  1. Can anyone else envision Upton getting a 4 year deal with an opt out after sat year 2?
  2. Dammit Davis just sign and take your money from the O's already so the rest of the other pieces can start falling into place.
  3. I have a feeling the Nats are more likely to go with Austin Jackson as they wouldn't have to move Harper or Werth to center. Signing Jackson also does not prevent them from extending Harper later (though I think K they're supposed to have a big TV deal coming soon too).
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) It seems obvious to me the hold up is Cespedes and Upton want to see what Baltimore does with the pile of money it offered Davis. If one of those guys signs there, Boras will be left trying to save face. I don't see another team offering $150 million for Davis, so how he may do this is a one year contract higher than the AAV he turned down. He has played RF and LF, maybe not so well, but throw $25 million at him for 1 season to see what he could do. It would be a huge gamble, but he would be playing for a contract, and USCF does play well into Davis' offensive game. If he hits 40 or 50 homers, he would wind up paying for himself in spades. Yeah Davis is definitely the hold up.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) Ian Kennedy to the Royals would give the White Sox a higher draft pick. So that helps. Yes sir. We need as many of the QO free agents to sign with teams that haven't given up their first round pick yet as well as the Padres (likely landing spot for Desmond).
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) One more note, the Sox still have two open spots on the 40 man roster FWIW. Not worth anything really but nice note I guess.
  7. I hope there is an announcement of Davis signing with the Orioles today.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) Mutual options mean nothing. This x1000
  9. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:24 PM) Damn, was it Lou's or Giardonios? My sources say it was Gino's East.
  10. I'm not worried about this yet. Until these guys sign with other teams I still have a little hope.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) I would say none of them. I really don't understand this one other than OF depth at Charlotte. Maybe it means they are going to trade a guy like Shuck or something, but that wouldn't exactly be a blockbuster, and I would think they would be pretty happy with Shuck. What would be your bench with the current team? Navarro/Avila C Sanchez 2B/SS (can still make a ton of starts if he gets at bats from LaRoche while Frazier or Lawrie get some DH at bats) Shuck OF And then another infielder? Garcia or a minor league signing? Or say screw the 4th spot and go 8th reliever? Actually thinking about it, they play what 7-8 games in a row to open the season? They could break camp with a crowded bullpen and send a guy down when they need another position player.
  12. So between him, Sands and Olt, who would be most likely to be the 25th man? Or does anyone think as of now, Sanchez is the platoon guy with LaRoche (keeping Frazier at third or moving Lawrie to third with other DHing)? Obviously I know they aren't done with the starting lineup or bench but it's a hypothetical season starts tomorrow scenario.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Jackson definitely is the best buy low guy right now...as Parra, Span and Fowler go up in price incrementally from Jackson's expected $7.5-9 million range. Yeah I'm not opposed at all to Austin Jackson but if we're possibly in on the other guys, then might as well wait on them first.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) If the Sox are going to wait as Merkin suggests, then I hope they go ahead and grab Jackson ASAP. Why would they do it ASAP? Why not wait until the other guys are signed.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) This is promising news. It's not really news. He just has the same ideas a lot of people on here think as well. It's true that they never are straight forward to the media out about anything really. I could have tweeted that myself.
  16. The real question is will this thread get to 150 pages before the next of the big 3 signs somewhere? My vote is yes.
  17. I remember seeing an article on mlbtr where it was suggested the Braves could move him and a top prospect in order to clear his salary though I don't see why they'd be in a hurry to do so. That signing never made sense since they basically tore it all down after. They could have just signed Aoki. Unless they wanted his work ethic and personality in the clubhouse around all the young players.
  18. There should be a "Pre-16" stage too where you idolize these players and put them above all else. But when you get older you realize they are just regular people too (only really good at something we used to play as kids).
  19. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) Whelp my prediction we'd sign Cespedes is off. Damn those "sources" lol What was your prediction?
  20. Voters only get ten votes right? Then the 3 people who didn't vote him figured he'd likely get voted in anyway and spread their votes out to other players.
  21. QUOTE (shoeless_joe21 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:31 PM) He meant running from LaRoche. Lmao
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Well, the Brewers just signed Chris Carter, so that takes them out of the running for LaRoche (not that they were ever even interested in him in the first place, but some people on here were discussing a possible deal). I don't think there is a "running" for LaRoche. No one wants him.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) The white sox were 14th in the AL in OBP last year and 15th in HR. They needed improvements in both, and they added an improvement in 1 of them so far, with 2 guys who can hit HR but do a weak job of getting on base. They are upgrades in on base over last year because the positions were so bad, but as of right now, this lineup is still near the bottom of the AL in getting on base. Let's take care of both and sign Upton then
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 03:49 PM) Doesn't the CBA expire after this season? Or maybe its 2017. Anyway, when it's done, the first change will be the end of the QO tie to free agency (although they could keep the "gain a draft pick" part; but they'll for sure end the "lose the draft pick" side). What do you think will happen then? The team just gains a draft pick and no team risks losing one when signing a guy?
