RHP, are we set or are we missing opportunities?
Bob Sacamano replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) They signed for nothing because both are garbage. Actually Jackson signed for league minimum because he's making $13 mill this year anyway. It's not like if a team offered him more it would increase his possible earnings. It would just decease the amount the Cubs owe. -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) I think soxfan2014 thought you meant rejecting the QO. For whatever reason, correct. I yearn for this upcoming weekend lol
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) He's not going to get $150 million or more from any other team besides the Orioles IMO. Oh for some reason I read your first comment as QO...my bad lol Yeah he should accept the O's offer and run away with it.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I am just so surprised that Davis didn't accept the O's offer. He's a moron if he thinks he can get more $$$ somewhere else. Huh? He was offered 7/150 so why would he be a moron for rejecting only $15 mill guaranteed? Your comment doesn't make any sense because he can get more money.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) I know I was just adding on to your comment. I agree that the lack of LH bats is a bit overblown. Agree. Seems like more left handed hitters have big platoon splits compared to righties.
-
Blue Jays didn't have much left handed hitting and they seemed to survive...
-
Well it looks like one of the big 3 signed before with a team before we could get to 100 pages. Cespedes for the rest of us!
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Confirmed. Heyman says Gordon was looking for 20mil AAV so took a small "hometown" discount to stay with KC. It's only taking a discount if he was actually offered more money by another team.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) Couldn't disagree more. Absolutely no reason for Cespedes to sign with anyone yet. Orioles having money to spend and not bringing back Davis yet is a huge issue. I think Davis will cave and take the highest offer possible from the Orioles. Doesn't seem like there's anyone in on him.
-
Chris Davis signing with Baltimore would make things fall into place pretty well for us (unless more teams jumped in).
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) There is nothing good about Gordon going back to K.C. Reduces the supply of impact OFs, doesn't impact the demand for them (if you assume the Royals were all or nothing on Alex), & makes a key divisional competitor stronger. If Upton is a long-shot, then the Sox can't keep dicking around on Cespedes. I also would have liked Gordon going to a team that didn't already give up its first round pick as well increasing our comp pick.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) I thought the Giants were out after they signed Leake. You mean Cueto I think.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 10:23 PM) I think the Sox farm ranks in tat 25-30 range and if they want to compete while simultaneously building for long term sucess, then that has to improve. Keeping their comp pick would help that cause. Yep....so sign Cespedes already!
-
Yeah seriously. Avi SHOULD be there.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) What? Yearly hitting min-camp that yields great results every season.
-
Oh boy.
-
I could dig a one year deal. He probably won't be looking for more. And with a weak pitching market he could look to cash in. Plus if he pitches well, we could offer a QO.
-
The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I would be surprised if the Sox aren't one of those teams. Groundball pitcher who has good control, sign me up. Bummer on missing on Edwin Jackson. Sounds like we could've had him at the league minimum since the Cubs are paying him around $13 million I think? Yeah Marlins only owe him league minimum. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) This week, things should start picking up again. The only thing is Wednesday, usually the Sox big announcement day is probably a no no this week with the HOF announcement. Probably very little negotiating going on since right before Christmas. If teams sign a big name, they want to make a big deal out of it. Signing someone during the holiday season probably ruins any chance at a big press conference and cuts down the publicity of the deal, nevermind all the agents, players and front office people have families, and most have obligations during this time. I'd be surprised if we went another week without one of these guys signing. Agree these guys are going to hold out for best possible deal. I wouldn't be shocked if they were still unsigned 2 weeks from now.

In my opinion I'd say our situation is worse with LaRoche since we are trying to compete while worst case scenario for them is they keep them on the bench for one year. They aren't winning or losing their division despite having them or not having them. Plus taking them on for a year helped them get rid of Chris Johnson's 2 remaining seasons. And combined they make $29 mil this year with the Indians paying 10 of that so only 19 mill. I think they will end up eating some money and moving Bourn while just eating Swisher's remaining one year (what they did with Quentin) or just keeping him on the bench.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 09:02 PM) This thread has been so quiet and slow lately. There's nothing to talk about and it's a holiday weekend so posters are doing other stuff with their lives.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) The question i have is say the Sox sign Desmond to a 1 yr deal would he be eligible to be a qualifying offer free agent again next year if he performs well. really can't find the rules stating what is the requirements. Other idea tho is sign him to a 2 year deal with a opt out after 1st year then I believe for sure can qualify for offer. If you look at kazmirs deal it's for 3 years but can opt out after the first year and I'm pretty sure one of the baseball guys said he can get a qualifying offer again. There are no requirements. They could offer him one as long as he stays on team for the year.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Jones is signed through the '18 season. 2016 30 Baltimore Orioles $16,333,333 8.139 2017 31 Baltimore Orioles $16,333,333 2018 32 Baltimore Orioles $17,333,333 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts Ah 32 year old free agent. Just like McCutchen who I believe is in that same class. That class is loaded.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Does Avi Garcia have a option to go to minors 2016? Yes.
-
How long is Adam Jones signed for? If I was an O's fan I wouldn't want money tied into someone like Davis and would rather re-sign Jones when the time comes.
