  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) i am just trying to think about this, can this move be a minor league move, to help in the minors???? i am just trying to figure this one out. Ishikawa signing? Mostly because Charlotte needs to field a team too.
  2. Ike Davis signed with the Rangers on a minor league deal. Woulda been more interested in him on a minor league deal instead of Ishikawa but oh well.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) i don't know the rules on this one, can the sox, if latos does rebound, offer his a QO next yr??? Yes they can.
  4. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Is Melky on strike 3? Or has he only been caught once? I think it's once. Will check later when I get home from work but I'm sure someone else will post before then.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 06:59 AM) The problem with your argument is Desmond is not a below average defensive player. He's been pretty much average and when combined with his bat it's made him a top 5 SS prior to last season. Unless you believe his one bad half in the last four seasons, which happened to occur last year, is predictive of the player you'd be getting, signing Desmond to a reasonable contract could be the streal of the offseason. And no offense, but the Markakis idea is terrible. He is a bad defender with no power, who is being paid a lot of money. Yes we need more OBP, but he's the absolutely wrong guy to get. Agree. What do you think a contract will be? I expect any contract to include an opt out after this season.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) Is the LH/RH thing that big of a deal? For one, we were absolutely atrocious against LHP last year, and I don't see the Blue Jays and Tigers' lack of LH hitters as a big problem. It is overblown. You don't see many righties with extreme splits against righties as lefties do against lefties.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Possibilities: Cardinals, Nationals, Indians, Angels Can't see any of those teams actually needing him to play short (which is what my post said). Unless it was reported they were. Cardinals: Peralta (won't move to third due to Carpenter) Nationals: Drew/Espinoza holding down the fort until Turner comes up. Indians: Lindor (maybe play Desmond at third? Doubt they will get involved). Angels: Simmons
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) Wonder who the other 5 teams are that expressed interest. Rays and ? Lol seriously. I can only think of one team that could use him off the top of my head: White Sox. (At short stop any way)
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) There is zero chance it was a players association idea. Yep. Silly question.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) He'd have to wait until next signing period to sign with Padres I believe. Yep. I can't see why he would wait honestly.
  11. QUOTE (Coach @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) Ozzie is managing the Venzuela team. Does anyone think this is a move to get him back on the Sox when Ventura is fired/contract not renewed at the end of this season? No.
  12. I've decided I'm ok giving up the comp pick. If we sign Fowler and still aren't good, we should have a group of desirable players to move over the next few years that should bring in talent if things go south.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) Wait wha? Alvarez in OF or Davis moved to OF? Or Trumbo back to OF.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) Orioles are in a pretty s***ty state as an org. If I were their GM, I would have started rebuilding. Wieters took the QO, but they if they didn't sign Davis they would have had 2 comp picks instead of one. Now it's looking like they may sacrifice their first round pick along with the Chen pick (if they were to sign Gallardo and Fowler)
  15. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) Interested to hear how people would stack up the pitching staff if the season started today. Obviously things could happen in the meantime, but think I would run out the following: SP Sale SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Latos SP Johnson CL Robertson SU Jones SU Duke RP Albers RP Putnam RP Petricka RP Danks We still have Jennings too. It'd be cool if we could trade a reliever for a young controllable player.
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Either OF or Desmond at SS. Still some good names out there in the FA market. You said "starting" and that makes it sound like you're talking pitching. My mistake. But yes there are some position players out there who would help.
  17. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Is anyone else a little worried that the Sox are done making impact moves? I'm starting to think this may have been it in terms of starters. Who else would you expect them to add starting wise?
  18. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Curious if this actually means anything or not. It doesn't.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) Or he really wanted to go somewhere that would promise him a starting spot? Yep. To help out his next potential contract.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) Don't forget Cespedes, too. They tried
  21. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I read that too, but read like 10 comments and it's pretty quickly disputed. Also, the Dirty isn't very credible in my eyes. They even say anybody can screenshot anything they'd like. To me, in the world of the internet we can all judge his character. But if it's just cheating, that's his own choice. It has nothing to do with him as a baseball player. I learned many years ago to separate the two. I'm not 7 years old looking up to these guys as heroes. Most all are scumbags, or in the least not capable of being faithful. To each their own. I don't have tens of millions of dollars and women throwing themselves at me. Who am I to judge. Win games. Prepare to win games. Play with passion. Be mad if you lose. That's all I ask. Wasn't it Josh Fields who retired briefly due to how the players on our team behaved off the field (cheating etc) and it made him uncomfortable?
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Actually, in the risk/reward spectrum, risk is total value of what can be lost. So in this case, it is nearly 100% made up of price (though one could argue he might cause bad blood in the clubhouse as a side effect, which is a risk). Daniel Fields, Jerry Sands, Mike Olt, Matt Davidson, Brandon Brennan and one of Kevan Smith or Rob Brantly are all good DFA candidates that likely pass through waivers successfully anyway. Yep. 40 man being full isn't a big deal.
  23. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Risk is about how much something cost either in money or anything else it is not about the odds. A lottery ticket is low risk/high reward, because the only risk you are taking is not having a dollar to thrown in a tip jar at the bar that night while the possible reward is huge. Just because the odds are not good do not make it high risk. This is how I'm looking at it. No one really plays the lotto expecting to win. But I guess everyone will have their own opinion on what it means.
