro...for what it's worth. Granted who cares if a guy is a "bro"? I don't really know why you're obsessing over this for like four days.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) It was posted in this thread that Mark Buehrle ( who is revered around here) said he had no problem at all with Lawrie . He was probably asked by the Sox front office about Lawrie's character before the Sox pulled the trigger on the trade. It needs to be emphasized and re-emphasized. We've probably all seen or knew athletes who were ultra competitive to the point of being dicks to umps and opposing players but with their own team mates they are the kind of guys you would want in a foxhole with you. Knowing a guy has your back is a good thing, a very good thing. Great post and couldn't agree more.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) Sure, he'd get more years on the open market, but those teams aren't trading prospects for him. Does it really make sense to give up several good prospects for a guy being paid like an elite OF but only has two years of control with his red flags? Any deal they make where we give up anything significant, the Rockies definitely have to pay about 1/3. I'd rather take it all on and give a little less though and not commit 6-8 years for Cespedes or Upton (though I'd rather have Cespedes. Anyone who signs Upton will regret it in like 2 years. K's too much, average d at best, injury prone. Pass).
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) I love that the writer calls CarGo at 2/$37M a bargain in this environment. I'm sorry, but I don't consider an AAV of $18.5M a bargain (for a second tier player no less) when one of the best OFs in the game just got a $23M AAV. If the Rockies expect anything of significance in return, they'll need to eat some serious salary. Saying that, I'd much rather have the Sox go after Upton or Cespedes than trade any top prospects for CarGo & salary relief. He probably could do better than 2/37 though. Maybe not his AAV but more guaranteed money over 4-5 years.
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) http://m.rockies.mlb.com/news/article/1594...s?tcid=tw_share Says the White Sox have been long speculated as a possible landing slot for Carlos Gonzalez but rockies looking at Quintana. Basically they are looking for stating pitching and bullpen help Can't fault them for asking. Offer Montas, an arm in the minors and Garcia and we'll take 1/3 of CarGo's salary and call it a day.
  8. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 05:55 AM) He is going to get paid... 200+ Oh I know that. My comment still stands. Big deals with lots of years and multiple opt outs.
  9. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) Heyward is a good player being paid like a great one. Fitting for the franchise he signed with. That's free agency though. No one gets paid their worth.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) I feel like the Sox did flukeishly underperform last year though. No one expected Samardzija, LaRoche, Garcia, Gillaspie, Sanchez, etc to be that bad. Even if they just played to their career averages, the Sox would've won 83-85 games last season IMO. Also in the disagree group and willing to say I expected big regression in Gillespie and a little bit of regression in Abreu, Eaton and Sale. Also was skeptical about LaRoche but I thought Melky and Samardzija would have been better. Edit: Eaton was awesome too last year I should say. He wasn't the same scrappy player from 14 but managed to hit what, 13 more homers?
  11. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) Was reading through Bleacher Report and came across an article by Jeff Passan about the possible free agent list for 2018. It's stupid good. It's almost hard to fathom the contracts some of the names will receive in 2018. Especially the way contracts have been increasing dramatically from year to year. But I thought it was a good read and a good topic of discussion. https://t.co/Q6juVf3HGL Machado as a 26 year old free agent is interesting...
  12. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:21 AM) By the way as the article states the Philles have $0 on the book for 2019... Yeah because rookie contracts and arb years aren't guaranteed.
  13. Well they don't have to move him now. They can wait to see if a team is desperate come June and July.
  14. Michael Cuddyer is retiring forfeiting all (he may get some of it) his salary for this year. Why can't we get that lucky?
  15. Anyone think we have the pieces to get a deal done without moving Fulmer or Anderson? It'd probably have to be more of a quantity over quality move. But I doubt the Reds have much motivation to move him right now.
  16. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) From ESPN: They sure as hell better not be done with that outfield. I'm confident they're not done (not willing to bet on it though). If the team looks like this 2 months from now around the time Spring Training starts, I'm predicting a 5th place finish (4th at best).
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Those were two bad teams trying to get better, this is a really good team who has gotten a lot better. They're obviously not guaranteed anything but they're absolutely one of, if not the favorite to win it all going into the season. True that. I'm not a Cubs hater by any means and it's interesting seeing what they're doing. All we can realistically ask for as baseball fans is meaningful games in September and I think their fans are in for a treat.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) You can win the offseason but that doesn't guarantee you'll win the WS. See the 2015 Chicago White Sox and 2015 San Diego Padres.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Why does it seem like the Sox always get former superstars past their prime? Dunn, Thome, Vizquel, Manny Ramirez, Andruw Jones, Griffey, etc. The list goes on and on. Erstad was a good ballplayer who was on the decline when we got him. Roberto Alomar too.
  20. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) mma is poo Agree. Wrestling as well.
  21. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) *3 years *CF, where he's played all of 35 career games I don't care what they say, he'll be in RF next season.
  22. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) I don't get it Steve. It's comparing 2015 stats. What's your question or input? Not the fact they're being compared just that the title makes it sound like a pay per view fight haha
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) I would have LOVED the Sox to have signed Heyward to that deal. Me too. I would have enticed him with opt outs every year though after the first four. Off year? Accept player option. Following season bounceback? Opt out and look for more money. Would have been fine with me.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) LOL just the title of this thread is hilarious. Makes it sound like some sort of throwdown....is Celebrity Death Match still around to make this happen?
  25. He can opt out after 4th or after third depending on amount of at bats. Wow that's a hell of a deal.
