QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 25, 2015 -> 12:47 AM) So we can expect all 3 these guys to be cheaper like Gordon 4-5 years 75-80 million instead of 100 million. Nah I was laughed at and made fun of yesterday at the possibility of Gordon signing for close to 70 mil. Obviously he has to sign for 5 years/100 mil because that's what's expected even though there are like 2 teams in on him and one offered around 50 mil.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 25, 2015 -> 02:40 AM) Just based off of Buckets answer that the market has been effected and slowed by Heywards contract and the inclusion of Opt outs. I believe Rosenthal or Heyman also tweeted something similar last night. I doubt Gordon would get one (or he could get one and likely not opt out) but I could definitely see Upton getting one being young still.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 25, 2015 -> 03:27 AM) It would also give the White Sox flexibility perhaps to get out of the contract after 2-3 years. The problem, though, is those types of scenarios these days almost always work to the benefit of the player...he's playing well and can get more money elsewhere in 2018 but if on the decline he can just collect guaranteed money over the remainder of the deal. That situation really left the Dodgers short of pitching with Greinke, but it also prevented disaster with Albert Belle for the Sox almost twenty years ago. That said, you still have to replace that production somehow. That said, Gordon wouldn't stick around just for the salary or paycheck if his skills greatly diminished...he would retire early like Meche or Cud dyer recently with the Mets imo. Teams can get draft pick compensation for guys who opt-out as well and you don't have to possibly pay them for their older, declining years. I think it is kind of a win-win for teams and players.

He didn't really say they should. Just kicked the idea out there and also acknowledged there would be problems in the pen. He wasn't wrong by saying it would be easier to move Robertson than LaRoche. People read too much into stuff people say.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Biggest thing to remember with raBBit, Bucket, Rock, etc is that each FA/Trade situation is highly fluid and can change on a dime. Just because they get one piece of info that doesn't exactly line up with the end product, doesn't discredit them or make them "fake" or "incorrect". I've had it happen multiple times with Bears info. This times a thousand and I tried to explain that but didn't word it well I guess.

So if they add Gordon, lineup looks something like: Eaton CF Gordon LF Abreu 1B/DH Frazier 3B Cabrera RF (for now) Lawrie 2B LaRoche (DH/1B, get him here more to improve defense) Platoon C Saladino SS

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) Not trying to knock anything but been skeptical on rabbit. Said before Sox were in serious talks with reds on catcher then Sox got navarro. Also said that the Heyman thing with sox still heavily involved in talk with Reds for Frazier was cooled off then next day Sox trade for him. And? Teams can have serious talks and have nothing happen between them. Just because they didn't get a Reds catcher doesn't mean talks weren't serious.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) That is simply absurd. Who is driving up the price? The reported KC offer was 4/52. Certainly not them.
-
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) Unfortuantely with the reports out there, that AV you suggest is not going to be enough to to sign him. If we were offering that he would just go back to the Royals, but according to Heyman AGs camp told them as of now they are out because they were offering basically the same contract you just suggested. If the money is close he'll go back to KC, the only way he leaves is if he gets more money, closer to the $20 mil/year or if he gets that 5th year. He's 32, has a world series ring, and sacrificed a few years of free agency with a cheap contract once. He's going wherever the best offer is. I don't think it'll take 9 figures. I'm thinking 4 years and around 60-70 mill.

So 1 of year of Danks for multiple years of Garza? Pass.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Upton is what 4 years younger? So, say you do a 6 year deal at $21M per. When Upton hits 32 years, he'll have 2 years left vs Gordon who would sign a similar deal at age 32 for say 4 years. The difference is the two years & that's my concern. I think he'll produce well enough for that AAV in the first few years of his deal but worries me on the last half. They could always give an opt out when Upton turns 32. Then he could look for a 4-5 year deal forfeiting his final 2-3 years of a 6-7 year deal.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) To play SS? I think Saladino can definitely outhit Ryan and also figures to be a better defender at this point... I didn't mean to start. Just as a late inning replacement wherever needed (Most likely second base).
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Simply a statement, not attributed to you. The opening day roster will/should still have some significant changes coming. Olt is brutal, not worth it for a brick glove at 3rd and the off chance that his bat runs into a fastball once a month for a HR. Ah gotcha. Yeah he shouldn't be on the roster. I saw that Brendan Ryan was released. He has always had a light bat but always a great defender. May be worth a shot for the league minimum.
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I don't want Olt anywhere near this team. No one should. Where did I say I did? This was just based off what our roster looks like now. I know we're likely to add an outfielder and a bench piece so Olt likely doesn't factor into a bench spot come opening day.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) Honestly, he might be a platoon option to pair with LaRoche. Small sample size, but he has put a 135 wRC+ against LHP over the span of several major league seasons. Yeah probably. As of right now with the current roster I have a bench of: Avila/Navarro, Sanchez, Shuck and then I guess Olt or Sands as a platoon option.

What if they dont sign one of the big OF FA?
Bob Sacamano replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't want to rely on both Avi and LaRoche (just one) along with the unknown of Saladino everyday and questionable health behind the plate. -
I know they said no once, but once the Pirates sign a mid-tier pitcher (linked to Kazmir earlier in offseason and have moved some money around since), maybe offer them the same deal again just in case they decide they have a little extra room for a defensive first first baseman who can hit in the 6 or 7 spot in that lineup.

QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 04:43 AM) I have this nagging feeling that Alex Gordon will sign for us today. Don't ask why, I just have this feeling.... If so, I don't want anything more than 4 years.
-
If he doesn't sign with us, I hope he doesn't sign with the Royals either. Hopefully a team that hasn't given up their first round pick yet so the value of our comp pick goes up.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Upton's been on the DL a grand total of 1 time in his career, in 2008. Damn. I must have been more focused on last season. Had him in fantasy and he would miss games due to nagging injuries but not go on dl. But still the strikeouts fact still stands.
-
Huh? In what world does Cespedes strike out more than Upton? Look at the numbers.

Who will be the first domino to fall of the Big Three?
Bob Sacamano replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I kind of have a feeling that Garfien is just talking out of his ass. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I believe you but that's ridiculous for a player like Gordon. Man, NFL teams have it made. They get to cut guys and those 8 year deals mean nothing. They don't have to pay up like baseball teams do. Think of all the guys the Sox would have just cut. LaRoche, Dunn, Melky, Rios. I don't think they can do it after year one. I'm pretty sure they have to at least honor half the deal.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Who cares? The sox playing second fiddle doesn't stop me from enjoying baseball This. I really don't care and don't know why people do.
