  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) It would take the type of deal that saw the Rangers take back Hamilton. This. If we took the remaining years at say $6 mill over the entirety, then maybe. But probably still no.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Assuming Donaldson breaks his trend of being awful, while Avi doesn't. Yeah. Winning the MVP award is awful. Come on Donaldson!
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Avi has an 84 wRC+ against RHP in 800 PA in his career. That's terrible. Loney's bat might not be impressive, but even his uninspiring 2015 RHP splits are still way better than Avi's career numbers against RHP. I hope the Avi experiment has a short leash. Agree. And it's not like a Loney/Avi platoon needs to be strict. You can split their time against righties, plus Melky and Austin can sit at times.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) I think what we'll see happen is Avi gets his chance and will be re-evaluated when June comes around. If Avi is struggling in June, the Sox start shopping for a LH OF bat. Until then were stuck with the Avi experiment. My hangups with Loney are based on him only being a 1B and his bat is just not impressive. If the Sox were going to carry a five player bench I would be open to the idea of Loney but they are only carrying four on the bench so versatility from the last spot becomes more important, IMHO. Ishikawa/Sands bring the versatility that Loney cannot provide. I just don't see Loney being a significant enough of an upgrade to push Ishikawa/Sands out of the picture. At this point I would rather stick with what the Sox have and see how they look in June. Versatility wise, they have 5 OF (between 3 OF spots, DH and Shuck) as of right now so another guy who can play OF isn't really necessary for the last bench spot.
  5. Loney, if released, I'd rather have at league minimum than Ishikawa. Not even really close for me.
  6. QUOTE (glangon @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 03:09 AM) The thing with Aumont is that he has impressed and given up nothing in spring and could force out someone like Putnam who could get optioned to Charlotte in favour of Aumont. Hector and May should get sent down, although the speed of May must give them pause for thought for having that late inning baserunning threat. I have this suspicion that Ishikawa is going to get the job due to him being left-handed but I would rather see Sands getting it. I like what May did this Spring. Hope he keeps it up in the minors and can be a potential replacement for Jackson in center next season with his speed and defense in the 9 spot. Sidenote: I completely forgot that we still really don't have a long term catcher.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) Travis Ishikawa Jerry Sands Jacob May Hector Sanchez Phillippe Aumont Who had that at the beginning of March? LaRoche fiasco made it realistic. I also vote Sanchez giving Navarro/Avila DH at bats along with Garcia and Melky. Sands is redundant with Garcia around (unless one platoons with Melky?) and Ishikawa isn't good.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 40m40 minutes ago Jimmy Rollins will start at shortstop Monday for the White Sox. Alex Avila slated to be opening day catcher. Avila was obvious. Righty on the mound.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 12:34 AM) What I hate even more than the Sox playing at 9:05 pm on Opening Day is the fact that there are now THREE "Opening Night" games to kick off the season. 3 games back-to-back, starting at noon on Sunday. And the marquee match-up that they always start with is the 3rd game. So the biggest game of opening night is actually the 3rd game played. That's a bummer. I always liked the build up and anticipation for that first fulfillment of baseball on the night before every else started. Nah. All day baseball on opening day is perfectly fine with me.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) I don't understand Ishikawa either, but let Davidson have some success at AAA first. Absolutely. And Davidson wouldn't get every day at bats in the majors like he can in the minors.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) So the Sox should just ignore the 1141 plate appearances Davidson has made in AAA the past 2 years where he barely hit .200 and struck out more often than Adam Dunn, and base a roster spot on the 44 plate appearances he made this spring in games that don't count. No one really can be serious, right? Send him to Charlotte. If he's worth a roster spot, he will show he's worth a roster spot. I agree. Make him earn his way onto the roster.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) You use "sick days" so you can watch baseball games when not sick? And then you post on the internet to that effect? Well I normally wouldn't. But I'm being placed into a new job through an agency soon so might as well burn my days I'll lose at this other place am I right?
  13. May be getting a new job in the next month so I'm thinking I may used my 3 paid sick days I just earned recently during the next 2 weeks.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) I wonder what the pitching matchups are going to be in the Oakland series. If I had to guess, I'd say: Sale vs. Gray Quintana vs. Hill Rodon vs. Hahn Latos vs. Graveman No one on their side is that intimidating other than Gray, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox win 3/4 or even sweep. I'm hopeful. It's looks favorable for our Sox, but I've learned not to assume anything in this game.
  15. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) Depends if they decide to take 13 pitchers He's saying if they decide to take Sands. Sands would likely be 4th bench guy depending on if there is an injury. Only other scenario I see where they take 13 pitchers and Sands is if Shuck doesn't make it.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) What are the current odds of Davidson or Sands making the team over Sanchez? Haven't been following spring training much the past couple of weeks, other than noticing that Erik Johnson "hope" all off-season turned out to be another mirage. Don't think they're taking Sanchez. I'd say Sands is more likely due to out of options and having a good spring. He would never clear waivers. I would like to see Davidson have success in triple A before seeing major league pitching.
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) If everything else is equal, the lefty should be in LF, and the righty should be in RF. Keeps the glove hand closer to the foul line, where the tougher plays are. line But that doesn't help our situation if it is assumed Melky and Eaton will be at the corners since both throw left handed.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) I still think Turner ends up starting in Charlotte. He'll clear waivers and go down. Which is better than him just being released I supoose.
  19. QUOTE (AJUribe @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) BTW boers and Bernstein suck. Yeah. Despite them being Sox fans, you wouldn't be able to tell. And before you go back and re-read this, yes the Sox are their team haha
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) How much money did they give him again? $1.5 mill. Someone will claim him or we'll release him I'm sure. That amount is nothing.
  21. For those who have seen both Melky and Eaton play right, how did they look? Who would you say should be the primary LF and primary RF on opening day?
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Is he the only one of the bevy of 25th man candidates who can play first? No. Sands can. And Frazier can as well.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Tony and Rowand44 will be delighted to know that there are literally Cubs in the field at MaddonLand. LOL I really don't get mad with all their shennanigans it just seems like so much over kill of trying to lighten the mood. Spring Training is long enough and gets stale enough for stuff like this to happen.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 06:55 AM) My prediction for the opening day roster is the same as it is in the other Opening Day Roster Prediction Thread. Lol I was like really? We need two threads for this?
  25. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) FA starting pitching doesn't look good next year. Some one will overpay Danks just for the innings he will put up and if he hovers around an ERA of 4 he will probably get 3-5 years. Agree. Look at what guys worse/just about as good as him have gotten over last few years. If he pitches decent, he may be looking at anywhere between a 3-5 year deal. May be worth extending a QO to him.
